Such a light and easy book to read.
Lesley Pearse is Britains answer to Danielle Steele.
There are a lot of characters in this book and none of them have any depth to them.
I will always read Lesley’s books, but they’re holiday reads as opposed to a good novel.

After the funeral of her mother, Sally, Alice Kent is approached by a man named Angus Tweedy. He claims to be her father and tells her that he served time in prison for marrying Sally bigamously.
What does he hope to gain by telling her this now, thirty years on? How can her adored dad Ralph not be her true father? And why did her mother betray her so badly?
She had accepted Sally's many faults, and her reluctance to ever speak of the past. But faced with this staggering deception, Alice knows she must uncover the whole truth about her mother. Whatever the cost.
As Alice journeys into the past she discovers her mother may never have been the woman she claimed to be…..

Thank you for this advanced copy which was a great read, I had trouble putting this down! I liked the way it was written and it made for an easy read. I would definitely recommend and look forward to reading another book by this fabulous author!

CW: Child abuse and sexual assault

At her mothers funeral Alice Kent notices a stranger, someone her family don’t recognise. After approaching him he wants to meet the next day to talk about how he knew her mother Sally. When she meets him he tells her he’s her (and her sisters) father. This revelation leads her to question how much she really knew about her mother.

This was a really unusual story, I wasn’t sure what to expect. It tells the story through Alice and her mother, the history of who was at times upsetting.

It’s the second book by the author I’ve read, and far superior. I read it in a day, it was such a different story to anything I’ve read, I couldn’t put it down.

Janet, Fleur, Sally? Who is this woman. Gripping from first to last word. How did Janet escape a terrible childhood and lead an extraordinary life.

A fantastic read. When Alice's mum dies she discovers something that will impact on her life so much that she decides to find out what she can about her mother's life before she married her father. It's a great story with lots of secrets which holds your interest from the beginning. A great mix of characters and the ending is perfect. Lesley Pearse at her best .Highly recommended

I have mixed feelings about ‘Deception’ having read all of Lesley Pearses books I do favour those which are set in the late 1800s early 1900s however Lesley does have a fantastic way of writing which keeps you guessing and it flows so well, she has a great gift & I’m a huge fan.

Deception tells the story of Sally who has recently died, her daughter Alice meets a mysterious man at her funeral which leads to the unravelling of who her Mum really was… I liked the dual time line and the way it slowly became clear as to why Sally had made the choices she did.

This book takes you on a journey, I disliked Sally at the beginning and throughout the first half of the story, however by the time I was reading this last few pages I understood the majority of her decision making & had some empathy for her.

Love, loss, lies, betrayal it’s all covered in this story and covered well,

Thank you to Penguin Random House for the invitation to read and review this book.

I always look forward to a new book by Lesley Pearse and this one doesn’t disappoint.

A surprising announcement has Alice Kent delving into her mother Sally’s past. Sally was always secretive, so what was she hiding? As Alice uncovers the truth about her mother she is shocked to discover what kind of life she led and how it made her the woman she became.

Another excellent book by this author. A story of secrets and lies which made for an engrossing read.

Lesley Pearce has done it again with her latest book Deception. When Alice's mum Sally dies a strange man attends the funeral and tells Alice something that will change what she knows for good.

As the story progresses we watch Alice as she uncovers her mothers secrets and lies while simultaneously going back to Sally's timeliness and see how things develop.

I read this on the eve of my own fathers funeral so I spent the time thinking about my own dad and what secrets may lurk in his past. This just reinforced how believable the story and the characters are.

I loved how things developed, adding each new layer at the perfect time, sometimes a secret is revealed first in Alice's investigation and other times we learn about a deception in Sally's own timeline. At was all joyously unpredictable with lots of twists and shocks throughout.

Loved this book. Definitely a must read.

Once again Lesley has come up with a brilliant story which although is life changing for the character Alice , could be totally believable .
I love the way she manages to intertwine her characters and the story they find themselves within.
Couldn't put the book down , and as with her other books felt bereft when it had finished
