The Ohana Cottage is such a good choice for your day at the beach. The perfect rom-com that makes you happy inside, and feeling the sunshine on your skin. Mia, an outgoing recently single decides to take a solo trip to Hawaii to figure out her head after a breakup. John, her AirBnB owner is a quiet man, facing his own demons in his life. Both aren't looking for any kind of romance, but somehow continue to get drawn in together. The only thing stopping them is Jon's past which is full of darkness and anger. Somehow, he has to push through and try to keep her before she moves on.

I loved that Mia is from Minnesota, as I’m a MN girl myself. It’s always fun to get that same state connection with a character. I did feel like the geography part of Hawaii was liking. It didn’t feel like Hawaii from the description and felt it could have been more detailed, even just talking about a palm tree or two it would help. I also was not super into the military aspect of Jon’s life. Being a part of a military background, some of the events in this book wouldn’t be 100% in real life.

All in all though, I’d recommend The Ohana Cottage to any person who is looking for a light hearted rom-com to spend the afternoon with.

Cute and quick romance that you can pick up anytime when your brain doesn’t feel like to read heavy book.

Sadly this book didn’t work out for me. The main characters relationship happened so fast, i didn’t find the connection, i felt like they were highly underdeveloped. The story was predictable, Mia cries in the end bothered me a lot.

John back story was the only thing I find interesting, but by the end I really lost all my interest. And I feel bad, because I wanted to love it.

Thank you for the copy!

It’s a (modern) age old story. Woman flees her old life, traveling to a new, sometimes exotic, place to find (or center) herself in her life. In The Ohana Cottage, Mia is no different. After breaking up with her boyfriend of four years, Mia decides she needs a change at the ripe old age of…23. She takes off from Minnesota and lands herself in Hawaii ready to uncover who she wants to be.

Unfortunately, this book was one I did not finish. The main characters were both very flat, and the writing style wasn’t one that I enjoyed. The author does a lot of telling rather than showing which can be hard to read. I think the idea is cute, but didn’t receive the best execution.

Honestly, this book surprised me. I love forced prox books, but this one wasn’t as light and fluffy as I thought it would be. No complaints, just not what I expected.

I enjoyed the double narrative, especially Johns POV. I loved reading what he *wanted* to say and then seeing how he actually responded. And then how that effected Mia.

The Ohana Cottage is a short, sweet and simple novel about two opposites that are attracted to each other.

Cheerful and positive minded Mia decides to rent an Airbnb in Hawaii after a break-up with her boyfriend. Here she meets John, the owner of the cottage. You can immediately tell that the two have some chemistry. John, the broody, quiet, ex-army guy and the chirpy, social Mia. Opposites attract, am I right?

I really liked the setting of the book. How can you not like Hawaii, beaches and sun? I know I'm a fan! The book was fun to read and a great book if you're in the mood for something light and easy.

I did struggle with the writing though. It wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great. The story is written in the main characters' POV, but I felt like their inner monologues were overexplanatory.

Overall, a fun and easy to read book. I think this would be a great book if you're in a reading slump or looking for a light read.

"The Ohana Cottage" is a new adult romance following Mia and John. The book had quite short chapters and is easy to read, as well as the book not being to long.

The book follows Mia, who decides to go on vacation to Hawaii after her breakup with her ex. There, she rents a cottage from a mysterious guy named John. John is tall and handsome, but tends to avoid socialising, unlike Mia. However, it becomes clear quite quickly that John has built up walls around himself to keep people away. But what is it that's going through his head and keeping him stuck in place?

This book was a nice read. I really liked Mia and John's dynamic. They had really good chemestry and it was really nice to see them develop and slowly open up to eachother more and more. I also liked that the romance wasn't the only main focus in this story, but also the trauma that John has from both loosing his parents and the things he experienced being in the military. You definately feel for these characters and you just want them to be happy. They were both very developed characters and it really complimented eachother.

It was so easy to feel for and to like these characters, and the story was really good too. I would definitely recommend this book, especially if you like these types of stories.

HOWEVER, I would just like to emphasise that this story brings up a lot of trauma from serving in the military, and even have some flashbacks, so just be aware when you start reading.

The Ohana Cottage is a cute, clean, and bingeable romance that would make a fantastic beach read!
Mia’s relationship status with her long-term boyfriend is off again, so she travels to Hawaii to try and gain some space and perspective. John is home from the military and struggling with PTSD. Mia rents John’s Airbnb and their story unfolds.
Overall, this book was sweet and I enjoyed the idea of falling in love with a Hawaiian backdrop, but I wish it dug a little deeper. It felt like there was a lot of description of the day to day, and not enough to let us really get to know the characters or became super invested in their outcome. I was interested in John’s struggle to reconnect with society after his time in Iraq and I wish his growth was explored more.
I am a definite fan of romances with dual POVs and I love the grumpy/sunshine and fake dating tropes, so I sailed through this book regardless and would recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, easy to read romance. It looks like it’s a series and I am hoping the next one is about Paige and Matt…
Thank you to NetGalley and Megan Reinking for the advanced electronic copy in exchange for my honest review!

The Ohana Cottage by Megan Reinking

This was a sweet debut novel! I enjoyed it! I do wish that there was a bit more drama and sometimes I felt like John and Mia’s relationship was hard to believe. They barely knew each other and things just kind of felt surface level despite John’s Iraq history. I just never had the heart tugging, teary eyed reaction that I normally do in romance novels. It was a pretty face paced read which was nice and I loved the vivid description of Hawaii. I absolutely loved Mia’s patience & support of John and his PTSD from his days in Iraq and I love that John got his redemption story.

The Ohana Cottage was an adorable read by Meghan Reinking! I am rating this book a 3/5 stars! I was drawn to requesting this book on NetGalley because of the cover! It looked like the perfect summer read and I was not disappointed!

Mia who just went through a break up with her longtime boyfriend decides to take a vacation to Hawaii where she rents an Airbnb called The Ohana Cottage! It is there where she meets reserved John who is an army veteran trying to readjust to normal life after Iraq. The two are drawn together by Mia’s addictive personality and her ability to make John feel better for a while!

Overall it was a really quick read and was pretty straightforward. It even had some fun tropes like fake dating! I gave the book 3 stars because there wasn’t a lot of substance to it but it was still really enjoyable! It was a fun heartwarming romance and though it wasn’t really deep I found myself learning a lot about how it’s important to focus on fixing yourself before you’re truly ready to be with someone else.

This book was a little different than what I normally read, it was fade to black which is totally fine! I think I struggled the most with relating to the characters because I didn’t see a lot of myself in them which is probably why I found that it didn’t dig really deep.

I think this is the perfect sitting out by the water summer read! I will be recommending this book this summer! I definitely can’t wait to read more of Meghan Reinking’s writing! As a debut novel I think she knocked it out of the park!

Cute concept, needs a lot of refinement. The characters felt unnatural and stilted, especial the dialogue. The writing needed to show more, rather than just tell the reader things about the plot/characters.

Thank you NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for an honest review!

This was such an easy read! It was also really short so it made for a quick read. It was nice seeing Mia and John go from strangers to friends to lovers.

It was also nice to see Mia and John navigate their place in the world and dealing with PTSD as their friendship and relationship blossomed.

There were parts in this book that did seem a little repetitive and slow for me while other parts like Mia and John going from friends to starting a relationship that felt a little rushed.

Also I felt the conflict that occurred 70% in was just added in order for there to be a conflict. It didn’t really add anything to the story for me. Overall, this was a cute book!

A great short read. Opposites attract.
Mia heads to Hawaii after a break up back home. She meets John, the owner of the property she is renting. He keeps himself to himself and doesn't seem to want to interact at first. Soon they get to know each other, so what will happen when it is time for her to return home?

The Ohana Cottage : 4/5⭐️

Mia is fresh out of a long-term relationship and takes herself to Hawaii to put some space between her ex and her future. When Mia rents the Ohana cottage she has no idea that former Army man, John, lives next door in the main house. Not to mention that he’s exactly her type.

This novel is a contemporary romance, new-adult fiction with some of my favorite tropes. Some grumpy and sunshine, a dash of fake dating, and a whole lot of vacation romance and angst.

This book is written in dual POVs (which is honestly superior for romance novels) and does a great job of diving into the character’s personal journeys beyond their romantic escapade. Megan Reinking has such potential to break into the contemporary romance realm, and I am so grateful to have been able to receive an Advanced Reader’s Copy.

This book also navigates some potentially triggering themes surrounding PTSD and wartime. I haven’t found many books that adequately and meaningfully talk about these important issues, so I was thrilled that Reinking incorporated this storyline. I would definitely read more of her writing, and would recommend The Ohana Cottage to any 20-something navigating love and adulting!

Really loved the premise and overall plot of the book! I think it was a fun and exciting adventure to go on. I do think there could be further edits just in fleshing out the characters more. I wanted to know more about the thoughts of Mia and John — there seemed to be a lot of dialogue and less internal communication and some scenes seemed to just be John or Mia doing a chore and nothing that added to the plot. Talks with her ex would have been interesting and I think maybe adding more situations that challenged John and Mia would have been good. I really liked the story and the basis, but I think it could be stronger in structure and character development.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought that it was a good romance that was light-hearted and easy to read. I loved the representation of PTSD in the book and how the character deals with it, as well as how it affects the characters relationship. There were some parts in the book that were a little cheesy, but overall the book made me smile and it was super cute!
