At the end of The Scandalous Vixen, there already was a hint to the attraction between Pippa Lady Philippa) and Xander Macauley. So, when I saw The Wicked wallflower on Netgalley I knew I wanted to read this one. Pippa is Roan’s younger sister and Xander is his business companion and best friend. For Xander, Pippa is out of reach: she is his best friend’s younger sister, who is ten years his minor. And furthermore: ever since Roan became a duke, his sister shouldn’t marry some thug from the streets. She should marry someone with a title. Pippa feels trapped. Trapped as the sister-of-a-duke. Trapped as a woman. And trapped as the little sister. She hates that she is not able to make a difference, because she is supposed to paint and choose new gowns at the modiste. To be paraded before silly guys who would want to marry her. So, she decided to be uninteresting for them, by acting like a gray mouse, a wallflower. But in the meantime, she sneaks out of the house at night to deliver food to orphans or to unmask unruly dukes before they marry a helpless chit.

Xander shouldn’t care if Pippa got herself into trouble or not. She’s Roan’s charge and not his problem. But Roan and Helena are expecting a new babe, so Xander decides to step up and make sure that Pippa’s ‘adventures’ don’t get out of hand.

Both Xander and Pippa feel the mutual attraction. But they both know that there is no future for them. So they are both frustrated, because they don’t want to want each other. But they do. And whilst going on adventures together, they learn that they are not so different after all.

Both too stubborn for their own good, they both refuse to acknowledge their feelings. However, when found in a compromising situation, they may need to act….

A wonderful story! Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc. And hopefully we can read Theo’s story soon!

This is by far my favorite. The two characters, Pippa & Mac, mac goes through an areay of women wanting to stay away from Pippa, she is his bestfriends sister. They dance around one another. amazing. A little dull at times but entertaining.

Typical historical romance with brooding hero and feisty heroine. The use ,constantly of the words innit and cor, presumably to try for authenticity, ring false.

Philippa Darlington has vowed that she will never marry. To ensure this she plays the role of a wallflower. Xander Macauley is a self-made man and he has a secret. His secret is that he is attracted to his friend's sister, so she is off-limits. However, when they are forced together feelings between the two begin to develop.

This was an ok read for me. I found it took me a while to get into this story. The start of the story moves quite slowly. The characters were ok but I didn't feel invested in their romance despite this book having a number of tropes that I really love. I haven't read the previous books in the series so I didn't get some of the references to previous characters.

Overall this was an ok read for me but I didn't find the romance or characters to be very memorable.

I have been excited for this couple for so long, and now that I have finally read their story, I am feeling both satisfied at a happy conclusion for them and dismayed that I can never read it again for the first time. The buildup for this couple in the last book was done so well, but even if you haven't read any of the other books, I think you can still appreciate this one. We're given enough backstory and relationship building that you can feel their love for each other, even when they bicker and fight against it. It's a funny sort of enemies to lovers, with pining thrown in, and a hint of nursing back to health at one point. What I loved the most was how we saw the hero grow from this lost, rakish man who had a heart made of stone and money to the man who cared about his family and loved with every fiber of his being. Also the groveling...the groveling was impeccable.

Lady Pippa Darlington has no intention of going quietly into society, finding a boring yet perfectly respectable husband, and living the rest of her life with the sole purpose of being a dutiful, baby-making wife. She wants so much more for herself, to have a purpose, to show the value she can add to others' lives. While helping the Duchess Society, a group of matchmaking women of nobility, vet a prospective suitor, she finds herself in the middle of trouble...with Xander Macaulay waiting beside herself her to haul her away to safety. Xander is gaming hell owner with no interest in marriage or love. All he wants is to run a successful business, support his friends, and provide a life for those he cares about. There is no room in his life for a high-born lady like Pippa, no matter how much she makes his pulse race or his pants tighten. He'll stick to his casual dalliances, thank you very much. But Pippa is determined to make Xander see that she is perfect for him. Even if she must force her way into his life to get him to see the truth.

Pippa is the kind of woman I think we'd all enjoy having as a friend. Strong, witty, with good humor and a compassionate heart, she is someone who genuinely wants to do good for others. Sure, she is also impulsive, prone to putting herself in dangerous situations, and she is utterly besotted with a man who is clearly unsuitable in many, many ways. However, there is a level of attraction I find in how self-assured she was in her own skin throughout the story. Even when called out for her faults, she owned them and was able to still do what she wanted in spite of barriers put in her way. In most romances, you see the man chasing the woman, but that was totally flipped in this book. Pippa had to chase Xander practically to the altar. Wear down his defenses, worm her way into his heart until he had no choice but to admit defeat. His character development was so refreshing too, especially in the way that his switch from keeping her away to pulling her close happened gradually. You could see each inch that Pippa gained in getting closer to him, not just in their increasing levels of intimacy, but also in how much more vulnerable Xander became over time. He also recognized when he messed up, several times in the story, and I thought he was quite good at soothing ruffled feathers. It took him a bit to get it right, but oh, once he got it right, it was magnificent.

I was really hoping we would get Pippa's sister, Theo, next, but instead we'll get a different couple introduced in this story. But fear note, fellow Theo lovers, her book is coming after that!

I took me a while to read (I am not used to historical romance) but I do enjoy movies like pride and prejudice and sense and sensibility (also the books) and I can firmly say this one was very entertaining.

I, sadly, have to read the two previous installments of this series but this book was enjoyable nonetheless. If you are like a slow burn and a witty, plus, entertaining story THIS IS THE ONE BOOK for you

I cannot wait to read the two previous books and come back and re-read this one, I will be sure to enjoy it even more.

Philippa was such a great main character and I really loved her a lot.

Great romance as Macauley has feelings for his best friend’s sister. No one else sees Pippa’s frustration with her boring love and her need to make a difference and to help and have a purpose. Pippa is enjoyable, a real character who is portrayed as someone who wants to change life for those who have nothing and yet who is thwarted by the society she is living in. Macauley is from the wrong side of the blanket and has money but no title and no entree to the finest society. Macauley is also a loveable character and we see him battle his emotions, suffer his pains and fight to try and not fall for Pippa and then to not lose her.

3.5-4 Stars! This is the 3rd book in ‘The Duchess Society’ series and can be read for the most part, as a standalone. You might not know who some of the secondary characters are but the main characters’ story is start to finish. Lady Philippa/Pippa Darlington and Xander Macaulay are the main characters and come from opposite sides of the social ladder. She is a Dukes sister while he is a self made wealthy man that came from the slums of London. I do wish there was more as to why he kept pushing her away. Social differences and he has enemies/lives in a dangerous area? That’s it? I mean, I know men can be a bit slow and overprotective at times but this was practically at a full stop. The book was a bit slow at the beginning but picked up towards the last quarter. All in all an enjoyable read with a cute HEA ending.

Lady Philippa Darlington has been in love Xander Macauley, her brother’s best friend, since she first met him at a house party that her brother hosted. Xander Macauley is a earl's bastard who thinks he's too old for Philippa, a rogue and not right for her.. Xander has built an empire from nothing. He's partners with Tobias and Roan from two other books in this series which i've read and love them. i can't wait to read the rest of them I just reviewed The Wicked Wallflower by Tracy Sumner. #TheWickedWallflower #NetGalley

I have loved Tracy Sumner's Duchess Society series and would highly recommend reading the previous books in this series prior to this. I had to go back and re-read my reviews for the previous books to remember what had happened because I was confused when I started this book. The love affair between Lady Phillipa Darlington (aka "Pippa" or "Little Darlington" according to Xander) and Xander Macauley was highly anticipated for me after the previous book. All of the couples in this series have amazing banter and chemistry and this book brings all of it.

Pippa and Macauley have so much chemistry between them that has been built up from their denial of attraction to each other in previous novels. They sizzle every time they're in the room together but continue to fight their feelings for each other due to a multitude of reasons. Macauley thinks he's too old for Little Darlington, too below her, and of course, doesn't want to involve himself with her since she's the little sister of his best friend. Pippa doesn't want to be attracted to him, thinking he sees her as the annoying little sister of his best friend and that she's wrong to be attracted to someone so improper and forbidden.

Thank you to Netgalley, Tracy Sumner, and WOLF Publishing for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All of the above opinions are of my own.

An unconventional lady of the ton and an untitled businessman need to risk something in order to gain everything. Its definitely an unforgettable story and it just gets more beautiful and moving as it goes on until it reaches its conclusion which is a perfect ending. I absolutely loved it.

"The Wicked Wallflower" is aptly titled. Philippa 'Pippa' Darlington is quite the handful. Xander Macauley is just the man to handle her. From the first time he laid eyes on her, he was a goner...although he didn't want to be. Yet his is the nature of a protector, and even when he berates himself for caring, he does anyway. It was quite fun watching the relationship between them blossom, particularly the passion. That was off the charts hot!! But there were 2 secondary characters that equally got my attention, and I eagerly await their stories. I enjoyed this book so much that I took a while to read it, as I didn't want it to finish. I definitely recommend this book, as well as the others in the series.
Thanks to NetGalley, Tracy Sumner, and Wolf Publishing for this arc, which I voluntarily read and reviewed.

The Wicked Wallflower is a continuation of this series.  You don't however have to read the series to know whats going on with the characters.  However it will help you to know the other characters. McCauley is known for: swearing off women, gambling, and smuggling.  He would never be fit for a Dukes sister. Pippa is the Dukes sister she just want to be free and run her life as she sees fit.  Therefore she will NEVER get married. This fast paced book has a few surprises of its own.   Entertaining and hard to put down.  There are a few scenes I skipped over (as that is what I normally do),  they do not add or take away from the plot as I was fine without reading them.  I enjoyed the novelty of the plot and characters.  The rest of the books are just as good.  I recieved a free copy so that I might tell you what I honestly think. Hope you enjoyed my review. Now go enjoy the book.

This was a lovely story about Pippa and Xander. I feel like I missed a bit of the backstory by not reading books #1 & 2, but that’s something I hope I can easily rectify through my public library. Good pacing, and just enough inclusion of Oliver to make him an obvious hero for the next book. I enjoyed this quite a bit!

Philippa “Pippa” darlington is 22 and wants to live her life the way she wants to live it. She has a propensity to find her self in trouble verging on scandalous and this is what Sandra McAuley finds irritating in at the same time so irresistible about her. He is 32 years old born to a common mother and the noble father, he thinks he is too old for Pippa not to mention Duke Rome Darlington, Is her older brother and his best friend. She had a crush on him at Tormey, but now she is in love if only she could get him to talk to her brother all would be well, but she has other tricks up her sleeve. I love Tracy Sumner books and usually only read the western books she writes, But when I saw these books I couldn’t resist. A good storyteller will tell a good story no matter what genre right? Yes exactly these books are awesome I love that these characters have dimensions and problems of the Roowne not to mention the subplot and all the characters that all come together in the end to make an awesome story. I can’t wait to read more by this author and I gave this five stars in the deserves each one. I was given this book by Ned Gally and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Please forgive any grammatical or punctuation errors I am blind and dictate my review but all opinions are definitely my own.

No matter how old I get, I'll always have a soft spot for regency-type romances, with their garish covers and bare-chested men. This is the first book I've read from this author, but not the last!

A feisty, strong heroine enchants a wicked (but lovable) bad boy. There is deflowering (of course) as well as skinny-dipping in the Serpentine. Pippa and her family (the Leighton Cluster) are a lot of fun and full of surprises.

This book wasn't exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. It was just average for me. In the first quarter I was very invested in the book and the characters/plot roped me in. However, after the first quarter, I felt like the plot was non-existent. I got quite bored with reading and struggled to finish. It was a satisfying ending and the characters seemed to have growth, but other than that there was nothing outstanding about this. I would have enjoyed it more if there was a greater plot besides just the romance. A majority of this book was just the two love interests thinking of each other. Besides that, not much else happened.

I’ve really been enjoying The Duchess Society series by Tracy Sumner, and it was a no-brainer to pick up the newest installment, The Wicked Wallflower.

The Wicked Wallflower is Pippa and Macauley’s love story. Both have been secondary characters in earlier books in the series, and now it is their time to shine.

Pippa’s brother is a duke, but she wasn’t raised in society with the expectations of her newly inherited status. She wants her life to have meaning and to be able to make her own choices. She employs a mask of a wallflower to keep out of the notice of society. But she yearns for more—for Macauley.

On the other hand, Macauley grew up in the slums, mostly on his own for most of his life. But he’s made some powerful friends—including Pippa’s brother—and has made his fortune. He has this dangerous attraction to Pippa but tries his best to keep his distance while she’s determined to breach his walls.

I really enjoyed both characters. I liked how rough around the edges Macauley was, but there was this soft center, especially where Pippa was concerned. And Pippa was a touch reckless but also fiercely loyal and loves deeply. She wants to change the world nearly as much as she wants Macauley. The sparks between the two jumped off the page, and I found myself immersed in their story, anxiously wanting to know how they achieved their happily ever after.

The Wicked Wallflower stands on its own, but if you’ve been watching Pippa and Macauley throughout the series, this book is even more satisfying. I highly recommend The Wicked Wallflower and The Duchess Society series if you’re looking for a Regency romance that is more on the fringes of society.
