Jeffrey Archer is such a talented story teller. His latest Wm Warwick is no exception. The plot is good and it's nice to see how the characters develop as the age. It's such an easy read but so enjoyable.

Jeffrey Archers books are always so much fun to read. As with other reviews I refuse to outline the plot as I think the blurb writers do a better job without giving anything away.
This is one of a series about William Warwick and continues his battle with Miles Faulkner. You will get the most out of the book if you have read the previous instalments but it is also a stand-alone tale which has a beginning and comes to a satisfactory conclusion.

I never repeat the blurb. Fast-moving tale, humourous at times, unflattering portrayal of Royal Protection set-up of the era, but held my interest to the end. Renewed my enthusiasm for Archer's writing.,

Set in London in 1988, DCI William Warwick is tasked with the job of a Close Protection Office to Princess Diana, He is also there to investigate the full protection team as they have developed a lack of dedication and take the proverbial with how they spend money and claim excessive.. There is also another story being told of a jailed multi-millionaire criminal who has a passion for the finer things in life including a collection of fine art. He does not let the fact that he is locked away impact on his ability to do business whilst he is in .jail. I really enjoyed reading a continuation to the series.

The William Warwick series is an exciting series, they're always highly entertaining page turners.
This one, even if a bit less exciting than the others, is a well plotted and gripping story.
There's multiple subplots but the author never lose focus on the main plot and the story is never confusing.
Highly entertaining, fast paced, gripping.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I am not going to hide that fact that I am a big fan of Jeffery Archer's books, but while this book is good it isn't one of the best.

We follow Detective Warwick for the fifth time as he does battle with the fiendish art thief, Miles Faulkner. Following straight on from the last book, we join Warwick having captured Faulkner and returned him to prison using potentially not entirely legal means. Faulkner's lawyer, Booth Watson QC, is only to happy to see his client back in prison as he has plans to steal both Faulkner's art collection and his millions. The bulk of the story covers all of this.

Running along side this thread is an investigation into Royal Protection, who HQ have reason to believe are ripping off the tax payer. Warwick and his crew are despatched to Buckingham Palace to try and complete an investigation into exactly what is going on. Warwick's colleague, Hogan, has become Princess Diana's bodyguard too so is watching the action from the inside. The investigation centres around DS Milner and how many expenses , air miles and wages he is claiming. This part of the story starts slowly but is wrapped up really quickly (about 3 pages).

In a third strand, we have a Libyan terrorist landing at Heathrow to refuel his private jet and Warwick and his team having to arrest him on the tarmac. Carted off to the same prison as Faulkner, who soon sees a way to get early release by mining him for information, the terrorist plans two terror attacks - the first one being thwarted in fairly unspectacular fashion. The second plan is more successful, and involved the hostage taking of Princess Diana and her Lady in waiting, Victoria, during a clandestine holiday with Diana's boyfriend. This plot strand is introduced at the 85% mark, and very disappointingly, was over in a matter of a handful of pages, I couldn't help but think that the book should have been based around this idea.

Archer is a good story teller, and the book is readable and enjoyable, but I was frustrated by the pacing and how the most interesting plot strand was introduced and completed so late in the book that it felt like an after thought, and this left me feeling slightly disappointed.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Jeffrey Archer is a master storyteller. Whether you like his politics or not, he can hold you spellbound with his brilliant storylines and likeable characters.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, my only criticism was the ending was too straightforward and fast, and some would argue a bit imperialistic. That being said, would I read his next book? Yes I would with bells on.

What an amazing read! I have not read any of Jeffrey Archer's novels as I did not think they would appeal to me but how wrong I was. Unfortunately having not read any of the previous books in the Detective Williams Warwick series I am not aware of the background to the series but I still really enjoyed this story and was gripped by the subject.
The were many twists in the storyline which kept me reading into the small hours. A great read and I will certainly be looking to read more in this series as well as others.

Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Jeffrey Archer is what I consider to be a 'Quality Author'. He is consistently good. This book is no exception. Jeffery is a master of the plot.

I have just finished Jeffrey Archer’s ‘Next in Line’, which I really enjoyed reading. I had not read any of the previous Detective Williams Warwick books and the book held its own well, but I wished I had read the other books to have more background (and because I really enjoyed the story).
This time Warwick and his friend are seconded to Royal Protection and having to deal with fall out from the last book when they returned an escaped prisoner from Spain.
I loved the twists and turns as well as the humour.
Jeffrey Archer is quite a story teller.

The fith book in the Detective William Warwick series and yet another gripping, clever written book with two stories running parallel.

Miles Faulkner(From the previous book) in prison while Warwick and his team are send to protect the Royal Family on the days of 1988, when Britain was falling head over heels for Princess Diana, who made the task very difficult.

We also see the fanily side of Warwick in this book.

With lots of twists and turns Jeffrey Archer left us stunned and

The Wizard of words has done it again! Unputdownable!
Love the William Warwick series and this is no exception. Grips you and takes you on a rollercoaster right to the end! Although it is a series , it can be read as a standalone novel.
The novel follows two entwined stories one - Warwick and his team investigating Royal Protection police and what they are up to whilst dealing with a security threat by terrorists, what they don't know yet is who next in line is going to be for them. The team end up taking over Royal protection and Ross Hogan finds himself the personal protection officer of the most high profile royal of that time. Loved the way Hogans story was written and the chemistry between him and Victoria -the lady in waiting. Just who is the threat against and can they stop it in time?
The other follows Warwicks' nemesis, convicted criminal Miles Faulkner, and his escapades trying to appeal his sentence and dealing with Booth Watson (his barrister) who is trying to get his hands on Miles art collection collection and money. Miles ends up getting a reduced sentence for helping to thwart a terrorist attack- much to the annoyance of Booth Watson.

Would love for this series to be made into films! I'd be the first in line for tickets!
Well deserving of more than 5*. Many thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins for letting me read this. Looking forward to the next one - can't wait!

I've been enjoying the Warwick series and this book was no exception. I love seeing what the characters will get up to this time - there were some twists and turns along the way as expected from Jeffrey Archer and it makes it hard to put down as you want to know what happens next.

Can't wait for the next one!

With a Jeffrey Archer book, one has come to expect a strong story and a fast pace, and this book is no exception. It’s a very readable, page-turning novel, which is full of action, but it isn’t my favourite Jeffrey Archer.

The reason for that is that the story, which is set in London in 1988, revolves around Princess Di, whom Chief Inspector Warwick is assigned to protect. His protection team has possibly been infiltrated, and because of that, DI Ross Hogan, a single parent, goes undercover as Diana’s new protection officer. Apart from the fact that I’m heartily sick of the subject of Princess Di, it made the book feel very dated to me in a way that it wouldn’t have been if the royal under threat had been a fictional character.

Also, the novel is one of a series, although it can be read without reference to the other books in the series, and I found the references back, particularly early on in the novel, to what had happened with characters in earlier novels, somewhat irritating.

I did enjoy the book, though, and thought Jeffrey Archer balanced very well the Diana story and that of Miles Faulkner, a jailed criminal. He's a consummate story-teller, and I would definitely recommend the novel.

My thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins for a copy of the novel in return for a completely honest review.

What is there to say, this is a Jeffrey Archer story, it's as good as I expected from him. My only problem being that I Read it cover to cover in two nights. It is going to be a long wait for the next one

Loved this fast paced book.
Its set in London 1988 and Princess Diana is always in the news.
William Warwick and his team are sent in to investigate the Royal Protection Team and Ross Hogan is given the job of protecting the People's Princess.
Soon it becomes apparent that the security of the country is at risk and also the life of the Princess.

DCI William Warwick having by fair means or foul recaptures the escaped corrupt millionaire and puts him back into prison is given a new assignment that leads to a can of worms on top of the pending court case of the escaped millionaire with a possible indictment of police unlawful actions. A most entertaining kaleidoscope of events with a rich caste of interesting characters. A battle of wits between shady characters, an investigation into police corruption, dealing in fine art, foiling of terrorist plots and high court drama. Seemingly with all ends tied but with a suspicion of another deal to come.

Yet another fantastic book from Jeffrey Archer. Brilliantly written with just enough basis in fact to make it believable. Several storylines entwined together seamlessly to keep you enthralled to the end. I didn't realise it was part of a series, and it can definitely be read as a standalone, but I shall be looking for the rest of the series knowing I'm in for a treat.

There is absolutely no doubt that Jeffrey archer weaves a good story - and he does here - just not my favourite, it doesn’t pack such a punch nor have the same number of twists I’ve come to expect. Still worth the read though. Archer’s love of art shines through.
This is another in the Chief Inspector Warwick series but can be read as a stand alone. Set in 1988 he and his team are sent to investigate the possible corruption within the Royal protection team. With DI Ross Hogan going undercover.
Running parallel to this is the recapture of a criminal Miles Faulkner who could expose Warwick’s unorthodox methods of getting him back.
The two stories are cleverly linked

Another great book from Jeffrey Archer, this series is so well written with great characters. I enjoyed it so much I introduced my husband to the series, he is on book 4 after being on holiday, he likes them too. So equally good for anyone
