You always know you’re in for a good tale with a Jeffrey Archer book and this is no exception. Another in the William Warwick series. Full of plot twists but nothing overly violent. It’s no spoiler to say it all works out nicely in the end. Looking forward to the next one.

Many thanks to NetGalley, HarperCollins UK and Jeffrey Archer for my ARC in return for an honest review.

I have read many Jeffrey Archer novels and he is an excellent story-teller and this one was superb.

It is the fifth in the Detective Warwick series but can easily be read as a standalone. Set in 1988 in London focussing on the elite Royal Protection squad it is full of thrills, mysterious happenings, deceit, theft and affairs.

Ross Hogan is appointed as Princess Diana’s new protection officer and as the story unfolds, we are led into the world of undercover police work, thieves stealing from each other and, at time, it is difficult to know who is telling the truth.

Brilliant and highly recommended.

Continuing the Warwick series of books and introduces Princess Diana and a host of terrorists into the plot line. His arch nemesis, Miles Faulkner, finally hears his sentence. A good read.

Fifth installment of William Warwick series
It never takes me long to read a Jeffrey Archer book, always full of twists and turns
As soon as I start reading I am carried away into the storyline, and because of his writing style and the way he guides the characters through from previous plots you tend to remember we're you are

Thank you netgalley, Jeffrey Archer and Harper Collins UK

First of all this is the fifth novel in the Detective William Warwick Detective series. It is a work of fiction although it doesn’t feel or even read like it. I really enjoyed the entire story, full of action, thrills and spills, mystery, wrongdoings, deceit and audacity. It is my first novel written by Jeremy Archer and I am so grateful that my request to read and review the novel was accepted through my membership of NetGalley and sent to me by publisher HarperCollins in return for an honest review. I read this as a standalone novel and had no difficulty at all in understanding the novel, despite this series being ‘new to me’
The novel is set in 1988 in the busy capital city of London, but there are other settings as well, including a luxury yacht. Queen Elizabeth and her consort The Duke of Edinburgh are concerned about providing protection for their heir and his charismatic wife. The next in line for the throne is Prince Charles and his wife, the popular Princess of Wales, Diana, will become his queen and also the ‘Peoples Queen’ no doubt as well. Diana mania is fervent and The Royal Family need a new guard to keep this gem of a woman safe from harm. After negotiations with Scotland Yard and the elite Royalty Protection Command’s Detective Chief Inspector William Warwick is charged with finding a suitable candidate for the job. Soon the decision is made and the appointment announced.
Single father Ross Hogan, once an undercover operative, is Diana’s new protection officer. Even before he meets his charge, he uncovers criminality that involves three policemen within his place of work. They are committing fraud and are immediately sacked and in disgrace. Ross is straight, brave, bold and a lateral thinker, deigned highly qualified for the job as he will be a safe pair of hands for Diana. He makes arrangements for his child, knowing the job will involve travel and late nights. He will never know where he will be at any one time. Ross and Diana meet and get on well together. He knows that keeping Diana safe will be a hard job and he is soon proved right.
A second thread weaves its way through the story. It is about Miles Faulkner, a jailed criminal with an extremely valuable private collection of Art. He is represented by Booth Watson QC who at first believes Miles is dead. The vultures are around, including a disgruntled ex-wife who certainly has her eyes and ears on alert and wants her half of everything.
I recommend this new novel as a very good exciting read. The storytelling is intelligent, well researched and full of action. The storyboard is filled with intrigue, red herrings, shocks and downright untrustworthy characters – and there are many of them. I loved the way Diana was described, her compassion and hard work but somehow her frailty as well. I liked Ross and his family back up and I was rooting for a happy ending 4.5*

Next in Line is the 5th episode in Jeffrey Archer's extremely popular William Warwick series, which has followed Warwick's police career from rookie constable to Detective Chief Inspector.
The book sees Warwick's nemesis Miles Faulkner still causing him problems despite being behind bars and his career taking an unexpected turn as he finds himself covertly investigating the Royal Protection Command. There are terrorist threats, art scams, Diana Princess of Wales and even Special Forces making for a quite complex and involved story in the usual Archer swashbuckling style. It does border on the ludicrous at times but as Jeffrey Archer himself says at the end of the book it's a work of fiction and entertainment not a documentary.
It is great fun,my only qualm was that with ongoing double-crosses and bluffs it does get quite hard to keep track of quite what's going on and can be a lot more of a "brain strain" than the usual Archer fare..
That said it's good fun and there's constant action, there's not the realism of something like a Rebus or Tennison book but it's definitely what used to be called a good yarn.

This is the fifth book in the William Warwick series and I enjoyed this one as much as, if not more than the previous books. An air of reality as it dealt with a couple of real people who used to be in the news and the papers all the time. The Miles Faulkner story is a good thread that binds the books together and is very entertaining. Another hit for the excellent writer that is Jeffrey Archer. With thanks to NetGalley, the publishers and the author for the opportunity to read and review a e-ARC of this title.

Next in line by Jeffrey Archer was another great read. I love how Jeffrey keeps the sub plots going and never misses a beat. I rarely have to jump back to see who’s who or what the significance of something is thanks to skilful writing. The characters all have depth and Archer’s quick mind and royal/political nous keep things moving along and twisting to keep you involved and puzzling over the clues and connections. I always miss the characters (and am already wondering about what will follow in the next book) as each of Archer’s novels ends. That to me is a five star read. Next asap please ….

I really enjoyed this book but I am of an age where I remember 1988 and how Royal fever swept the country. According to the description, this is the tale of DCI Warwick and his team and their undercover investigation into the elite Royalty Protection Command however I found this to be only part of the story. There are a few plot lines running throughout this book including one with the recently recaptured prisoner, Miles Faulkner. This is where not reading any of the other books in this series caused me a problem as there was a lot that relied on previous storylines that I hadn’t any knowledge of. Although saying that I did manage to follow along and I really enjoyed how all the separate plots twisted their way together in the end.
The characters are well written and it moves along at quite a fast pace. This would make a good holiday read.

The first Jeffery Archer book I have read and it might not be the last. A very enjoyable read , I love that it had just enough reality that it could of happened.

It was with some trepidation I started this book. As the only previous Jeffrey Archer book I have read was a collection of short stories. However, this book was no disappointment. It was a twisty turney tale of gangsters, crooked lawyers,, royals, art scams and misadventures. It’s part of the William Warwick police series and is a fast paced exciting read. I would highly recommend. Jeffrey at his best.

I have read Jeffrey Archer before but not any of the Warwick books, which is why it took me a while to figure out who was who with nicknames etc. It didn't stop the enjoyment of a very well written book, with lots of twists and turns and side stories that all weaved together.

The book follows the story of a captured prisoner, Faulkner, who has been illegally removed from Spain after his escape from Prison in the UK. Whilst this is going on and the two police officers under a threat of losing their jobs at best and prison at worst for this capture, the team are given another case to investigate the royal families protection unit, as it is suspected things are not right.

I would highly recommend this book as there is loads of action and intrigue, and not a boring moment to be had.

This is the fifth book in the William Warwick series by master storyteller Jeffrey Archer. This series is a little different to other crime series in that it is more a story of the life and times of Detective William Warwick than an out and out crime series.

The scene is London, 1988 and the British nation is in love with Princess Diana and the Royal Family which means that Scotland Yard is under even more pressure to protect them. A Royal protection command is entrusted with this responsibility and Detective Chief Inspector William Warwick and his Scotland Yard squad are sent in to investigate the team when there are signs of corruption.

I have read the series from the start and found it a very enjoyable series written in the authors unique style. Great characters throughout and wonderful storytelling. I didn’t think this one was quite as good as previous ones but the author has set the bar so high.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Harper Collins for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

My first foray into a Jeffrey Archer William Warwick adventure and I have a feeling it won’t be my last! Having been given the accolade of being made the youngest DCI at the Met, William is in the process of trying to tie up loose ends regarding the upcoming trial of old nemesis Miles Faulkner. Faulkner is presently residing at her Majesty’s pleasure in Belmarsh prison but hoping for an early release with the aide of his corrupt lawyer Booth Watson. Watson is attempting to double cross his client with the help of Faulkner’s ex wife Christina when it comes to transferring Faulkner’s valuable painting collection back to England. However, Christina has plans of her own! William’s Unit is then unexpectedly put in charge of Royal Protection Command as the present controller, Superintendent Milner, is suspected of fraud plus MI6 have been told there is the possibility of a terrorist attack on the Royal family! Mr Archer certainly keeps you on your toes with all the action, humour, thrills and much drama all culminating in a riveting finale! A great holiday read!

Have read many a novel from Jeffrey Archer and thoroughly enjoyed them
but something didn't resonate here with this one. Didn't find the characters
to be particularly likable and also of the opinion that just too many sub plots.
Although I finished the book, I can only award it three stars.

This was hard work. Very hard work. The characters were difficult to follow.

Storyline within storyline, sub plot after sub plot. I gave up around 40%, sorry.

This wasn’t my favourite I found keeping up with all the characters was hard work maybe if I’d read all the previous books it would have been easier it was very well written as always I just wish he would write a book on its own not in a series I use to love those.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC

Thank you so much for this ARC. I absolutely love this series of books about William Warwick and co! Jeffery Archer has to be one of my favourite authors. His books just have a certain fluidity about them that makes you want to keep reading. Can’t wait for the next book!

I have no idea why but I’ve always avoided Jeffrey Archer’s books. Having whipped through this book (absolutely unputdownable) I’m off to buy up the rest on the series. Fabulous book, great storylines, no need to have read the previous books on the series…although if you’re like me you’ll want to now!

Thank you to Netgalley the author and publishers for an ARC in exchange for all honesty review
