This was a thoroughly enjoyable story which rolled along at a great pace.
It did take me some time to get used to all the characters, as I had not read any of the previous William Warwick novels.
Once again Jeffrey Archer has hit the heights.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I normally like this author but have to say this was not one of his best. It was basically just an okay read for me.
Another fantastic read by Jeffrey Archer.
Flew through this fast paced gripping tale.
This is for anyone who enjoys an action packed book.
Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for my early copy.
Easy five stars.
Wow, what a fantastic book this was to read, and I really didn't want the book to end! I hadn't realised this is actually part of a series (which I will now go and check out!) but you can very much read this book as a standalone.
For a good chunk of the book there are 2 storylines running and given the book title, you do wonder why but just like a good jigsaw the pieces eventually fit together and it turns into one hell of a fantastic read. I highly recommend this book!
Jeffrey Archer is a master storyteller. I have thoroughly enjoyed every single one of his books and this one is no exception. It is full of intrigue and sub plot after sub plot, which will keep you guessing until the very end.
This particular story is set in the 1980s and The plot is woven around the government and the royal family, namely Princess Diana, (with a few aristocratic criminals thrown in). I particularly love Jeffrey Archer’s characters. They are never abandoned in place of the plot. Each character has a back story which you find yourself becoming entwined in.
A very enjoyable read.
I was sent a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I’ve read this book in 1-2 days thanks to Covid! It was a real page-turner and very gripping. Lots of solid characters and a fast-paced storyline which I really enjoy. More please!

A really cracking read! An absolute page turner. Several storyline strands weave through the book and while there’s a satisfactory ending it leaves enough open so you look forward to the next book.
Definitely recommend this book
Book 5 in the William Warwick series is just as good as all the others. This time it’s 1988 and Princess Diana fever is at its height. The Royal Protection Command is under the spotlight and not in a good way. William and his team are tasked with investigating the unit while still trying to get through the aftermath of recapturing Miles Faulkner, whose court case is imminent, but is also one that could end Williams career.
It’s great to have this line up back again, with Williams’ wife Beth, ex under cover officer Ross Hogan still coming to terms with the death of his wife, Jo, the unlovely Miles Faulkner, his ex wife Christine, as well as the oily Booth-Watson. There is a nicely twisted plot, it’s fast moving, and I find I always read Jeffrey Archer books much too quickly The only negative for me was that some of the last chapters felt a bit rushed, however it’s well worth a read.. Although this could be read as a stand alone read, I would recommend this series be read in order.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Next In Line by Jeffrey Archer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Book 5 of the William Warwick saga. This was fabulous, set in 1980’s Royal Protection services, I loved it. Fast paced. Archer really is the greatest storyteller Thank you to #harpercollins and #netgalley for this advance copy.
Back in the swing of devious characters and plots. William Warwick ventures forth facing adversaries old and new. A skilful blend of the continuing saga with Mikes Faulkner and Booth Watson with a sprinkling of terrorism peppered with unease in the force protecting the Royals
Another excellent book from Jeffrey Archer. Had me hooked from the first chapter. Can highly recommend it.
I have always enjoyed Jeffery Archer’s books, as you would expect some more than others. This book is from a series I had not read before and the style really requires you to know the continuing story line rather that just dip in, no question that I would have enjoyed the book more had I done that.
Having said that I did enjoy this book, it’s story was interesting and told in a fast paced, action filled way. It did leave me wanting to follow the story in the future.
I would recommend this book as a good summer holiday read, Mr Archer has brought us another entertaining read.
‘Next in Line’ is the fifth instalment in the William Wallace series, following officer William Wallace as he takes his place as part of Princess Diana’s royal protection team. On the side, we also follow the story of a recently-imprisoned art curator and his wife.

This was a fast-paced, thrilling read; a perfect choice to get me out of a reading slump. The plot was so well executed and captivating, it’s written really well and was a genuinely great read. The parts with Diana in particular were so thought out and felt genuine - this is a writer who excels at what he does and that much is obvious.
However; where I felt it fell flat was the two separate storylines. I understand this is the fifth instalment of a series I have not read, but to be honest I did not struggle with any of the information present - but the chapters relating to the art thief felt like a chore to read. You’d go from the most action-paced, interesting scene with an overused cliff hanger (almost every chapter ends on one, which really lessons the effect) to another conversation between this guy and his lawyer. It was dull, and distracted from the main storyline completely.
thank you to netgalley for the advanced readers copy.
This was my first William Warwick detective story by Jeffrey Archer so my thanks to NetGalley and the publishers Harper Collins for this opportunity to read the latest novel by this renown author.
It’s complex, many faceted, and fast paced. A varied cast of a few law abiding citizens, outweighed by crooks, fraudsters and villains. The better parts of the novel were those that featured the personal protection officer and Lady in Waiting of Princess Diana as these sections added a lightness to the otherwise criminal aspects of the story. It is possible that I may have enjoyed this novel more had I read beforehand some of the earlier books in this series of crime writing.
I love the Warwick series and I am eager for the next one. I like that it is set in Maggie Thatcher's time and the myriad of characters makes it a total blast from the past for anyone who is old enough to remember that time. A fabulous read and I recommend the series.
You always know where you stand with Jeffery Archer, his books are read by millions for a reason, that combined with a dead princess is a winning formula it seems
NEXT IN LINE by Jeffrey Archer
Book - 400 pages
Published Date - 27 September 2022
Detective Chief Inspector William Warwick and his team are on another case! I warmed to all the characters in this novel. My favourite characters, The Hawk, Detective Inspector Ross Hogan, Detective, Sergeant Jackie Roycroft and more of the team members. For me, parts of the plot (Royalty element) annoyed and spoiled the flow of the story.
This is only my second reading of any Jeffrey Archer novel and probably won't be the last, especially the William Warwick series of books. I enjoyed the style of writing, the humour and banter between characters is to my liking.
I enjoyed this book and would recommend to others.
I WANT TO THANK NETGALLEY FOR THE OPPORTUNITY OF READING AN ADVANCED COPY OF THIS BOOK FOR AN HONEST REVIEW
Yet another fast paced and intriguing novel by Jeffrey Archer.
William Warwick is such a charming character and Beth, his wife even more so.
I am a bit tired of reading about Miles Faulkner and Mr Booth Watson. In my opinion they should be written out of the series now.
The introduction of the Personal Protection department was such a good idea, I loved that angle.
Unputdownable!
It is London 1966. Royal fever is sweeping the nation. Britain is falling in love with 'the people's princess'. This is an ideal setting for Jeffrey Archer's crime thriller, Next in Line. It is so gripping, I could not put it down. Detective Chief Inspector William Warwick and the Scotland Yard squad get the call to undertake the investigation of the elite Royal Protection Command and its commanding officer who have to be the best.. it is worse that it first appears. A week link could spell disaster.. I follow the gripping story to learn which target is next in line. It does not disappoint! Maverick ex-undercover operative Ross Hogan is superb. Archer's style is admirable. As he brings this story to life, I keep reminding myself that it is fiction. Next in line is a compelling story. Definitely a must read.
Another fantastic read from Jeffery Archer. There are 2 stories running along side by side. The first is a close protection officer to Lady Di as there are questions being asked about the Royal family protection team and the senior officer who has been able to select the people he wanted and it looks like he now is living above his means! plus, an organisation that we need to find who they a have as their next in line The other story is the ongoing Miles Faulkner who was kidnapped from a locked safe and returned to Belmarch against his will. Booth Watson is a great character and has got better through the series of books. It would be wrong of me to give too much away but from beginning to end the twists never stop and you won't see the majority of them till you read them I am so looking forward to the next book after the end of the court case.
