I started reading William Warwick novels a little while ago and was delighted to be given the opportunity by @netgalley to preview this one. Well done Jeffrey Archer - it didn’t disappoint! A touch of royal glamour, a story that had you wondering about inside information - could this actually have happened? - and some nice character development for DI Hogan, not to mention the enigmatic Miles Faulkner. A definite winner and recommended read.

First of all, I didn’t realise that this was part of a series and was therefore expecting a plot based on protecting a key member of the Royal Family. This does unfold eventually, however there are lots of other referrals to events that obviously were part of cases in the previous books and that form a thread throughout, so I did have to somewhat frustratedly accept that I wasn’t party to all the background and therefore the parallel story of Miles Faulkner. However, there was plenty of action, intrigue and twists to keep me interested and help me get into the book. I really liked DI Warwick and the members of his team, as well as his family and Princess Diana obsessed daughter. There are some great villains in Miles Faulkner and Booth Watson, and even Christina who you never know whether you should trust her. Certainly a book that I wanted to pick up and it’s made me want to go back and read the other books in the series. I really enjoyed rediscovering Jeffrey Archer as a writer as I’ve not read any of his books recently and I used to be quite a fan! So thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read an E-arc in exchange for a review. I will definitely be reading more Archer!

Head of Scotland Yard, he has been sent to investigate Royal Protection he discovers things are quite as it seems. This book is a perfect way to spend Autumn /Winter! Lots of twists and turns.

Great to read the latest instalment of William Warwick, his family & colleagues. This fast-paced police procedural has everything: the Royal family (reading this during the period of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II was particularly poignant), double crossing, plotting, corruption and more. This time investigating, and working within, the Royal Protection Unit alongside some interesting adventures involving Miles Faulkner and Christina, his ex-wife as they both try to outwit each other, cheating and twisting to win their personal battles.

Beth features more largely in this book, developing her role in the world of art, which was lovely to read. I love the relationship between William and his wife, the conversations they have and the secrets they both keep.

The major royal story covered in the book is tense, action-packed and using threads that could be fairly realistic, reflecting similar incidents that the public has read about and certainly had me racing to read through to a conclusion.

Jeffrey Archer has a real skill of layering different stories together with expertise, creating interest for the reader.

A thoroughly enjoyable read.

The booked is based in London, 1988. Scotland Yard, have been tasked with focusing on Royalty Protection Command, and its commanding officer.

Detective Chief Inspector William Warwick and his Scotland Yard squad are sent in to investigate the Royalty Protection Command team. Ross Hogan is tasked with the protection of Princess Diana.

I accidentally started reading this book to coincide with the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. I thought this book was fantastic. I loved the story line and the writing style is amazing. This is the 5th book of a series, the previous 4 I had not read before. Details of the past books play into this book so I think I would have enjoyed it even more if I had read the others.

corrupt royal protection officers
a bomb threat in london
and a princess in danger

william warwick has his work cut out for him in this book, as his unit are now investigating the royal protection officers who protect the royal family, and though everyone is on the same side when fraud is being looked into its time to pick a side

i thoroughly enjoyed this book and though with the present climate of the queens demise it was lovely to read this before even princess Diana died

as well as catch up with warwick and his family cant fault this book at all and cant wait for the next book in this wonderful series

I'm always very excited about the release of a new William Warwick. This one again did not disappoint! A brilliant storyline that partly felt more like non-fiction than fiction. Some parts were very close to real-life events and that made the story even better! I think this was my favourite in the series to date.

Instead of playing cops and robbers, there's a new challenge ahead for this group. The commissioner has decided that they will be assigned to the Royalty Protection Command where there's some dodgy stuff going on. Part of this assignment is looking after Diana, Princess of Wales. (and this is where the lines between fiction and non-fiction seem blurred)

MI6 has also warned them that because of recent terrorist attacks they suspect the royal family can be one of the next targets but where do you start?
On top of this our dodgy crook Miles is back in prison after he was "brought" back to the UK and his even dodgier lawyer Booth Watson is wheeling and dealing to get his grubby paws on Miles's fortunes. The question is will he succeed?

I loved every minute!

Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion

In alphabetical order: Abduction, Adultery, Art Theft, Corruption, Fraud, Malfeasance, Murder, Non-judicial Rendition, Perjury, Piracy, Terrorism. This book has them all. At the end of the previous book, international criminal mastermind Miles Faulkner was saved from an untimely death by his nemesis, DCI William Warwick, and his DI, Ross Hogan. They then smuggled him back to the UK without the legal extradition process being invoked. Faulkner’s lawyer, Booth Watson QC, unaware that his employer is still alive, removes (i.e. steals) all of the multi-million pond art work from Miles’s Spanish property and smuggles it back to the UK. At least that was what he intended until he discovers that his client is still alive, whereupon his tale switches smoothly to one of rescuing it from possible seizure by the authorities. The machinations around the subsequent movement of the art works, the sale, or not sale, of some of the pieces by Miles’s wife Christina, the crossings and double (treble?) crossings of the trio form the core of the book – or do they. For there is a second, completely separate, story concerning fraud and possible corruption within ‘Royalty Protection Command’ a specialist branch of the Met which does what it says in its title. One of the consequences of this investigation is that DI Hogan become the personal protection officer for Princess Diana, including turning a blind eye to her extramarital affairs, and putting himself in harm’s way.
The foregoing would be enough for most authors but not for Archer, who manages to get a subplot concerning Warwick’s wife Beth’s career in the internecine art world, featuring a vignette linked to what had appeared to be a minor aside in the previous book. I suspect this will be building into a new storyline in the future. Managing all that plotting without creating a shambolic gallimaufry is a tour de force on the part of the author, who fluidly blends all the elements to produce a satisfactory blend and a smooth conclusion, while leaving enough threads to ensure that (now Superintendent) Warwick and his team have plenty more to do. I was a bit negative in my review of the previous book in the series but this one more than satisfies.
I would like to thank NetGalley, the publishers and the author for providing me with a draft proof copy for the purpose of this review.

Chief Inspector William Warwick and his team are back, this time looking into corruption within Royal Protection. While Ross is assigned duty with the Princess of Wales, Warwick has his hands full with Miles Faulkner, back behind bars, but plotting his release.

Next in Line is another hit from Jeffrey Archer, with his trademark strong storyline. Warwick, Ross and all the characters are well created and believable, which helps everything tick along nicely. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it and would recommend to all.

I love Jeffrey Archer's work so much that two of his earlier books are in my top 10 of all time.
That's possibly why I was a little disappointed with this series.
Obviously its well written. I just find the style a bit too twee for me.
Really sorry!

I was once an avid fan of Jeffrey Archer and still enjoy his books for their page-turning familiarity. However, I haven't read this series and was therefore at a disadvantage here. Although it can be read stand-alone, the references to previous experiences of the characters are frequent, and it felt like joining a Netflix series at episode 4! For fans of this series and of Jeffrey Archer in general, this will not disappoint.

Thank you to #NetGalley and #HarperCollins for the advance copy of #NextInLine by #JeffreyArcher
Since the 1970’s when I read #ShallWeTellThePresident, I have enjoyed Jeffrey Archer’s books.
He is a master storyteller who weaves a fine web and enmeshes you in the tale. Whether it’s one of his short stories or part of a series like this one, he knows how to keep you reading.
This book is the latest in the William Warwick series and is set in the late 1980’s.
It surrounds the work of Royal Protection Officers and the dangers in the work they do, and what could have happened at that time to “the people’s princess.
A fabulous read.

I've enjoyed Jeffrey Archerv books many times over the years but have to say I was quite disappointed with this one. Unfortunately I found it to be formulaic and derivative. There were no twists and turns and I much prefer a crime book where I'm kept guessing for a large part of it which unfortunately wasn't the case here.

I always enjoy. Jeffery Archer book and this was no exception in my view. It conjured up memories of that era in the ‘80’s with Princess Diana and I loved it. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley for this copy to review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, the latest in the William Warwick series. It seemed to hang together better than the last although perhaps familiarity with the characters helped too.
This one is set in the late 80's and Princess Diana is at the height of her popularity, the Royal Protection squad is being investigated for corruption. Warwick's squad is sent in to investigate that.
This book also continues the thread of criminal Miles Faulkener, the machinations between him and his wife over their, largely illegally acquired, art collection mixed in with his now rogue lawyer. Action here moves between high English society, Spain and an English prison!
Warwick's daughter gains a higher profile in this novel along with his father in law. There are lots of threads and lots of characters and I suppose for a new reader this could be confusing.
It's a typical Archer big dipper ride with its tender moments too and all the more enjoyable for that.... and I don't think its finished yet.
I thoroughly enjoyed book 5, bring on book 6.

I do like a Jeffery Archer saga and this one is of his best. I wasn't sure at first whether it would be as good as the Clifton one but I think it meets the challenge.

William Warwick is back again and fighting crime and his nemesis again. This time it is set around the time of Charles and Diana's marriage when she was beloved by so many. The book is very enjoyable with lots of twists and subplots as to be expected from this author.

I do find some of the characters a bit pompous and unrelatable, particularly Sir Julian that's probably due to my working class background.

I am looking forward to the next installment.

William Warwick is back in this fast paced book.
The country is enamoured with Princess Diana , and Warwick is tasked with investigating the royal protection unit , whilst still dealing with his nemesis Miles Faulkner.
The story is well written and the story moves at pace with the characters being well rounded .
There are a number of stories linked in to the book which come together perfectly as I’ve come to expect from Jeffrey Archer .
The book is pure escapism and thoroughly enjoyable, I’m eagerly awaiting the next in the series.
Thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK.

Next In Line Jeffrey Archer

5 stars

The last time I read a Jeffrey Archer book was at least 20 years ago so when I saw his latest one available on NetGalley I was really intrigued to see if his writing is still as exciting as I remembered. I was not disappointed. This book is the 4th in the ‘William Warwick ‘series but although I have not read any of the previous three this did not detract in the slightest from my enjoyment of this book.

As is usual in Mr Archer’s books it is full of characters and sub-plots which I sometimes find difficult to follow but not in this case. Detective William Warwick is asked to join the Royal Protection Command under cover as it is suspected that the current incumbents are falsifying their expenses and making themselves a fortune. William’s second in command is actually assigned to protect Princess Diana and her lady in waiting and soon realises that Diana has a new admirer.with whom she is conducting a clandestine affair. However is Jamil Chalabi involved with Diana for sinister reasons?

Another sub-plot leads on from the previous book where William had successfully captured Miles Faulkner and had him returned to Belmarsh prison but Miles is still causing mischief in particular involving his vast art collection.

This book is a real page turner successfully bringing all the plots together in an explosive ending. I also like the way the author manages to combine fact and fiction in this story, I am sure Diana’s admirer was fictional but it is also a fact that she did have affairs whilst still married to Charles.

Obviously Jeffrey Archer is still an author at the height of his powers, I really enjoyed this book and am now planning to read the previous William Warwick books..
