The fifth in the William Warwick series and the second one I have read, this one was hugely enjoyable.
Set in the late 80s, we have different story arcs here, one about Princess Diana, one about terrorist threats and one with Warwick again facing his old foe Miles Faulkner. Theres also another involving Warwicks wife Beth and her work at an art gallery. These all seem to somehow be brought together into one overlapping story that is complex, yet easy to follow.
The writing here with Archer is top notch as usual. Mostly very believable situations but there are one or two where you do have to suspend disbelief somewhat but they dont take away from the overall enjoyment of the series.
As I said at the start this is my second read in the series and both have been hugely enjoyable, so much so that I am off to hunt out the missing books in the series.
Thanks to the publisher for the ARC through Netgalley.
It’s 1988 and Royal fever is sweeping the nation as everyone falls in love with the “People’s Princess”.
For William Warwick and his team, the focus is on the Royal Protection Command. Entrusted with protecting the most famous family in the world, there can’t be any weak links in the chain. Whilst Ross Hogan is back undercover and charged with a rather unique responsibility.
It soon becomes clear the problems with Royal Security are just the beginning as a renegade organisation have the Crown in its sight.
Archer has delivered a gripping and multifaceted instalment of this series yet again!
This story is fast paced with lots of threads expertly woven throughout by the author. I would say this wasn’t my favourite of the series as I found Ross’ assignment a little dull for the most part. But I was happy to once again be reading of the ongoing face off between William and Miles Faulkner and the clever twist that theme has taken.
As always, I am highly anticipating the release of the next instalment to find out where Archer will take William and the Scotland Yard squad next!
Another great story from Jeffrey Archer. If you love a good tale then these are the books for you. This series follows William Warwick from lowly police constable to the man in charge.
My first William Warwick and I’m gutted I haven’t read the others before this one, as it was a fabulous read.
Intrigue, plot twists all interwoven and a signature Jeffrey Archer cliff hanger - what’s not to love.
Thanks to @netgalley and publishers for arc
Loved this book from first to last page iit keeps you entertained and totally immersed
It is another William Warwick book who I also adore I have read all the past books but you don’t have to have done you will soon realise who cast of players are
Included in this book delightfully was Princess Diana and it was very strange as I was reading this as our own Queen died it did send little shiver down my spine, just remembering Diana. But anyway she is in the book although the book isn’t solely about her
I loved the plot and the gentle way Archer leads us through them then BANG it all starts happening at once so keep hold of your books because it gets a bit bumpy
Another Archer fabulous book do hope he is writing his next !
Needs *****+
Another brilliant page-turner from Jeffrey Archer. It follows on from a previous novel but is quite capable of standing on its own. Some really ingenious plot-twists and non-stop suspense. Can't wait for the sequel!
Jeffrey Archer has produced another exhilarating story to add to his collection.
As usual, the novel is well researched with an exciting blend of fact and fiction which results in a riveting read of Police procedure and Royal protocol.
Next in Line continues the story of the rise through the Police ranks, and of the fate of William Warwick as he faces his nemesis yet again, Miles Faulkner. The security of the Princess of Wales comes under scrutiny and threat as Ross leaves his undercover role to become part of the Royal bodyguard team.
Another great read which never failed to keep me up long past my usual bedtime.
The next installment in the William Warwick detective series. Archer never fails in his storytelling abilities - lots of twists and turns throughout and a cliffhanger ending, with the promise of a 6th novel. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC
Next in Line
This is a typical fast-paced, page turning Archer novel which makes you desperate to keep on reading to find out what happens next.
It’s the latest in a series involving DCI Warwick and although I hadn’t read any of the preceding books, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s been a while since I’ve read anything by Jeffrey Archer and I had forgotten just what a great story teller he is. The plot has several strands and the action moves rapidly with everything eventually coming together in a very dramatic climax.
I loved the 80s setting. The focus on police corruption felt very current and I really enjoyed his depiction of Princess Diana. DCI Warwick and his team are a likeable group of characters and I will definitely go back and read the earlier books in the series.
A great read.
Thank you to Net Galley and the publishers Harper Collins UK for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.
A good read .I have not read the other books in this series but I still enjoyed this story. When the team are sent to investigate the officers who are supposed to be protective Princess Diana they soon find out how they are abusing their positions by falsifying expenses and making themselves rich in the process .Plenty of interesting characters and there's corruption, betrayals, blackmailing and terrorism that keep you wanting to know what is going to happen. Think it would appeal more to Male readers but I did enjoy it
Jefrey Archer certainly knows how to write believable crime fiction and by placing this in 1988 and, by it being built around Princess Diana, the reader is guaranteed to be drawn in. DCI Warwick is a likeable character and I am tempted now to read previous Archer novels in which he appears. With police corruption being a strong feature the storyline is timely and convincing.
I thoroughly enjoyed Next in Line and congratulate Jeffrey Archer on his well-paced and well researched novel.
What can I say that’s not already been said. The master storyteller is back with another brilliant addition in the William Warwick series. Cleverly interwoven with real life characters like Princess Diana, William is charged with looking into the Royal Protection service. This is almost three stories in one beautifully interlinked. The corruption in the Royal Protection service, a threat to a prominent Royal and a tantalising look at how they are protected and of course it wouldn’t be a William Warwick book without further adventures with his nemesis Miles Faulkner et al.
An excellent read that I finished in one day
The fourth book in the William Warwick series but can also be read as a stand alone novel.
Loved this story. Well written with no bad language and plenty of humour.
The next in the William Warwick series and a good one. I enjoyed being taken back to when Princess Diana was alive and Margaret Thatcher was PM. The story continues from the last one where criminal Miles Faulkner has been captured and brought back to England and is awaiting trial. His wife and his lawyer are still trying to obtain a lot of his money and paintings. William and his team are also sent in to uncover corruption amongst the Royal Protection service. A good storyline and well worth reading.
Another episode in the William Warwick series cleverly using real life characters with Warwick’s colleagues and familiar adversaries. From investigating dodgy officers of the Royal Protection team to the continuing story of Miles Faulkner and his bent QC, culminating in a rescue at sea by the SBS. It all melds successfully into a good old fashioned over the top yarn that’s pure entertainment.
Another cracking read from Jeffrey Archer love this series following William Warwick and as usual does not disappoint. Full of drama and fast paced with great characters a real page turner.
Highly recommend and can't wait for the next one.
Thanks to NetGalley & HarperCollins UK.
It is a long time since I read a Jeffrey Archer book and I had forgotten what a great storyteller he is.
DCI William Warwick and his team are sent to investigate the Royal Protection squad. One if his team, the rather unpredictable Ross Higan is given responsibility for the People's Princess,
There is also suspicion of a terrorist ot ai Ed St the Royal family.
Next in line is a real page Turner and a thoroughly enjoyable read.
This is the second Jeffrey Archer I've read after Not a Penny More Not a Penny Less after seeing the mini series in the 1990.
I was a bit apprehensive with that one being such a fave and not knowing too much about the rest of his books.
But this was great, total escapism, with implausible plots and lots of twists. It's not my usual style of book and I'm not sure if I would read many more in this series, as it's the same character I can imagine that it will get a bit much.
It has not put me off Jeffrey Archer books though and I will definitely consider other books of his if I'm going away without distraction for a couple of weeks.
I always expect the best from Jeffrey Archer and I was not disappointed, in fact it exceeded all expectations, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough and I was actually biting my nails towards the end!
Jeffrey Archer has always written cracking stories, and this was no exception. I enjoyed it very much. Plenty of twists and expertly written.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review.
