Thank you for sending an early copy of the book to me. I really tried to get into the book but I was unable to finish it. The writing style did not work for me, I felt very distant from the characters and with the tragic events they were going through-that didn't work for me.

I won't be posting on my socials about this one as I did not finish reading it but I do appreciate the early copy. I was very excited to read it as I love historical fiction.

Ana is a midwife living in Poland in 1943 when the Nazi invasion happened and she finds herself delivering babies while a prisoner in an Auschwitz concentration camp. Together with her closest friend, Ester, they face the barbaric cruelty that the Jews had inflict on them by the nazis. In the midst of all the trauma, they deliver over 3000 babies before they were finally freed and headed back home. This story being based on what really took place is astounding to me and so very heartbreaking. The idea of the Nazis killing all the Jewish babies just for the fun of it was soul crushing. But seeing the strength of these nurses and the women they tend to is so extraordinary that it gives you hope in humanity.
This story made me sad, angry and happy at various points and I am thankful for the opportunity to learn about a part of history that I had no knowledge about whatsoever. It gripped me and didn’t let go. Anna Stuart knows how to write historical fiction.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.

I have a hard time rating any book about the Holocaust that is well-researched lower than 5 stars. The tales they tell are always incredibly heartbreaking and unimaginable, and yet all true accounts. Though I had read about the Lebensborn Programme before, The Midwife of Auschwitz explored it deeper, as well as what happened to the other children that were not “selected.” Emotional, heartbreaking and full of rare kindness during devastating times, the Midwife of Auschwitz was an enjoyable read for any WWII historical fiction lover.

Any time I read a book, whether historical fiction or non-fiction, about Auschwitz and Germany in the war, I learn new terrifying facts. I highlighted several new things I didn't know or think about that occurred in the Concentration Camps. One thing I didn't realize is that it wasn't just the Jewish people that were in the camps, as is the case with the midwife in this book. This book will break your heart, and yet, in a small way, there were small rays of hope coming from people who went through so much. I don't know how anyone survived these circumstances. This is a book you definitely want to add to your To Be Read pile asap.

Thank you Net Galley, Bookcouture and Anna Stuart for this digital ARC! I really enjoyed this heartbreaking and beautiful story. I have read many WWII novels and yet this is the first told from the perspective of the midwife in Auschwitz. Around 3000 babies were born in the camps and it is shocking and horrifying what these women went through and in those conditions to still have hope for the future generation. I enjoyed learning more about this time period and I really loved the 2 main characters Ester and Anna. Well done!

This is the first book I've read by her but it won't be the last. This book was a difficult read but while heartbreaking it was also a beautiful story. It was based on a true story and the characters were well developed, the story ran smoothing, no slow parts in it or plot holes. I absolutely enjoyed this read. It was an eye opening and tear jerking read. The horrors they went through was heartbreaking but the strength and bravery of the people that went through that was incredible.

Just wow! Anna Stuart wrote another unbelievable story. This book seemed to realistically portray the absolute horrors of the holocaust. The fears, the losses and even the hope of those in Auschwitz. The tears flowed throughout the story, but there were moments of happiness and unbelievable strength that made me smile.

Told in alternating perspectives - the story follows Ana, a midwife, who is sent to auschwitz for resisting the Nazi party. And her young friend, Ester, a jewish nurse. Together they begin to tattoo the Mothers number on the under arm of babies being born in Auschwitz and sent to families of Germany, in hopes of reuniting mother and child after the war. The horrors touch them personally when it is discovered that Ester is pregnant.

A must read for all fans of historical fiction.

When Ana Kaminski arrives at Auschwitz in 1943, she tells them she is a midwife and that her young friend Ester Pasternak is her assistant. During their time there, Ana and Ester deliver over 3000 babies. But when Ester herself starts to show signs, the women know they need to do something to make sure Ester will be able to find her baby after the war ends.

This historical fiction book covers one of the darkest places and events of WWII. The babies born at Auschwitz were either murdered or if they were deemed acceptable, farmed out to "decent" German families to be raised "correctly". Every thing about this is heartbreaking and sad. Ana and Ester do everything they can to give the mothers at least a few days with their babies. Some of this is drawn from history and I was anxious to finish the book to see how much actually happened.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me an advance e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

5/5 ⭐️

The Midwife of Auschwitz is a historical fiction set during the course of WWII. The story centers around Ana, a Christian midwife and her young friend Ester, a Jewish nurse, who become a midwife by necessity in the early stage of war, after being placed in the ghetto of her hometown. They end up on the same train to Auschwitz, Ana for suspicion on resistance, and Ester because of her religion. Together, they help 3,000 women give birth, a small moment of joy in the camp.

I’m a sucker for Historical Fiction, especially set during WWII, and the dual POV between Ana and Ester allow the reader to get a perspective of what’s happening in the head of our two MC. When one is starting to get hopeless, the other is here for her. Their love for one another. It’s a breathtaking and heartbreaking story. The cruelty of some SS is horrible, but the resilience of the women, the camaraderie, their strength … it’s incredible to read.

The Midwife of Auschwitz is an amazing novel who will break your heart and fill it with love.

I really enjoyed this novel - it was well written and very emotional. I would be interested to see what the Jewish community feels about this novel as I am not apart of that marginalized community.

The Midwife of Auschwitz is a histortical fiction novel set in WWII, inspired by a true story. Ana and Ester are two women who find themselves as prisoners at Auschwitz. When they arrive, they declare themselves as midwives and become the midwives for any pregnant woman at the camp. When blonde-haired babies are taken from their mothers to be given to German families, Ana and Ester devise a plan to secretly tattoo the babies with their mother's number in the hopes that one day they may be reunited.

I was fascinated by this book. I immediately loved both Ana and Ester and became incredibly invested in their stories, as well as those of their families. The book is clearly very well researched and is respectful of the true events that inspired this fictional book. I especially appreciated that at the end of the book, there is information about the real woman who the book is inspired from, as well as other characters with real life inspirations, general information about Auschwitz and other camps, and the daily life of a prisoner in Auschwitz. I am really glad I read this book.

This book is inspired by a true story. It is heartbreaking yet heartwarming, it really pulled on my heartstrings and I went on an emotional ride.

It's written from 2 perspectives - Ana & Ester. It's inspiring how they both support each other through the darkest of times and never lose hope

I found it really hard to put down, every page and chapter had me wanting to keep reading.

It really is a reminder to be thankful for the times we live in

Publication of this book is 31 May

In this book we follow a two women who are ripped appart from their families and are sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Upon arrival they are asked to deliver the babies of the pregnant women at camp. They deliver abour 3 000 babies. Some are killed, some are ripped appart from their mothers to be "germanised". We also see the support between these women who, although having nothing to eat and being scared and hopeless, support eachother throughout the entire journey.

This book was heartbreaking yet also heartwarming. I thought it was beautifully written and truly showed the pain and suffering of the people in concentration camps. I highly recommend this book if you like historical fiction as it was so beautifully written. I loved seeing the 2 POVs in this story! Will probably be in my favorite reads of 2022!!

This is a superbly written book that really captured my heart.
I was so immersed in the story it was hard to put it down.
It is always harrowing to read about the Holocaust & the awful camps such as Auschwitz but I feel they are stories that needed to be told.
This is based on some accounts of a true story about Stanislawa Leszczynska a catholic midwife & is very well researched.
It was horrific what happened to pregnant women & their babies & I would have wanted someone like Ana or Ester to help me through it.
We follow Ana & Ester’s story from the very beginning of the German occupation.
The segregation of the Jews & the setting up of the ghetto’s & on to the incarceration into Auschwitz & all that it entails.
This is a book that will grip you from start to finish & I just curled up in my own little world until I finished it.
A touching heartbreaking read that will grab at your emotions & yet a truly inspirational story of hope where there seems to be none.
This is writing at its best, an absorbing story you do not want to miss.
This is definitely an author I will be adding to my list.

This story follows a polish midwife Ana and a young Jewish nurse Ester, that are sent to Auschwitz and together they help over 3,000 mothers give birth while in this terrible place.

This is inspired by the true life story of Stanislawa Leszczynska, a Polish midwife. This was not an easy read, it was truly heartbreaking but it was a powerful story that will stay with me. This was a beautifully written novel of motherhood, friendship, love, faith, and survival.

I recieved an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have read so much fiction and non fiction about the Holocaust over the years. Yet, there are still many nuances to cover. The Midwife of Auschwitz is the story of Ana and Ester who struggled to bring life into the world while the environment they lived attempted to extinguish much life.
The story is heartbreaking and captivating. Marking the babies born in the death camp in an attempt to reclaim them was sheer genius.
The book is unsettling but so very important to read. In the face of extreme adversity, honor, valor, and strength prevailed.

Many people know I love reading about WWI and WWII because I learn so much and The Midwife of Auschwitz is no exception. The novel is inspired by a true story and takes us on an emotional ride from beginning to end. Ana is a midwife who ends up in Auschwitz with her young friend Ester, a nurse. They are saved from extermination because of their medical backgrounds; they helped many women and babies during their incarceration. I was engrossed from the beginning. Tissues were needed.

I love reading historical fiction books because i feel it helps me learn about the history of the world & the midwife of Auschwitz is a well researched book on the brutality that went on the concentration camps at Auschwitz-Birkenua.

Set in the concentration camps at Auschwitz-Birkenua, The Midwife of Auschwitz is based on the true story of Stanisława Leszczyńska, a Polish Midwife played by Ana Kaminski the fictional name given by the author in the book & Ester, a Jewish nurse who were seperated from their families and who survived the brutality of the camp, bring new lives into this world during during the ww ll. The book speaks of the strength women showed in these camps against the barbaric treatment imposed on them by SS officers.

The author have done a fabulous job on the characters, each character is well researched & stands strong & are a mark of their bravery. I found the writing very easy, making it a very well written book. The third part of the book did bring a tear to my eye but i wish the end could be a bit different i.e i wish Ester and Filip reunion could be a bit different instead of bringing it on so sudden. Though, the ending did give me a thought to linger on, with Ester’s child still to be found.

This heartbreaking story is a highly recommended book if you have read The Tattooist of Auschwitz.

Thanks to Netgalley, the Publisher Bookouture and Author Anna Stuart for this ARC.

Will post my review on my bookstagram on 31st May where I’ll be on a books on tour with the publisher.
