I could really relate to this, I've been sober for 10 months so knew I needed to read this. There was so much I could relate and what a wonderful way to learn about his recovery.
This brutal memoir covers the years of Jay Keefe’s uncontrolled drinking and the many years of sobriety since. He doesn’t just describe his alcoholic behavior, he shines a bright spotlight on it with his unflinching descriptions. You will wonder how he will ever stop drinking and when he does for the final time, you’ll hope that he makes it through each long day. That he does is a triumph.
I chose this book because I recently lost a beloved family member to alcoholism. He, like Jay Keefe, had a reasonably happy childhood, no history of alcoholism, etc. He, like Jay, went to rehab many times. Unfortunately, he did not survive. I am so glad Jay succeeded, is sober and gets to enjoy the rest of his life. This is a hard book to read but to me it was impossible to put down. 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and Jay Keefe for this ARC.
I have read numerous sobriety books over the years (not as many sober years as Jay but still quite a few) and I am always grateful for people who take the time to document their struggle but for some reason I couldn’t find any help or support in Jay’s writings unlike others. I have given it 4*s because I will always support those that give light to this difficult subject
