I adore every book in this series and this was no exception. My kids love learning about people and the illustrations are always unique and interesting
As a big Tolkien fan, I couldn't pass up on reading this book. I needed it in my Tolkien collection.
This is a short children’s biography of Tolkien. It includes that he went into WWI and that his friends died, so it was surprisingly realistic and accurate. But it was also light, interesting and done age appropriate.
The illustrations are wonderful and colorful. This would be a wonderful way to introduce your children to Tolkien as it goes pretty in depth into his writing. Then you could move on and read The Hobbit to them!
This is a fab picture book all about the life of J. R. R. Tolkien the author of The Hobbit and the The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I don’t read fantasy so didn’t know much about the author apart from the fact he was friends with C. S Lewis. I learnt a lot about him, including the fact that he was born in South Africa, and was orphaned as a child, so his friendships were very important to him. I loved the illustrations in this book and really do recommend it for younger children.
Absolutely adore this series and I am writing a list of all those I would love to give my little one (if they existed) and this is one of them! Interesting person and written so well, highly recommend!
Loved this Little People, BIG DREAMS book on Tolkien whom I didn't know much about other than he wrote the Hobbit which I've read and The Lord of Rings trilogy which I haven't read. And was friends with C.S. Lewis. So even though this was geared towards younger readers it helped fill in the gaps for me.
This addition to Vegara's Little People Big Dreams series looks at the life of JRR Tolkien. This father of high fantasy had a love of telling stories from a very young age. Through loss, two World Wars, and their aftermath, Tolkien would continue to weave stories, and create languages. His books have had movie adaptations, and tpThe Silmarillion is the basis for the Amazon Originals Rings of Power series.
I appreciate that the author handled certain parts of people's lives with gentleness and compassion. That's been the case with many of the people who've been covered in this series. At the end is a section with more detailed information on life, suitable for older readers. Inspirational and educational both, this entire series is great, and full of delightful art to engage younger audiences!
This is one of my absolute favourites in the whole series. The lord of the rings is one of the most incredible series and one of my personal favourites and this book only made me love Tolkien more. Despite loving his novels I actually knew very little about him - that he was from South Africa, that he fought in the war, the losses he faced etc so it was awesome to learn so much and has only made me want to discover even more. The illustrations in this are absolutely beautiful and truly help make this book. Just gorgeous.
This was a title in one of my favourite series that I'd been wanting to get to for a while so I was really excited to read it. We're following famous author J.R.R. Tolkien here and whilst I knew of his books I didn't know much about him as a person so this was a rally interesting read. I also like how the story depicted his fictional worlds with beautiful illustrations. I'd definitely recommend this book!
'J.R.R. Tolkien' by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara with illustrations by Aaron Cushley is a picture book biography in the Little People, BIG DREAMS series.
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born in South Africa and then his family moved to England. His interest in inventing languages continued after his mother died and he went to King Edward's School. He made good friends there who later died in the Great War. He became famous after publishing 'The Hobbit,' a book he wrote for his children.
This is a lovely entry in the series and the lush illustrations are wonderful. The tragedy is there for older readers to find, but diminished for younger readers.
I received a review copy of this ebook from Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Children's Books, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

This book is part of the Little People, Big Dreams series by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. This series is large and offers a fun look into the lives of famous people in history and in the entertainment world. I have enjoyed every book I have read from the series and I hope to own them all one day. The entire collection would be a perfect addition to both adult and children book collections. It is a fantastic way to introduce children to important people in a way that is fun and not overwhelming like some history books are. The illustrations are adorable and each page is a work of art. I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series.
Like others in the Little People series, J. R. R. Tolkien is exceptional.
It's a wonderful way for younger readers to learn about influential people (in this case, one of the most important people in the fantasy genre).
The art is lovely, the book is a nice length for a younger audience, and I really cannot rate this any less than five stars.
Fantastic stuff.
J.R.R. Tolkien is another wonderful children's book in the Little People, Big Dream series written by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. This story is about the author of The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings series and is an enjoyable illustrated introduction for young readers. Thanks to NetGalley for my digital copy.
This is a lovely beginning biography of the father of modern fantasy. All the main points of his young childhood are hit: growing up, losing parents, getting married, going to war, etc. My favorite part of this book happens to be the illustrations. They portray the real person and his fantasy life in a very wonderful way. A stand out addition in this long running series.
WoW! Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara books must be one of the best little books to purchase for children, these are the best-selling series of books and educational games that explore the lives of outstanding people, from designers and artists to scientists and activists. All of them achieved incredible things, yet each began life as a child with a dream.
So, this latest book is about J. R. R. Tolkien by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara and is just brilliant throughout.
This enchanting book features stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the writer's life.
It's one book, you should definitely buy for your little readers so they can learn about this wonderful artist.
I am so glad these books are being published and I highly recommend all of these books

Big Thank you to netgalley and the Quarto Publishing Group for a free copy for an honest opinion
Basically if you want a book resource on Tolkien to introduce him to your kids, or kids you work with then you could do much worse than this! Adults fans of Tolkien might well want this simply for your collection!
I have been working on reading The Hobbit to my five year old. To be able to read him a book written accurately about the author was fantastic. It's well written so that it's easy to understand for a child his age. The artwork in the book is very colorful and caught his eye. He asked questions and enjoyed sitting down to read it with me! I think that he truly enjoyed learning about JRR Tolkien and we've added this to our Homeschool reading list. After reading him the ARC copy from Netgalley I ordered our own copy to have on our book shelves.
I love this series so much. This story was precious and intriguing. I could see this book being of interest to older fans of Tolkien reading this to a new generation of fans. The story flowed well and enhanced the illustrations which are absolutely gorgeous and vivid.

Come on people... how can I pass up on a book about Tolkien?
He is an absolute frigging genius, even as a kid.
I loved the beautiful illustrations and all the facts about his life.
I was however puzzled about the repeated timeline at the back. Redundant no? I mean we just read the entire book about the exact same thing... headscratcher.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I didn't know much about JRR Tolkien before this book, except he write books that I haven't read. This book was a good introduction and made me want to learn more information about him,
Quick and cute! This title from the Little People, BIG DREAMS series tells the story of a young J.R.R. Tolkien. This is is an easy read that will provide children with information that is easy to follow, yet still inspiring. Additionally, the illustrations are adorable.
