Cat and Mouse is the latest instalment in the prolific M.J.Arlidge's D.I. Helen Grace series. With a savage killer striking seemingly at random in Southampton Grace also finds herself the target of the psychopath she battled wits with in the previous book in the series, Truth or Dare , and the subject of further attempts to get her kicked out of the police force by a superior officer jealous of her reputation and success.
This is a roller coaster ride for both the reader and Helen Grace as she appears to be in constant peril in various ways from start to finish with her job, personal relationships and even her life very much on the line. More than others in the series this book needs to be a taken with a pinch of salt as Grace appears to be battered in every way possible yet still bounce back every time while performing almost superhuman physical feats.
Having said that it's very entertaining and as ever M.J. Arlidge keeps his readers as well as his main character on their toes.
A great read and very entertaining but very much a follow up to Truth or Dare and I'd strongly suggest that readers new to the series read at least that one before this to get the most out of the continuing story-lines in this one.
Another great read from M. J. Arlidge. I have read all of the previous Helen Grace novels so was very happy to be approved for an ARC of this one. I felt like there was a good balance between the crimes the characters were solving and their personal lives. This was fast paced and a very enjoyable read. I am looking forward to catching up with Grace in the next one and seeing what sort of a character the new guy turns out to be…
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC.
Great book and lots of twists and turns to keep you going. Well written. Good story. The author always provides a book that you read into the night - with the light on all night afterwards
Helen Grace is my absolute favourite character ever (even more than Rizzoli) so I was delighted to receive an eARC of her latest adventures especially given how we were left at the end of Truth Or Dare and the dark turn things had taken.
I was hooked from the outset of this tale and loved all the drama and twists and turns, but I have to say at points I was more than a little worried that it might be the end of Helen Grace and I was close to chucking my kindle!
Thankfully she is a legend, but not infallible and I enjoyed seeing this more human side to her develop.
Plenty of drama, gore and twists kept me guessing as always and now I'm gutted it's done. Can't wait for the next instalment.
My thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for my eARC in return for my honest review.
A killer is on the loose but there doesn't seem to be any links between the victims.
Detective Inspector Helen Grace is in charge but her personal life is leaving her vulnerable.
She starts to unravel the murders and the reasons behind them.
A real page turner to the last twist!!
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book.
Love the character of Grace and how the investigation played out

I just reviewed Cat And Mouse by M. J. Arlidge. #CatAndMouse #NetGalley
Another brilliant instalment in the DI Helen Grace series! The book is fast paced from the very beginning and I couldn’t put it down. There was lots of twists throughout, but of course DI Helen Grace always knew what was up! A brilliant read, and that cliff hanger! Can’t wait for the next book!
Helen Grace is an excellent detective and all round brilliantly written character and this case does not disappoint.
Being stalked herself by a psychopath out for revenge she is investigating a series of murders where the killer seems to stalk his victims through the city.
In trouble with her boss and ultimately put on leave she ultimately triumphs in the case but not without plenty of heart-stopping scenes along the way.
Always enjoy a Helen Grace novel and this one is no different. Bringing you lots to keep you on the edge of the seat it is hard to put down.

A silent killer stalks the city, targeting those home alone at night, playing a deadly game of cat and mouse with the victims. As panic spreads, Detective Inspector Helen Grace leads the investigation, but is herself a hunted woman, her every step shadowed by a ruthless psychopath bent on revenge. As she tracks the murderer, Grace begins to suspect there is a truly shocking home truth that connects these brutal crimes. But what she will find is something more twisted than she could ever suspect...
I really loved this book. I loved this author's all fall down then Hide and Seek and now this. Brilliant.
Thanks to NetGalley and Orion Publishing Group for giving me an advance copy.
Wow! I didn't think this series could get any better, but it has. I may be biased as the location of it is relatively local, so I could imagine the settings, but in my opinion this is a great book. The characters are interesting and the storyline definitely didn't drag at any time. I was on the edge of my seat and determined to finish it before I could even think about going to bed!
Action packed from start to finish as always
Helen Grace goes from strength to strength
Gruesome murders
Plenty of twists
And defiantly plenty of drama
Loved it
Thank you netgalley, M J Arlidge and Orion Publishing Group
Wonderful twisty Helen Grace book. These stories just get better and better. I knew it would be good and it was. Always a treat.
A serial killer stalks the city, playing cat and mouse with the victims. Meanwhile, DI Helen Grace is shadowed by a psychopath looking revenge, as she tries to investigate the serial killer case. Helen soon finds that there may be a shocking home truth connecting the brutal crimes, more twisted than she could ever expect... Another thrilling entry to the series that keeps you turning the pages until the end. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.
When this author has a new book out that features Helen Grace you know that you are in for a treat. Cat and Mouse is a rollercoaster of a read which had me reading late into the night. A really good thriller, fast paced, intense and utterly gripping. This author certainly knows how to tell a story and raise the readers heart rate. Loved it!!!!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Thank you to netgalley for the oppurtunity to read an early copy in exchange for an honest review.
I have read all of this series so of course i wanted to read this one. A few in the series havent been as good as the others, but i have kept on with reading them. This one was a good one. My only criticism of this book was one part of the storyline i felt wasnt needed. When I'd read it i couldn't see the relevance of it as it didnt seem to have any impact on the way the book ended. I shall continue to read anymore that come in the series, but i feel that the author may be struggling with tying up all the loose ends now. Brilliant series which i have enjoyed but not sure how much longer it will work
This was the first book of the series i read, i was able to follow most of the back stories but it also felt like there was too much going on, which made it all unbelievable, the main detective was on the hunt for a serial killer being hunted by a different killer, in trouble with her supervisors and ultimately on leave due to killing someone in self defense. This was just one of the storylines, also multiple stories of the families of victims of the serial killer and the personal life of another detective on the squad.
3.5 stars
Superwoman Helen Grace is back, and she shows no signs of slowing down.
She continues to run recklessly at things with good intentions, and personally I'm all for that.
It gives the book good pace, and some tension.
There are moments I was properly heartwarming by the team. Not so Emilia, but that's the point.
Enjoyable.

Another great outing for DI Helen Grace. I really enjoy the way she solves the crimes that rage the city and how it feels she almost pledges to the victims to hunt out the killer .
