Although I had not read any other books in the series, this did not detract unnecessarily from my enjoyment of this book. The storyline about a serial killer terrorising a neighbourhood was compelling and unfolded quite well, with the right amount of hints and links to both confound the reader and lead them to predict the outcome. At times it felt a little formulaic but that isn’t surprising in a series. Interesting enough to keep me engaged but not especially memorable or original.
With thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review.
Another brilliant and fast-paced book featuring Helen Grace.
Well-written, intriguing and gripping I was hooked from the first chapter.
Detective Inspector Helen Grace is back again with the Southampton Central Police Department in the 11th book in the series. Although Cat and Mouse can still be read as a standalone book, there is a bit of back story to the characters and one of the storyline threads.
A serial killer is stalking the city at night and targeting those home alone killing without pity or remorse. As well as trying to figure out who the killer and their motive is, DI Grace is also being hunted by a psychopath wanting her dead.
I adore the DI Helen Grace books, each one I’ve read is thoroughly addictive. Cat and Mouse is full of action, drama, suspense, surprises and twists and turns. It is totally gripping, dark and really is the old cliche of nail biting stuff. Just a word of warning: don’t read while you’re alone at home at night…
Please keep them coming Mr Arlidge!
With many thanks to NetGalley and Orion Publishing Group for the opportunity to read this ARC, in return for an honest and unbiased review.
For me, Arlidge is back on top form with this latest instalment of the Helen Grace series. The main investigative plot is intense and full of danger. I was on the edge of my seat reading it. Arlidge does also continue Grace's individual plot, and I do understand people's frustration with this, there is nothing wrong with having a crime book that centres around the investigation alone. I do not think Grace's plot thread added anything to the book but it did not detract from my enjoyment either.
With a series of books I always love catching up with established characters and seeing what happens to them and this was no different. There are some interesting developments for some of the characters and I cannot wait to see what Arlidge does with them next.
Thank you to NetGalley and Orion for an advance copy.
Wow what a fantastic rollercoaster of a ride.never to be disappointed with the He!an Grace novels. That keep you awake not able to put the book down until it's finished it's a hard hitting MIT squad that Helen lead all her bosses want to get rid of her. Because the think she's a liability. Yet she gets the job done..It's a absolute firecracker of a book, Southampton Nick would definitely not be the same without her. Her personal clean up rates in MIT are second to none, Can't wait for the next encounter. One of the best series of books I have read. Highly highly recommended
Cat and Mouse by M J Arlidge is book 11 in the DI Helen Grace series and I’ve read and enjoyed them all.
In short, DI Grace is back leading a new baffling investigation into a silent killer who is targeting those home alone at night, also she herself is being hunted by a ruthless psychopath bent on revenge.
I absolutely love this series, it’s always full of action and surprise…for one thing about Grace, whether it be in her personal or professional life, whenever she went for something carnage usually followed! Always a gripping read, I highly recommend this series.
Big thanks to MJ Arlidge, Orion Publishing Group and NetGalley for this eARC which I chose to read in return for my honest review.
A great thriller that keeps you guessing with lots of intrigue and twists. Loved the characters especially Detective Inspector Helen Grace as she fights for justice. I could not put it down as the suspense and drama was first class.
Wonderful thriller cannot recommend enough.
Well done M. J. Arlidge look forward to reading more books.
Thanks to NetGalley & Orion Publishing Group for a advanced copy.
Love this series, and this book is no disappointment. All the elements that the reader wants and expects. Well written good plot and cast of characters, can’t wait for the next one
Engaging thriller that keeps you guessing, nothing is quite what it seems. Helen Grace as the detective in charge is herself being stalked and this adds to the thrill, however is she a bit too clever for her own good. Although it's nice to have a strong female lead it seems that there is nothing Helen can't do and at times makes her totally uncreditable. Worth a resd but don't take seriously.
When you think you’re safe,When you think you’re all alone,That’s when he’ll come for you...A silent killer stalks the city, targeting those home alone at night, playing a deadly game of cat and mouse with the victims. As panic spreads, Detective Inspector Helen Grace leads the investigation, but is herself a hunted woman, her every step shadowed by a ruthless psychopath bent on revenge. As she tracks the murderer, Grace begins to suspect there is a truly shocking home truth that connects these brutal crimes. But what she will find is something more twisted than she could ever suspect.
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series!
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story.
Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down.
Can't wait to read more of these.
Recommend reading.
I was provided an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. This is my own honest voluntary
I just couldn’t click with this book and I’m unsure why. I haven’t read any of the other books in the series so that is maybe why.
I have been a huge fan of this series since the beginning and I was delighted to see another book featuring Helen Grace. So it is with sadness that I can only give this one three stars. For me this one seemed to lack the spark that the books have had up to now. The annoying journalist & the problems with her superiors seemed to be just a repeat of what has gone before. This was still a worthwhile read for me but it was disappointing. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.
I normally love this series but I struggled to get into this one. It was predictable and much of the same. Helen fights against the boss, ignores all orders and tries to do everything herself whilst Emilia waits to splash her on the front page and make her life difficult. Helen’s actions were just a mess. She has about 5 different chase scenes which are all exactly the same and the amount of injuries she sustains without needing a hospital is ridiculous. I just found Helen’s character almost unlikable in this book. I do love the short punchy chapters which make it a fast paced read but there are so many different POV’s that it’s hard to keep everything straight. It’s such a shame because the rest of this series is a fantastic read.
While this is the latest in the series, it works well as a standalone story too. A fast paced thriller with plenty of twists and turns to keep you hooked until the end.
This book is a great fast paced thriller, once I started this there was no way I could have put it down til the final page, I had a re read some parts as the threads of the story could be a touch confusing. The twists in this thriller make you feel like your on a tilt-a-whirl, I love the strong but flawed female characters in this book, I love that it feels like you can literally trust no one as you are drip fed clues. I genuinely can't wait for more Helen Grace adventures.
Oh my goodness ... that was a good book ... had me absolutely hooked from the beginning to the end!
This is the 11th book in the Helen Grace series but if you haven't read any of the others, don't worry, it works quite well as a standalone but I think you will want to go back and read the others after finishing this one if only to put a bit more flesh onto the main characters.
This is an intense read where the short and punchy chapters add to that intensity and keeps the story rolling along very nicely. The plot is engaging and intriguing and the characters are strong and well developed.
Full of action and heart-in-the-mouth scenes of peril, this is one for people who enjoy a great crime thriller/police procedural but, be warned, you will definitely be checking your windows and doors more than once each night!!
Thank you to Orion Publishing Group and NetGalley for enabling me to read Cat & Mouse and to share my thoughts.
A fantastic instalment in a well established series. It is always a challenge to keep a series that is this long fresh and appealing, but MJ Arlidge has done a great job with his 11th outing for DI Helen Grace.
This is one of those books that you don't want to read alone at night. Specifically, because that is the plot here - a serial killer targeting people home alone, seemingly randomly and with brutal force.
It's twisty, with short chapters and plenty of jumpy moments. Really really loved this one,
Recommended to those who like a dark thriller and something to get stuck into. It took me a week or so to read this as I wanted it to last a while :)
Cat and Mouse by M J Arlidge is another in the D I Helen Grace police thriller series. This storyline is very interesting, engrossing and consuming. It shows all members of the MIT at Southampton Central working together as a team. It is violent with a malicious desperate killer causing mayhem and committing several unexpected murderous deaths..
Highly recommended
Helen Grace is now a well known acquaintance of mine; with myself being a massive fan of this series straight from the beginning. During the evolution of Grace's story, we have come to learn more about her. With this book focusing on the life of the police woman and her colleagues, just as much as the crime itself. i must say, I do miss the crimes which featured at the beginning of this series, which were pure genius. However, the crime here was one of our modern world, and again showed sparks of the same genius. I will always be a fan of this series and I must say, I can't wait to see what comes next!
Another great DI Helen Grace book by m j arlidge. She's a great character and the stories are always full of twists.
