My son is a fan of Bernard Cornwell and when I was given the opportunity to read this book I thought I would see why. I enjoy historical fiction and this book was fast paced, action-packed and thoroughly entertaining. A rollocking adventure! I will now borrow my son’s Sharpe collection.

I adore the Sharpe books and this is another good swashbuckling read from the hero. Sharpe and colleagues are on great form, as always.

Set during the war in Spain in 1812 this book is fast-paced and furious. Taut writing ensures a story that’s action-packed and gripping. This is another fabulous Richard Sharpe adventure featuring stand-out characters including his formidable wife, treacherous foes and brave fighters. It’s gruesome in parts, hilarious in others and altogether a quick, rollicking read.

Spain, 1812
If any man can do the impossible it’s Richard Sharpe. And that’s exactly what he’s asked to do when he’s dispatched on an undercover mission behind enemy lines.
For a remote village is about to become the centre of a battle for the future of Europe. And only Sharpe’s small group of men – with their cunning and courage to rely on – stand in their way.
Another great story in the Sharpe series. Always entertaining and enjoyable. Well written with great characters and fast paced action.

This is Sharpe's second book since his return, and it is proper Sharpe, don't get me wrong i thoroughly enjoyed the previous book, but this is different class. Sharpe and his rifles doing the impossible. A brilliant mix of fictional and real history as explained in the Authors notes.
Totally engaging and entertaining from first to last page, with plenty of action, throw Mrs. Sharpe into the mix and this is unputdownable.
Completely and utterly recommended.

A new Sharpe adventure following the tried and tested formula with only slight adherence to historical accuracy or in depth characterisation. Fans of this chronicle of books will remain enthralled by this gung-ho character who enjoys the loyalty and support of his comrades in the latest conflict between Spain and Portugal. An undemanding read that will satisfy the stalwarts with little recourse to extensive research or in depth characterisation. Many thanks to Author. Publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

I have read previous Sharpe books and this keeps up the trend.
Sharpe is sent to spy on an enemy bridge which allows contact between the Northern and Southern French armies in Spain as one of only two crossings across the Tagus. Along with Patrick Harper and members of the (5th he has to battle his way to victory.
The British army wants to invade Spain but General Hill wants to ensure the two French armies cannot support each other.
Another great read. Readers of earlier Sharpe novels with enjoy this as much as the others.

Another Sharpe !
Sheer delight and unputdownable as usual b ut not long enough like this review :)

A classic Sharpe story, back in the peninsula war. Again charged with delivering against the odds, our protaganist uses cunning and unorthodoxy to foil the French
