I've yet to meet a Jewell book I don't like.
This one maybe more so than most, because we know the characters spread.
Well, I say we know them, I have a memory like a sieve do can't remember much about the last book, but this sums it up perfectly when needed, without feeling like it's telling the whole tale again.
There's more mystery and intrigue, and reliving the horror or book 1.
It's a great stand alone, but also the icing on the cake to find out where the characters went.
I wonder if there's more bodies to dig up so we can have book 3?
Excellent as always.

I did not realize this book followed on from The Family Upstairs but it was very well written that you could read it as a stand alone novel.
Rachel Gold was my favorite Character along with Lucy. There characters really drew me in.
I could not wait for the next chapters they flowed so well that i almost forgot i was reading a book.

Thank you very much to Netgalley, Random House UK Cornerstone and Lisa Jewell for giving me this opportunity to read this much enjoyable advanced copy.

From The Family Upstairs to The Family Remains - 4 years between for this sequel. This is extremely jaw-dropping, goosebumping and gripping thriller. Everything is connected very well, well enough to make you shocked. All the newly added characters and existing characters, their moods have been changed, have grown up and so on. The intonation, the precise vocabularies used, the vividly scenery described sent chill down my spine.

The ending…definitely is a twist. And I wish I don’t have to wait for another 4 years for the next sequel. What will the next “The Family” series be - from The Family Upstairs to The Family Remains…maybe to The Family 2.0

A sequel to The Family Upstairs was a tough ask - with that book being so compelling with its unique story, but I feel like Lisa Jewell has done it with aplomb.

Of course the main story arc is very different this time round, it does a very good job of crossing the Ts, dotting the Is and adding some new characters and colour to parts of the first book that were pretty much subtext in that tale.

Lisa Jewell is a very impressive storyteller that I find quite unique in the mainstream. There's something about the way she leaves no stone unturned in her books that is rare for this kind of author. Usually you find something implausible in these kinds of books, but everything has its place in the story and you get answers. There isn't the usual attempt at constant subterfuge, it's just good old fashioned storytelling that keeps you gripped and wondering how it's going to end.

The more Lisa Jewell books I read, the more I am in awe of how somebody can keep churning out books that you can't put down. The Family Remains is a great follow up to The Family Upstairs, you get to revisit the characters from the first title, and you get to know how they've ended up after all the drama of their first adventure. Highly recommended.

The Family Remains is the sequel to The Family Upstairs, it gave me all the answers to the questions I had after reading the first book. To everyone who read the first book, you have to read the sequel as soon as it comes out. The book had multiple POVs and it had a new main character that added a layer of intrigue to this book.

The writing was impeccable and the tone of the book was witty and dark. It did debunk a lot of misconceptions that I had about certain characters in the book. Certain parts of the ending, I wish it was explained better. But that's just me being greedy and wanting too much. We get to read the POV of Rachel Rimmer, Michael's other wife.

I felt like Rachel's chapter brought a freshness in the book that had me flipping pages. The dark aspects of their marraige and the ultimate demise of it was interesting to read. All the plot holes were filled and tied off neatly by the end of the book. We also finally get to know more about Phin, who I was very curious to know more about. So overall, it was a fantastic sequel and definitely a great thriller.
