This was a very typical Mills and Boon book where it is heavily romance with a billionaire, and it’s very cliche, but I did think this was nice and I would definitely read some more from Milton Boon in the future, but this is very much a classic one of that books, where you’re not going to get a new age women’s rights, you’re not gonna get these things, they are very much older male bills or very masculine and take over
Failed to pick up any chemistry between the hero and heroine in this story, and the events all just happened to make the story move forward, and just didn't feel organic to the plot. Just, could not really believe in the romance here, let alone root for it.
Also, the 5-yr-old also spoke like a stilted adult at times, which made for a strange feeling throughout
When Clairey sees the daughter of a client being potentially mistreated she knows that she must stand up and say something even if it means she loses her job. When she does indeed lose her job she is cast adrift and not knowing what to do next decides to take up the offer of becoming a live in nanny for the little girl she has just spoken up for.
I enjoyed this book but did find at times it was frustrating when neither Drex or Clairey spoke up, it felt that a man in Drex's position wouldn't be lacking in the confidence to make his feelings known. Overall though this was a lovely story.
A perfectly paced and beautifully observed story... I really did race through Well written, with a plot and characters that haunt you long after you've finished.
Nice story with hea ending through the usual issues etc.
There just seems to be a small plotting problem I spotted in Drexel's background though. He mentions going through several foster homes growing up, but then talks about life with his father. And his gambling. But we start the story with his mother looking after Marnie. Which doesn't mesh, and she is not mentioned in his growing up.
Overall pleasant length and style although it takes to 70 % of the way through to get the drama and thus for me, this section could have been improved and lengthened.
I read this ARC for an honest review
All thoughts and opinions are mine
A sweet premise here rather than a hot, steamy read so if this is your cup of tea thats great
I did enjoy this and read in one sitting
This sweet romantic story has a Cinderella vibe, and if you accept that this is closer to a fairytale than reality, it is a good relaxing read.
After a rash but well-motivated attempt to stop a wedding, Clairey is out of a job. Drex is used to clearing up after his younger brother, but now he has responsibility for his young niece and needs help. Clairey and Drex, both victims of a troubled upbringing, are attracted to the other on many levels, and their emotional connection is as strong as their physical attraction. Still, neither sees it, causing conflict in their fledgeling relationship.
Clairey seems very accepting, always falling in with Drex's plans, but she is motivated by her love for him and his niece. Drex is under pressure from his vast business empire and unwilling to pursue his attraction and feelings for Clairey as he is her boss. Still, eventually, after much heart-searching, he realises he loves her.
This book is an escapist romantic story between two likeable protagonists who deserve their happy-ever-after.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and Mills and Boon in return for an honest review.
Sorry but this wasn’t my cup of tea. It was entirely incredible and utterly boring. Which bits annoyed me?
1.The heroine’s attempt to stop a wedding,
2. her sacking without notice
3. The groom giving up his daughter to his brother when he gave into his bride’s ultimatum
4. The brother (aka the hero), who went by the tongue twisting name of Drexel Osaman)
5. the hero’s employing the heroine as nanny, then faking an engagement, then a marriage for reasons which are too boring to repeat.
6 Heroine who fell in love at first glance and then became doormat.
7. No sexual tension, no chemistry ……
I could go on but I won’t. I finished it because I’d received the ARC but I didn’t enjoy it one bit. The blurb sounded interesting but the execution was banal, sentimentalised and boring. Sorry!
Great take on the man finds himself unexpectedly a ‘parent’/ boss and the nanny trope. I loved Clairey at the start when she rushed everything for little Marnie. Thought she became a little passive in places though. Great romance but more sweet than hot.
I would like to thank Netgalley, Mills and Boon and Nina Singh for the E ARC of this book.
Clairey has her dream job in a hotel as a manger. However, a guest says things that Clairey knows she must speak out about and that doing so could possibly stop the biggest wedding at the hotel and she could lose her job. She does speak up, loses her job and finds herself face to face with the groom’s billionaire brother Drex.
Drex does not need the complications that Clairey has brought about but he needs her help. Can Clairey accept his proposal and can they both walk away with their hearts intact.
A really good storyline, I loved Clairey and that fact that she stood up for what she believed was right. You could feel the attraction between her and Drex, you could also understand his feelings about things that were happening. A book that let you see growth of both characters and a storyline that dealt with a subject that has not a lot of books deal with.
I would recommend this book and I will be reading more from this author.
A truly sweet workplace romance. Clairey stands up for Marnie, preventing her from having the unhappy childhood she herself had, but looses her job because of it. Drexel needs a nanny and she steps in, as they become closer a fake engagement becomes a fake marriage, until they both decide to communicate their true feelings. A nice clean read.
A cute cliche, of the nanny and the boss and a fake engagement. Drexel and Clairey both have feelings for each other and when Clairey makes a stand to support Drew’s niece, he notices her and offers her the role of nanny. A fake fiancé is needed for a business deal and no matter how much they hide it, their attraction burns through. The niece, Marney, is very sweet and the additions of kittens to the story obviously helps!
