I spent the whole book really hoping for a podcast to support it!
years ago some girls disappeared and Olivia is in town to cover the mystery for a podcast, hoping she'll find some extra clues to help make it a worthy listen. Instead she learns that people havent all dealt witht he loss, that people sometime suprise you and often you make friends in the strangest ways,
I really enjoyed this book, it was easy to get lost in each persons story and try to work out what really happened to the girls. Its a brilliant read but compulsive.
I never repeat the blurb. I was disappointed with this...very disjointed and none of the characters were in any way likeable. Not inspiring at all.
5 stars!! Wow!!
Claire Douglas is the Queen of thrillers. The girls who disappeared is an absolute masterpiece sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
The end of the first chapter gave me actual chills, I found I couldn't put it down after that. I was desperate to find out what happened and boy what a twist and they just kept coming. My brain is still processing what happened.
I would recommend this to everybody.
Wow! Claire’s books never fail to disappoint and this one is absolutely brilliant. From the atmospheric descriptions, the plots and the characters this book draws you in and keeps you hooked until the very end.
There are two stories being told and I will admit that I didn’t figure out the connection between the two until the end which just added a whole new depth to this amazing read.
Without a doubt I give this a five star rating.

What a plot
Kept me glued
With interesting characters and the array of twists and turns this is a must read
You won't be disappointed

Claire Douglas does it again. Another taught and suspenseful, mystery thriller. I had no idea where its story was headed. Amazing. Highly recommended.
This book revolves around a journalist, Jenna, who is gathering information for a podcast about an accident that happened twenty years ago. After a car crash involving four girls, three of them disappear and only the driver, Olivia, is left at the scene. What happened to the other three girls?
This book kept me guessing, and I loved the twist at the end. A very well written book with great character detail, set in a small village. I really enjoyed it.
The Girls Who Disappeared by Claire Douglas ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
20 years ago 3 young women mysteriously disappeared from a car crash and journalist Jenna is visiting the town on the anniversary in order to create a podcast, this coincides with local boy turned police officer being given the job of reopening the cold case and so they join forces to get to the bottom of what happened all those years ago.
This was a great page turner which I flew through in just a few days, I really liked the character of Jenna and was right with her in the dark and gloomy cabin in the woods (definitely not Centre Parcs!) trying to work out who she could trust.

Gosh! I thoroughly enjoyed this interesting, eerie tale about a BBC journalist who travels to a village to make a podcast about a strange car accident that left one young woman badly injured and her 3 passengers who mysteriously vanished. This is the 20th anniversary of the event and the village seems not to have moved on. There are suspicions of supernatural activities and the area is certainly spooky. However, the journalist is keen to uncover what truth she can and all whilst managing her own personal challenges.
Jenna, the journalist, is met by suspicion and hostility and as she progresses her investigation, these worsen and she realises she can trust no one.
It’s a well written ghostly mystery that maintains and builds suspense throughout and I loved it.
Thanks to NetGalley and Michael Joseph Penguin Random House for the opportunity to preview in exchange for my honest review.
In 1998, 3 girls vanish from the scene of a car accident leaving Olivia trapped in the driver’s seat with no knowledge of what happened.
Forward twenty years and we meet Jenna, reporter with her own issues, struggling to find the truth in a small town where everyone seems to have something to hide.
There are stone circles, a forest, a soothsayer and beautiful holiday cabins. And a town of secrets and death.
I read this over two days, enjoying it a lot and whilst I suspected, the full reveal was fab!
My trouble with it revolves around Jenna’s repetitive telling of her breaking marriage and the ex. I felt her constant thoughts of home, husband and her son irrelevant to the story. A couple of asides indicating they were on her mind would have sufficed.
That said, I will definitely read more by Claire Douglas.
Thanks to Netgalley and Michael Joseph, Penguin for providing this E- ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Some books have a really good mysterious set up but then disappoint by not actually having enough of a plot to satisfy beyond the set up, but this book is different from that. Four girls are in an accident and three of them disappear never to be seen again, whilst the driver of the car is badly injured but survives. 20 years later a journalist comes to see what she can find out about what happened. It's full of red herrings, it's set in a village where everyone knows each other and where thr creepy forest and mysterious standing stones are the backdrop for weird events. There is also a second strand of story that finally makes you go 'Aah! I get it!' which is a satisfying moment. Its an easy read but the characterisation is good and you care about the two main female characters by the end. I enjoyed it a lot.
Jenna is a journalist and her latest task is to record an I pod regarding the mysterious disappearance of three girls who disappeared after a late night car accident twenty years ago! There was one survivor., the driver Olivia, she could hold the key to the mystery! However, Olivia is not keen to share her memories and Jenna’s powers of persuasion could get her into deep water! Well written with interesting characters and a nice little twist at the end! Did it blow my socks off? No! But I did enjoy it!
A pretty decent read with a few twists along the way, some of which
i saw coming, others I didn't. A car crash on a country lane twenty years ago
leave one girl seriously injured and three other missing. A journalist turns up in
the village to try and solve the mystery. What links all of this to a free luxury holiday
for a group of friends before the car crash. Can't possibly say, so you'll need to read it
Olivia was driving her friends home twenty years ago when she crashed. She blacked out but when she woke the three girls had disappeared and have never been seen again. With the 20th anniversary coming up a young journalist Jenna has arrived in town to make a podcast about the mystery. She is met with a lot of disapproval and suspicion but she meets a policeman, who has an interest in the case, and a friendship develops. Maybe they might solve the mystery after all this time?
I really enjoyed this story. The characters of Olivia and Jenna were interesting and I really became invested in their friendship. There is also a second story linked to Olivias story but it takes a while to see the connection and that added to the suspense. I always enjoy books from Claire Douglas and this is no exception.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for granting me an advance copy
Such a gripping book that kept me turning the pages wanting to know the outcome.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for an honest and unbiased opinion.
Twenty years ago, Olivia was in a car with her three best friends when she crashed. When she came round, her friends were missing and nobody has ever found out what happened to them. Now a journalist called Jenna is in town working on a podcast on the mystery and starts unravelling all kinds of secrets. A tense and interesting read, gripping the reader who needs to find out what happened all those years ago.
An engrossing, absorbing mystery thriller! Four teenage girls are headed home from a night out, driving along the creepy and aptly-named Devil's Corridor. The driver Olivia swerves to avoid a man in the road and crashes. When she comes back to consciousness, her friends have gone missing. Twenty years later as the anniversary of the event approaches, a cold case detective is investigating and a BBC journalist comes to the area to do a podcast. Her investigation is not welcome and she is threatened. Interspersed with chapters about the missing girls case is a seemingly unrelated story about friends on a the luxury trip of a lifetime to Thailand. It is hard to figure out the when, who and why of the Thailand chapters until the two stories ultimately intertwine. I loved this twisty, suspenseful tale and raced through it!
I loved this! Jenna is having a hard time at home, her husbands just told her he needs space, so when the opportunity to do a podcast about the mysterious disappearance of some young girls comes up she jumps at it!
Olivia is the only one left after she was in a crash with her friends, when she wakes up they're all gone! She's still not over it years later, so when Jenna turns up snooping, she's not happy!
Someone definitely doesn't want the truth uncovering as Jenna soon finds out!
This was such a good read, I couldn't put it down. Plenty of turns I didn't expect. I'd highly recommend it.
This story got off to an intriguing start and I thought I was in for a fabulous read. I was enthralled with the dual timelines (although I was very confused at times) and couldn’t wait to find out what had happened in the past. Obviously, everything fitted together in the end despite the numerous red herrings and twists and turns, but it was at the half way point that I began to lose interest. Some of the characters began to get on my nerves and the whole thing seemed to slow down and become far too complex. I was disappointed in the ending which, in my humble opinion, was too far-fetched. This was an OK read but not one that I could heartily recommend. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the advanced copy in return for an honest review.
Gripping storyline really keeping you wanting to read on. Brilliant plot and lots of characters to get you guessing what happened..... Thank you
