I have such a special place in my heart for the Rebel Girls books. Not only are they fun and interesting but they are also incredibly important. There is so much misogyny in the world and it's so refreshing for young ladies to have examples of strong females that are doing what they love and changing the world. It's important for young ladies to know that they can do anything they want and they can do it just as well or better than the men of the world. When I was a child the only jobs that were really talked about for women were being a mom, a teacher, or a nurse. No other jobs were even mentioned.
I love reading about all these strong girls and seeing the artwork by talented women and nonbinary artists. Each illustration is in a different style and are so beautiful. I highly recommend this book to girls of all ages.
Thank you Netgalley and Rebel Girls for allowing me to read a digital ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
love this series, cute new stories, awesome drawings! highly recommend to young people looking for inspiration in all aspects of life :)
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.
It is always a delight to review books like these. I love how young people have the chance to read books like these, which are full of diversity. Every child/young person reading this will have something and/or someone they relate to in these types of books and I’m so glad they exist
I'd like to own a copy of this book after reading inspirational stories from young girls all over the world, including Indonesia, my home country. I am both proud of them and envious of them because they are still young and have accomplished so much. I also like how accurate the illustrations depicting their profiles are in this book.
Once again the Rebel Girls has made a wonderful book full of short stories about amazing women. I like that some of the women represented in this book are current music artists as well as women that young girls will recognize. As always the illustrations are great, very colorful and eye catching. This is definitely a book that I will purchase to read to my little girls.
Thank you Netgalley for an ADC of this book for my unbiased review.
Another great installation of this series! I love the diversity of girls covered in this book. So many different fields and different countries of origin! Each of these stories is about 1 pg long with an accompanying picture, which does make each one a great good night story (or maybe multiple even).
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I bought a copy of the first one in the series for my younger sister and she DEVOURED it. she’s basically obsessed with it now so you already know i couldn’t resist checking this one out too, especially because this one features younger girls and women. Now what did i think of it ? Well it was pretty enjoyable to say the least !
The illustrations are gorgeous as per usual and the colors are always so vibrant i think it really suits the whole idea that this book wants to convey, which is to put it simply: express yourself in the way that you want and don’t be afraid to follow your passion no matter what other people might think of you.
I think it’s an extremely important thing to remind children of, especially young girls because we’re taught from a fairly young age that the only way we could be taken seriously is by toning down our femininity (but without doing it too much of course because God forbid a woman acts too “masculine” I mean where is the world going ? 🙄) So reminding them that you can choose to express yourself in whatever way you want and that it won’t necessarily impact negatively your future life was pretty refreshing !
[personal story : when i had to buy my stethoscope earlier this year, the first thing that i told myself was that there was no way i’d take a colorful one (*especially not a pink one*) and you know why ? because i thought - and that might be partially true - that getting a colorful one would make me seen as less professional and i didn’t want that because me being a woman was already disadvantageous enough 🙃 so you can imagine how impactful this message could be for so many little girls]
the concise biography format is pretty enjoyable but i wish it wasn’t so factual : it’s really easy to lose interest with all the dates and institutions (that younger people might not even have heard of) listed, and even though the book is made to be read like a bedtime story, so maybe one or two per day, i still think that it turned out to be almost boring at times.
i’d still recommend it and i think it would make an amazing educational but still pretty entertaining gift :)
Thank you very much to Netgalley for this ARC !
This has been my favourite Rebel Girls book so far! Whilst the other ones I have read were really interesting, this is the first time I have felt really inspired by the book, and that's because the women were relevant to today's issues and environment. It made it so much more impactful and I found myself looking up so many of the girls and women to find out more about them and follow them. I can see young children reading this and wanting to follow their future endeavours which is so important. This would be the first one I would buy for any child as I feel like it's so relevant and would give them the inspiration to follow their own dreams.
The cover is beautiful, fun, engaging colors! I feel like I would be drawn to picking it up at a bookstore!
I love the rebel girls and what they are trying to do for young people. I found many of the girls in this book I had never heard of before. It was great to have an opportunity to learn about many young, strong, determined girls I wasn’t already familiar with.
The illustrations are fun and unique. It was nice to see so many different artists lending their hand to the illustrations.
I Can’t wait to read this book when it is published. Highly recommend.
I must say I only read a few stories from this book, I’ coming later to the reason why.
Pros: The book looks very nice, I’m looking forward to seeing the book in the bookstore. I was fascinated of the cover of this book and wanted to take a look inside. The illustrations inside of the book and on the cover look very joyful. I found the information about the birthdate very helpful; you can see how young the girls are. The quotes are very inspirating. The stories are very short, so very young girls can read them.
Cons: I found some of the stories very dangerous. For example, the story of Rayssa Leal says that Rayssa went at the age of seven to learn one of the most difficult skateboarding tricks WITH A FRIEND who was supposed to film her. I really hope the little girls who read this story are not going to try this alone with some friend hoping they become famous! I also noticed in this story, that it is noted that on the skate park there were only boys skating. That sounds to me like a prejudice that is transmitted to young girls. A young girl would hardly notice that there are only boys on the skate park if all she wants to do is skating. She will notice how great the kids can skate, but not that there are only boys.
I only could read a few stories because the format I could download from NetGalley is very bad. I see on my screen two full pages, text and picture and the half from the next two. If I magnify the page I must scroll. That is a hard way to read, so I decided to stop reading.
My daughter and I have adored every iteration of the Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls. However, the focus in this book on current women and girls and their accomplishments kept my daughter highly engaged. She loved learning about people whom she recognized, and discovering others she had not heard of before. Books are powerful tools for teaching our girls to value themselves, their dreams, and their worth. This book does a phenomenal job of highlighting the grit and resilience each of these amazing girls and women displayed throughout their journey. I highly recommend you pick this up to share with the rebel girl in your life!
This is the first Rebel Girls book I’ve read. It was cute. Though I thought it was essays written by each person instead of just talking about each person. However, I did learn about new awesome women.
I love this series, reading each story of those who found their voice and a way to make their dreams come true. They didn't just make their life work but improved the world and inspired those around them and us today. From creative artists to nature protective, business owners, inventors, and volunteering projects, it's very inspiring.
I love that so many artists participated with different styles of portraits for each diverse story. Some of the stories are from well-known personalities and some are as young as the readers. This series is a must-have in the classroom and libraries.
Some stories include a QR code for extra info and awesome quotes.
Includes two blank pages so the reader can write and draw their story and portrait.
Thank you NetGalley for this arc ! I love the Rebel girl books ! And this one was really good it shows young people making a difference. I love the people they showed one here !
This was seriously everything I wanted and more in a book! I throughly enjoyed this children’s non fiction. As I work with children and teenagers mostly, I’m always on the look out to not only expand their reading within the fantasy and middle grade genre, but also non fiction. This was fun and sweet and seriously perfect for those looking to have children read books that go outside of fiction! 5/5 stars!
This is such a cute and inspiring book! It features small summaries of different important women and great artwork. I loved the diversity and there were even some people I didn’t know included, which was super fun because I learned some new things. Overall, I highly recommend this one, and I think it would spark some good discussion as well as provide new role models for kids
Good Night Stories features short, bite-sized stories of different women. The stories are inspiring and uplifting! I really enjoyed the bright accompanying pictures.
We own another edition of Rebel Girls, and my family loves reading a few of the stories before bed. So we were very excited for a new edition!
100 Inspiring Young Changemakers is just as fantastic as the previous books. Each one page story and beautiful portrait is engaging, interesting and fun.
I love reading these stories to my kids because I think the discussion and inspiration it provides is immeasurable.
We will definitely be purchasing a copy of this one for our shelves.
Thank you NetGalley and Rebel Girls for the digital ARC!
