This offer is hit or miss for me however this one was somewhere in the middle. I found that I was enjoying the storyline but at times it was moving too slowly for me. Some of the characters I did enjoy and some of them I found frustrating to read So this was a varied reading experience for me I’ll definitely pick up the next works and continue to read from them.
The narrator is unbelievable. The setting is very atmospheric. The characters can’t be trusted. The final twist was a big reveal. A fast paced suspenseful thriller
I always enjoy a Riley Sager thriller and this is no exception, I did not expect one little bit the way the story was going to go!
Another brilliant read by a very talented writer.
Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder&Stoughton for the arc of this book by Riley Sager
5 STARS- he does it yet again a really excellent book! thrilling compelling, gripping! highly recommend. love love love. if you have read his other books you will love this im sure!
I had mixed opinions about this and it took me a wee while to decide on my rating. However, I enjoyed reading it and - if silly at points - it was an absorbing read!
Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Such a page turner that I seriously couldn’t put down! I picked up a physical copy as I needed it for my bookshelf.
The author never disappoints and I can’t wait to read his upcoming release.
I was really enjoying this book, unreliable narrator, spying on Neighbours and some interesting characters, About 80% through in took a turn I wasn’t expecting and didn’t enjoy. It made a very enjoyable thriller into something a bit silly. This is my first Riley Sager book and I will definitely read another but this one was a little disappointing.
This was a good read apart from the supernatural parts, it was really enjoyable all the way through, until the ending which I didn’t like. The characters were good, the story was interesting and the style of writing was perfect. In my opinion the other books that I have read by this author were much preferred. I would recommend this to anyone who likes to read this genre.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.
I wish there was some kind of warning when books were going to take this specific turn. I'm not a fan and i always end up feeling cheated. i won't say any more because spoilers! I have liked his other books so will keep reading.
I absolutely loved this book right up until it became very unrealistic and a little bit silly. The writing is great, the characters were interesting and the storyline was so intriguing but then it took a different turn and I really couldn’t take it seriously after that which I found so disappointing.
I’m still giving this 3⭐️ as I did really enjoy most of it and I still want to read what Riley Sager has to offer:
I binged this book in one day, it was so easy to read and I felt so invested that I just had to know what was going to happen. However, the last third (ish) of the book changed to a genre that doesn’t really work for me, especially when I sign up to read a mystery/thriller. Unfortunately this ruined the experience of reading the whole book for me and I just couldn’t get on board with what the author was trying to do here.
Casey Fletcher was a successful film and theatre star until her husband's death about a year ago, which had her turning to the bottle for comfort and to numb her pain.
Casey retreats from the press to her family's Lake House in Vermont. Armed with a pair of binoculars and several bottles of alcohol she passes the time watching Tom and Katherine Royce the glamorous couple who live across the lake.
Tom is a successful business man and Katherine a stunning former model. They give Casey plenty to focus on.
One day on the lake Casey stops Katherine from drowning and the two strike up a friendship, the closer they become Casey soon realises that the couples marriage is not as perfect as it seems.
When Katherine disappears Casey becomes consumed with finding out what happened to her.
This had me gripped from the start to the unexpected ending, which could be described as out of the ordinary, but was definitely entertaining and caught me by surprise.

A very dark and twisted novel. A definite page turner which will keep you guessing! Amy favourite book from this popular author.
A really enjoyable, well-written and fast paced thriller with a captivating storyline and a cast of well thought out characters. Lots of unpredictable twists kept me guessing and I read this in just a few sittings. Recommend!
A gripping tale of danger and mystery, this thriller's fast-paced narrative will leave you reeling and craving more just like me!!!
The House Across the Lake was one of my most anticipated reads of the year, as Riley Sager's books usually are, so I was thrilled to be invited to take part in the blog tour.
The unreliable female narrator with an unhealthy interest in the neighbours is a story you've heard before, right? Wrong. This book caught me off guard. I thought I'd worked it out but I was very wrong! The way that this book turns, and what makes it unique, is definitely a point that will make or break the book for a lot of readers, but for me it made it. It's very difficult to go into more detail without spoiling the book so all I'll say is Riley Sager has done it again and if you're a fan of his other books, you won't be disappointed with this one.
I love Riley’s writing and I couldn’t wait to get this book and devour it. Did I do that? No. Am I mad about it? Yes. I hate being a mood reader sometimes but I will read this soon maybe for summerween read-a-thon :) so it’s a soft dnf until a later date.
I don't even know where to start with this one...
It started off fairly typically for a book in the mystery/thriller genre with an alcoholic woman being nosy and spying on her neighbours. Unfortunately, it just spiraled into something so boring with a weird paranormal twist. I'm usually a big fan of paranormal stories but I really do feel that there was no need or place for it here.
A very meh read that ended up as a dud for me.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for sending me a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
This is a good book that took a surprising turn and ended up having a lot more to it than I first thought. This book has quite a slow start which I did find to be too long and my interest was waning, but then Sager throws in the plot twists and my interest and excitement peaked. The characters are flawed but believable and perfect for this book. A dark tale indeed.
Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for an advance copy.
Riley Saver’s books are on another level. Another fantastic read that I couldn’t put down. Thanks NetGalley for the Arc
