I ended up having to DNF this book. I’m so annoyed at myself, but I think I’m just in a reading slump.
I didn’t really feel any connection between the characters which I think made it harder for me to keep going with it.
I’ll probably give this another go, once I’m out of my slump but I’m not sure.
I’m gonna give this five stars, even though I wasn’t sure it deserved them all the time. But overall, I loved this story, Edie really made me smile, I simply adored her and her whole being. The author did so well on the details, the little things that made this a perfect read, there were a couple of bits it could have done with less detail and more story, but I honestly loved the whole thing. There was a sweetness to it, and there was just something about the story and who Edie ends up with, well that just made me smile and drop a tear as well. Special mention to Gloria as this wouldn’t be so amazing without her.
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
I requested this book because of the amount of great reviews it has and I'm so glad I did. This book completely surpassed my expectations in so many ways and I wish I already had the physical copy of it to put on my shelf!
A really lovely story with a unique concept, the idea of being aware of when you would meet your "one" is something I think a lot of people would want, but in reality it's far more complex than you think.
The author creates characters who draw you in, you're invested in them and want to see Edie find her love!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book.
This is the first book I have read by Hannah Orenstein and I look forward to reading more by her! I was intrigued by the blurb and was thrilled to receive an advanced copy.
This was an enjoyable read that followed the story of the Edie as she navigates love and relationships and what she believes when her grandmother has already predicted the exact date she will meet her soulmate. I enjoyed the character development and plot as this story and relationships developed. The characters were likeable and relatable.
This was a quick, enjoyable contemporary romance that I could not put down.
REVIEW ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
What if you knew exactly when you’d meet the love of your life?
I don’t read many romance books as I can find them quite samish but the tagline of this grabbed me straight away. Edie’s grandmother, Gloria, predicts the future. She knows exactly when her loved ones will meet her soulmates.
Edie is already in a committed relationship but breaks this off knowing that he is not the one from her grandmother’s prophecy.
When she meets Theo on the day that is predicted, she can’t help but feel that the prophecy is wrong and he isn’t the one for her.
I loved this book! The story was so different and I flew through it. It wasn’t predicable at all and definitely kept me guessing as to who Edie would end up with it. Bonus, I also learned about Jewish culture.
Definitely recommend picking it up on its publication day on 7th June.
Thanks @netgalley for this ARC, can’t wait to read more @hannahorens 🥰
Having read all of Hannah Orenstein’s novels, I’ve loved seeing her writing evolve and each book just gets better and better.
Following Hannah on Instagram makes me feel even closer to this book, having seen the whole writing process. You can also see which parts of the book were heavily influenced by Hannah’s own life, which I loved.
Edie’s relationship with her family was extremely heartwarming (and heart breaking at times) - and i loved how it was such a strong plot point.
I enjoyed following Edie’s journey to finding love, and the fact she knew what she wanted from life. I think the world needs more people who aren’t afraid to end things when they know it’s not working out, even when it’s hard.
Thank you NetGalley and Headline books for the ARC.
Thanks to NetGalley UK and Headline Eternal for sending me this advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
4,5* but I'm rounding up because I really liked the end of the story.
The story is about Eddie, who, based on a family prophecy, knows when she will meet The one. I thought the story's premise was fascinating because: first, it made me think how boring life would be if we knew exactly when we would meet the love of our life. We would never put any effort into relationships or life experiences; we wouldn't learn from mistakes or even try if we know that's not meant to be. I like that this is a topic in the book through other characters. Second, I was skeptical, thinking this book would be an instalove romance. Personally, I'm not too fond of instalove romance, because that's it. The two meet, and I feel like there is no more story. However, this didn't happen in this book, especially because the story goes way beyond the romance, and it's a lot about Edie and her strong relationship with her family.
Because the synopsis doesn't say much, I didn't know what to expect, and until 60%, I was still trying to guess what was leading up to, without knowing for certain. It is hard for someone who reads a lot of romance like me to be in a position where I can't tell who the main character will end up with. I like that the element of surprise kept me hooked on the book and trying to guess what would happen. The story brings a mix of emotions, and I enjoy seeing Edie changing and evolving, breaking up expectations she had for herself. "Meant to be mine" is more than a man-woman love story; it's about family love, and beyond that, it's about loving yourself.
I felt super drawn in, right front at the beginning. I thought that whole ‘predicted love’ idea was incredibly cool and something I haven't really heard of before. Overall though, without spoiling it, I'd say it was a lot more women's fiction than romance.
SOME SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT
GO AWAY WHILE YOU CAN
Also, while I loved the book and thought it was amazing, the ending irritated me to know end because it didn't have that tradition happily ever after I was hoping for(well, it did, but not with the love interest I had become so attached to).
I did love Bennet( I kind of saw it coming though, even before it became obvious that Theo and Edie wouldn't work out, he was always portrayed as a potential love interest) all through the story though, so the ending satisfied me a bit there, I was just overall a bit disappointed in Theo. Theo, you were my man for the first little bit, and then you just kind of fell off. Hard. disappointing. He wasn't a bad guy though. Not at all. He just wanted the RIGHT guy for darling Edie. But I suppose that was ultimately the point of the book, wasn't it? Edie's realisation and the taking over of her own life.
4 stars overall, and it was a gorgeous and mind altering thing to read!
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Meant To Be Mine by Hannah Orenstein through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine.
