I loved this book! The characters were fresh and funny. I loved the setting of the castle. It gave the Christmas season so much more flair. Xanthe was over the top. She added a bit of the ridiculous to the story that was fun. All the characters were just terrific adding such a layered depth to the book. I enjoyed this book very much. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
Who can beat a castle Christmas with a hunky author and many unexpected guests?! Well written and a fabulous setting, this book was a fabulous read curled up on my sofa as the nights have started drawing in.
I dont get why Izzy did not say she was the new owner when she first met Ross,
I also can not stand Izzy's mother, Xanthe, who bulldozes over Izzy at every turn.
It was hard to like Izzy as a character. She let everyone walk all over her and make decisions for her. She didnt have a lot of depth to her.
I wanted to like this one so much but it fell short for me
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Izzy is surprised to learn that she inherited a castle from her uncle. When she arrives their, she meets a guest who is living their courtesy of her mother. Izzy wants to have a bed and breakfast but understands that wil take alot of work. While staying their she is attracted to the house guest. This was a heart warming story.
I love this author and her books! This one adds to her collection! Loved the castle and the description of its grounds! Liked the fact Jason and Fliss make a cameo in this too. Ultimately it’s Izzy story and her romance with Ross. I love the fact Julie had introduced her next character for her next book in this too! Looking forward to reading more of Hattie story.
Sometimes you just need a Christmas book and this one was incredibly great. I loved all the cozy vibes for the holiday season!
A great romance with a quirky cast of characters and a beautiful setting. Izzy McBride inherits a castle and plans to open it as a hotel. After finishing a cookery course in Ireland she returns to the castle to find that her very over the top mum has already got the first booking - a family coming for Christmas and they appear to be quite demanding. Also there is a writer staying who just wants some peace and quiet…….
Although I did find this quite predictable it was thoroughly enjoyable and I couldn’t wait to find out if I was correct in my predictions! I liked the flow of the story and found the various events very believable. Thank you to Netgalley and One More Chapter for the opportunity to read this in return for an honest review
This is the first book I have read in this series and I will definitely look to read the rest.
Much to Izzy McBride’s surprise, she has inherited a castle in Scotland. With the help of her unconventional mother Xanthe, she is hoping to turn the castle into a bed and breakfast. But when Xanthe starts inviting all and sundry to stay, will Izzy’s plans go array?
A lighthearted fun festive story which was an easy and enjoyable read.
Christmas, relationships and romance- what more could you want.
A lovely story set in snowy Scottish highland castle with all the feel if Christmas.
I enjoyed this wonderful story! I definitely felt as if I was visiting a Scottish castle. I could envision the rooms and countryside while reading.
Izzy McBride’ great Uncle Bill willed Kinlochleven Caster to her! With the help of her unconventional mother she is trying to get it ready to be run as a specialty, luxury hotel.
The cast of characters are developed wonderfully and are varied in ages and personalities. That is something I always enjoy in story. A few characters from Ms. Caplin’s book, The Cosy Cottage in Ireland are in this book and it was a joy to read about them again.
Izzy’s mother is a free spirit, eccentric and sometimes outlandish. Personally, I loved this character, Xanthe. It showed so much of the type of person that Izzy is, to accept and cherish this woman (her mother) who could be so difficult to rein in at times.
This is book 9 in the Romantic Escapes series (10 book series). Each book can be read independently, although I am sure reading the entire series will give the reader a richer experience. I did not read the first few books in this series, but intend to go back and read them.
I want to thank HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for allowing me to read the advance reader copy, with no obligation to write a review. My review is written freely as a hobby, and is totally my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.
This is a cute book by a new (at least, to me) author, and one I'll be looking to see more from in the future. Scotland and the castle are their own characters within the story, each taking on a life of its own and contributing much to the story. There's a bit of a love triangle, but mostly good people who show that love, faith, and helping your fellow man are not forgotten. It takes all types to make the world go round -- and most of them are characters here!
This was a really good book. Izzy inherits a castle and is looking forward to moving in and starting renovations. She decided to turn it into a bed and breakfast where she can show case her cooking talents. Upon arriving she finds an unexpected guest that her Mom invited plus plans for a whole entourage at Christmas.
In between trying to get the castle ready for guests and trying to figure out Ross she’s really busy.
The castle is set in a lovely location and will make you want to book a visit. There’s romance and a bit of mystery in this page turner. It’s perfect holiday reading.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the early copy
Oh I do love Christmas. And I love a good Christmas novel. They take you to a place far from home, usually to a winter wonderland. And this novel did just that. I was taken to the beautiful Scottish Highlands where Izzy McBride inherited a Scottish Castle.
This is a delightful, romantic, fun book that drew me in and took me to a place I know I will never be. The setting was perfect, the characters were fun and quirky and the Christmas theme works perfectly. I wanted to be there and in a way I was.
A great book to transport you, enchant you and to make you smile. Loved it.
I loved this book. I love this author.
I've read this whole collection and this book does not disappoint.
I was swept away on a Scottish Christmas adventure.
Izzy is so lovely and I loved following her story while making her castle hotel dream a reality.
You really get to know the characters and then you are invested and will struggle to put the book down.
3.5 stars.
The Christmas Castle in Scotland, the story has a merry band of quirky , eccentric characters. I loved the ,whole rest of the, cast of characters more than the lead pair.
Loved it. A book full of Christmas, a castle, Christmas food and a snowy landscape. Izzy inherits a castle and her can do attitude helps her cope with her eccentric mother who thinks nothing of inviting people to,stay while expecting Izzy to cook for them all plus a roof that needs attention. I loved Izzy and wanted her to feel as happy as she made other people but I wasn’t sure about Ross and his hot and cold feelings. The Christmas lights, the Christmas trees and the love shown to Izzy by her friends made this a brilliant read.
Lovely feel good book to read. It was a joy to read. Lovely characters. Great plot. The book was charming. Very well written. I’d definitely recommend this book. Idyllic location that set the tone of the book to perfection. Perfect seasonal book to get you in the mood for the festive season.
Super festive treat, great castle and food descriptions. Snow, romance and a castle what more do you want in a Christmas novel. Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy
A castle to fix up, a handsome but grumpy author, and Christmas mischief are all in the cards for Izzy McBride. Izzy just inherited a castle in the Scottish Highlands from her uncle, but when she arrives to start fixing it up she finds that her mother has already rented out a room for an enigmatic thriller author who is seriously grumpy. Izzy isn’t prepared for this and she definitely isn’t prepared for her mother spending more money on decor than needed or renting out the castle for the holiday season without telling her. Now Izzy has her hands full trying to prep the castle to be ready to become a hotel but it doesn’t help that her mom keeps inviting more and more people and that Izzy has begun to have a crush on Ross, the writer, despite him constantly being hot and cold with her. One minute their kissing, the next he is ignoring her for days.... and then she suddenly runs into her ex, the one who made her realize that she shouldn’t have to keep putting herself down and keep trying to excuse the behavior of someone who doesn’t treat her right... yet her heart want Ross despite how he treats her. I have to say this had all the makings to be a cute holiday read but honestly I found myself constantly getting annoyed by Izzy letting her mom walk all over her and by her constantly telling herself she wont let Ross treat her like that but then immediately caving and honestly Ross was just not likable at all. He and Izzy had no chemistry and I do agree with Izzy, she deserves someone better. The romance resolution to their big fight was meh at best and I just didn’t see them as a couple. Honestly I would have rather the story focused on Izzy’s relationship with the people living in her castle and her finally growing a spine and talking it out with her mom. Overall, this just didn’t work for me as a cute Christmas rom com which sucks, but maybe it’ll work for you instead. Definitely give it a go this holiday season.
*Thanks Netgalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, One More Chapter for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
This is an outstanding book from the first page you get hooked you feel as if you are there in Scotland yourself with the lovely castle and the characters are brilliant and full of romance and Christmas.
Izzy inherited a castle in Scotland and dreams of running it as a bed and breakfast but when she arrives her mum is already there ms has rented a room out to a writer and he wants peace and quiet to finish his book and she didn’t realise how run down the castle is so will she be able to afford to put it right. Her mum has great ideas but she’s got a family coming for Christmas and they want the best of everything so she’s hoping to pull it off. She finds a young couple camping on her grounds and when they have a bad storm they ask to stay in the castle for the night and they end up doing jobs and staying to help out. Ross the writer starts talking with Izzy and they can both feel a spark and trying not to act on it as both have had bad break ups. Will Izzy be able to get everything ready for Christmas and will the snow effect things and will there be romance in the air or not.
Well worth more than five stars.
