Hex Appeal was entertaining and perfect for a quick read during October. I enjoyed the sass, the magic, the crazy house and side characters.

This book was…chaotic. The author tried to build a very detailed world within the pages, but it was a lot to process. We had witches, and ghosts, and humans, and a baby, and old houses with rules and changing rooms, witch hunters, time travel, horny plants, and a future-knitter. Half of these pieces would have made for a better story because each could have been better developed. I enjoyed parts of this but skimmed others.

I’d be interested to read more from this series because there were some very likable characters.

I received an advanced copy. All thoughts are my own.

This book sounded so great but unfortunately it didn't work for me. I nearly DNF it many times but eventually got through it. I hate to say it, but I found it very boring.

I'm definitely in the minority with my negative opinion so if it sounds of interest, you should check it out.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from One More Chapter through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you, One More Chapter.

This was such a fun book to read at this time of year. It’s cute, cosy, full of interesting characters and the witchy vibes were just perfect. Witches who fly on actual broomsticks? Yes, please!

I absolutely loved the premise, and found myself laughing out loud at so many situations within the book. The fact Josh couldn’t work out what had happened to the house made for so many entertaining moments - especially during his interactions with Essie! The romance was very cute also, and I enjoyed watching Josh and Essie fall for each other despite the strange circumstances!

Overall, this was an adorable spooky season read and really got me in the Halloween spirit. If you’re looking for a wonderfully witchy romance full of quirky and intriguing characters I’d definitely recommend picking this up!

Thank you so much to One More Chapter, Harper Collins UK and NetGalley for this review copy. 😊

Hex Appeal captured my attention initially. However, I did have trouble getting into the story after the 35% mark. I’ll average about half a chapter each day. While I did enjoy the banter between the characters. I wasn’t invested in the romance. The timeline was a bit too fast paced for me. However, I believe this story would be a great light read for Halloween/spooky season. The atmosphere and witchy setting was well written.

This was a super cute book and perfect for spooky season for those who don’t want too spooky! It was a fun witchy romance with some (mostly) closed door heat. I really enjoyed it.

What a perfect read for #SpookySeason! The Hex Appeal was fun, entertaining and while I was surprised by the depth it went into with world building and the witch history plot, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s easy to follow, and packs a lot of adventure for a 300ish page book. Plus, the Bedlam House gives major Encanto vibes.
Highly recommend if you’re looking for a fast paced, magical adventure.
Thank you HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for the digital book in exchange for an honest review.

Hex appeal is the perfect light and fun spooky season read. At first the story felt a bit flat, but as the action ramps up and the characters find themselves travelling back in time, I found myself more and more invested in the plot. I struggled with the actual romance part of the book, but really enjoyed the historical themes and the witchy plot. Overall, a cute read that is perfect for fall!

I think the description for this was spot on. Encanto and Hocus Pocus vibes are super prevalent and I thoroughly enjoyed that type of mixup. I really enjoyed the mix of characters and the different uses of magic each one of them did. I thought it brought a lot of vibrancy and a lot of fun to the story. I also really like the romance I think it wasn't too cheesy and it felt well developed.
I would definitely recommend this for someone looking for a nice witchy or Halloween read. Very fun and entertaining.

Thank you for this advance copy of The Hex Appeal. The fact this book is about Witches is perfect for me. Its my sort of vibe and I always find comfort in reading a book containing magic.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters, I loved the family dynamics, the fact the book is inclusive for gender neutral roles. It was fab but one thing I will say, this book is CHAOTIC! It's the only reason i rated this book 4 stars instead of 5. There were parts of the story/dialouge where I felt a bit lost and it was hard to keep concentrating on the flow of the text. I had to reread a few parts of the book to make sure i understood what was happening. The author writes in a style where I feel she leaves some happenings up to the imagination, kind of like, she thinks we would or should know the characters thought process or what is happening. Hence where i had to reread certain parts as I was certain i'd missed parts.

I still really enjoyed the storty in spite of this and I liked that it didn't go in the direction I thought it was going to. If anthing, I felt this book had three parts as there semmed to be three little stories going on that linked together by a certain evil charcter. He shall not be named.

Perfect book for spooky season!

Essie Winterscale is a witch who resents being a witch, especially her affinity for bringing things to a subzero temperature. Josh Henderson a lawyer in Seattle with a toxic girlfriend, up until the point where his dad left him a house in a tiny village in Essex that would change his life. Josh discovers Essie, the world of witchcraft, and dark family secrets upon arriving in Essex as the landlord of half the town, including Essies house. I’ve never read anything by Kate Johnson before so I’m not sure how this measures against her other books but I really did love her writing style here. This book is super fun and cute for when you’re in the mood for something witchy but don’t want full on “A discovery of witches” vibes. The whole coven of Beldam House is very charming and if this were made into a series about each of the witches I would absolutely devour it.

Thank you to the publisher and author for the advanced reading copy of Hex Appeal, receipt of which did not impact my review.

Hex Appeal follows Josh Henderson and Essie, after Josh moves to town from the US after he inherits a house in England. Unbeknownst to Josh, Essie and her family are witches and he’s going to forget ever meeting them — but for some reason, Josh is immune to some of their charms and spells. Their attraction to each other grows as the book goes on, but is there something amiss that could tear them apart?

I enjoyed Hex Appeal and think that others would if they liked books like The Ex Hex and The Kiss Curse. I did feel the plot at the beginning and the intro to all the various characters was a bit slow, but it picked up the pace around 50%.

This is a fun witchy romance from UK and you don’t want to miss it.

✨ Strangers to lovers
✨ An enchanted house
✨ Time travel
✨ A family curse
✨ Magical animals, plants and people
✨ Found family

This book captured me from the first few chapters & wouldn’t let go. What I thought was just going to be a fun romance with witchy elements turned into a time traveling magical mysterious adventure and I couldn’t turn pages fast enough. Essie & Josh are the witchy pair to beat all witchy pairs this spooky season.

Thank you to One More Chapter & Harper Collins UK for the ARC.

Brilliant. Second book I've read by Kate Johnson, fantastic descriptions that build a world within your mind which you can clearly imagine and immerse yourself in. The story was gripping and pulled you in from the beginning, I couldn't put it down.

In Hex Appeal we follow witch Essie, who lives in a small Essex village with her coven in Beldam House, a house with a mind of its own. Everything is fine until Josh turns up, an American who has just inherited a house and is now landlord to half the properties in the village, including Beldam House, and they haven't paid rent for over 300 years.

This book was such a fun and light-hearted read, a perfect spooky season witchy romance that I couldn't put down.

Thank you to Harper Collins and Net Galley for the chance to read Hex Appeal.

This book was the perfect read for "spooky" season. I was immediately drawn in from the get-go. I could not put this book down until I finished it. I would venture to say that this is a must read for anyone who is looking for the ideal autumn/Halloween read.
