This book is filled with some really lovely patterns, and whilst it is aimed at the Christmas market, there are also some patterns for things that can be used, or gifted, all year round.
There’s a really useful glossary of the crochet terms and their meanings, as well as covering the different crochet needle sizes.
I would have given 5 stars, but for the fact that I thought it was confusing to have the images at the end of the patterns rather than at the beginning, which is usually the case.
Overall this is a good book and I would recommend it.
My thanks to the author, the publisher and to NetGalley for gifting me this arc and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book has some lovely ideas for things to make for Christmas. I loved the pictures and the instructions were clear. A great crafting book.
I thought this was a brilliant book, I can’t wait to start some of these idea’s.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
A great book for any skill level of crafter. The patterns are new, original and compelling enough to have you picking up a hook and jumping right in. With excellent pictures and instructional patterns, this book should be in your craft library.
Really cute design ideas, and good level of teachable knowledge. Again struggled to download which negatively impacted my enjoyment. could only read on the netgalley app, which isn't ideal for me.
Will definitely be getting some yarn in and having a practice
I have been on the lookout for an interesting crochet book for my son, who just learnt and is interested in amigurumi. This book is perfect for him because it goes from the basics up, with translation between US and UK terms right at the front, but also has great designs.
I hope to make some myself- the orange slices first, I think. The real ones I dry end up in drinks rather than on garlands.
I also love the look of the fairisle hat.
The photographs are very clear.
Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who likes making little plushies or holiday decorations.
This book is packed with cute figures and designs to fill your home at Christmas.
The book has a detail written description of all of the stitches you will need to crochet these designs. There's aren't pictures to accompany the instructions on how to crochet but with YouTube and the books instructions it's easy to follow.
A beginner could definitely attempt the patterns.
This got approved a bit late for Christmas this year but I’ll have to remember to try it out next year!
Thank you to Netgalley, Lindsey Newns, and HarperCollins UK, Nonfiction, HarperCollins for providing me with a free copy for an honest review!
The book contains a nice variety of projects from a chunky wreath to reusable crackers to hats to cute amigurumi. In the beginning, the used stitches are explained. As a beginner, I would have appreciated some additional pictures to better understand the explained techniques. The style of projects varies a lot (from boho to romantic to plain). On the one hand, this means that you will for sure find a project that suits your taste. On the other hand, it also means that there are some projects that I will not try for sure.
Fabulous book with something for everyone!
Clear concise instructions to follow, I cannot wait to get started on some ready to fill my home this Christmas.
This is a lovely crochet book filled with fun Christmas projects. I especially love the orange slice garland which is going to be all over my house and tree next year. There is a full glossary of stitches and teniques so it's good for beginingers, but the book could benefit from more demonstrative pictures.
Crocheters will love this book of Christmas patterns. It lacks photos of how to do the stitches, but personally I think these are of little value to the new crocheter and better taught in video or in person. The patterns seem well thought out and accompanying photos were a good thing to include. Basic stitches and crochet to more advanced intasaria and fair isle are included. Great book!
The items described are simple and suitable for a beginner. However, there are no photo’s or illustrations of basic crochet stitches and techniques (this might be because this was a pre publication copy). Never too early to start making things for next Christmas.
Towards the end of 2022 I decided to pick up another hobby and learn how to crochet. I've been able to knit for years but I just couldn't get my head around how to crochet for a little while, but now I know the basics, I've wanted to try out some new designs and this book was a great way to do just that.
I loved the photos, they really helped me to understand what the finished item should look like and the instructions were really clear and concise.
I liked that a glossary of UK & US terms, conversion charts, stitches and techniques were all included too so if I got confused at any point, I could go back and double check.
There's something for everyone in this book, no matter what your skill level is.
*Thank you to @netgalley and the author for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review
A nice little book with a good variety of handcraft projects, easy and fun tings to make for both beginners and more advanced knitters/chrocheers
I loved reading or rather using this book. It's a great introduction to crochet. I've never been able to master the technique before but after looking at this book and reading the instructions in conjunction with the pictures, I feel I could make a positive start. I'm sure the patterns will inspire more experienced people in crochet.
I was offered this book as an ARC via NetGalley and as a keen crafter I am always interested to see what new designs people have come up with. This book covers a broad spectrum of techniques from basic crochet to the more complex fair isle crochet which will give it some longevity as your skills improve and you want to take on more challenging projects. I haven't tried the patterns yet but found the string of vintage style lights adorable and am keen to make up a string of those. The reusable Christmas crackers are also a good idea. The book does outline and explain all the techniques required for the projects but in my experience it can be helpful to either have pictures that show each stage to help a beginner to understand. That said, there are plenty of videos and additional resources available via a search online once you know the name of the stitch you want to learn. I did find it odd that the images of the completed projects were at the end of the instructions rather than before as seeing the finished items can inspire you to try something that you may not have considered from the description alone but this is probably me being picky.
All I want for Christmas is Yarn by Lindsey Newns is a delightful collection of holiday-themed crochet patterns. The patterns are easy to follow and the book is full of fun, festive ideas. Whether you're a seasoned crocheter or just starting out, there's something for everyone in this book.
One of the things I loved most about All I want for Christmas is Yarn was the variety of patterns. From an advent calendar to cute Christmas decorations, there's something for every skill level and taste. The patterns are clearly written and easy to follow, making it a great choice for crocheters of all experience levels.
The book is also full of beautiful photographs that really bring the patterns to life. It's easy to see how the finished projects will look and get inspired to start crocheting.
Overall, I would give All I want for Christmas is Yarn 4 out of 5 stars. It's a great addition to any crocheter's library and a perfect way to get into the holiday spirit.
Lovely book with loads of ideas for crochet decorations and gifts. The creations are modern and fun, quirky and cute, and the instructions are really clear and easy to follow. If you’ve not crocheted at all before these projects may be a bit daunting but after watching some YouTube videos and practising a bit they can be tackled.
Great useful guide to the main stitches at the front of the book which is so helpful to refer to.
I loved the raffia paper chain, and the fluffy tree skirt and I’ve also made the luxe elf hat!!
Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me read an advance copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
I’m such a beginner crocheter and this is going to take me time to get through but I am definitely starting on these in the New Year ready for next Christmas. Some amazing patterns and ideas which will be amazing….for next year. The directions and instructions are nice and simple and the pictures throughout are so good. A great set of patterns.
