I really enjoyed this angsty romance. It had so much depth and emotion to it. The characters were swoony. The epilogue was sweet.
After binge reading some of Winter Renshaw's backlist, I quickly came to read this one because I just needed more . I have quickly become a fan of Renshaw's writing, but this one didn't quite hit like her other books did. Definitely a little bit slower paced, but I still enjoyed it overall. I loved that they both communicated pretty well and it was refreshing to see MCs talk things out for once, so that was a major win. I'm so happy to have Winter on my reading radar because you can bet I'll be going through the rest of her backlist!
I love the versatility of Winter Renshaw’s writing. She’s not retelling the same storyline or genre with each book. Love and Kerosene is another example of how she carefully crafts words into a lovely story and satisfying ending.
“You’re not just some story, Annelise. You’re a whole damn novel.” Gah. All the feels.
To burn or to re-build, Love and Kerosene.
Angst is Author Winter Renshaw’s specialty, and so is a deep-dive into her character’s psyche. In her new release, LOVE AND KEROSENE, there is nothing about our hero Lachlan that is surface level only, and it’s his chosen family who call him on his intent for the house that is central to the book plot. It holds a heart-breaking past and he wants to raze those memories to the ground. His major obstacle? One lovely lady called Annaliese who suffered the benefits of his brother’s betrayal, and neither it seems, will have an opportunity to redress the past
He wants to burn it all to the ground and put the ashes of his past in the rear-view mirror, while she wants to recoup her losses by renovating a beautiful home for a family who will build a future in it. One perpetrator of betrayals, two victims, and two different intents for the house that forces them together.
Lachlan is a gypsy, a traveller who will never settle and is aloof to those outside of his small circle of trust. He’s also a jack-of-all-trades, and in spite of his family history, an honourable man.
Annaliese in contrast, falls in love too quickly, too hard, trusts too easily.
I love when an author creates a point of difference in their books, and in LOVE AND KEROSENE, the chapters began with obscure words and their meanings. This wasn’t a random initiative by any means, and made the book more poignant. I’ll own that when I came across “phosphenes (n.) the colors or “stars” you see when rubbing your eyes” I knew exactly what that was, and had to do it test it out anyway 🤪 I’ll also admit, that I learned more than a few new words!
What an amazing book full of all the feels that a contemporary romance must have for me to fully enjoy it. The angst, loss, betrayal with a smidgeon of suspense, love, healing and most of all acceptance.
Ms Renshaw is a must-read author for me, and one is never enough. I’ll probably head off and start doing a re-read of some of my old favourites. And I definitely have to say that LOVE AND KEROSENE is another 5-Star read 💖🔥🖤°
I loved this story, it was a brothers ex type story. The tension and the little bit of forbidden was perfect. I loved seeing both characters open up… and it was definitely intriguing in a way only winter Renshaw can
Love and Kerosene is a beautifully written slow-burn romance. It's full of some brilliant moments and the story has heavy layers which gets disclosed slowly.
Highly Recommend. A Great Story with lovable protagonists.
I really liked this one. I thought Anneliese and Lachlan were good together and for one another! This one was different and the characters were unique. I enjoyed it a lot and it was so refreshing to read about characters that weren't just cookie cutters of other romance books or even Winter's previous books. This one had a few slow moments, but I honestly was so engrossed in the story that it didn't bother me at all. I highly enjoy Winter's books and this one was great! I can't wait to read more from her in the future!
Lives that were forever damaged until love set them free. An absolutely amazing story that you will never forget.
Lachlan is looking at burning the home which he hopes takes away all of the bad memories with the fire, yet when Annelise shows up who was his brother's finance wants to rebuild it he goes against his better judgment and agrees. What worries him is that he is falling in love with his dead brother Finace and that scares him along with being happy. Anneliese goodness just keeps after him to where he must decide whether or not he wants to be happy. A good book with good characters.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I thought this book had potential through the first few chapters; however, once I got into it, I didn't care for the romantic parts, as they seemed forced.
While I found the initial portion of the book enjoyable, I felt the absence of palpable chemistry between the main characters hindered my engagement with their romance. I typically don't fixate on the steaminess of a romance novel, but the multiple hints at potential intimate moments followed by a fade-to-black scene felt like a letdown. It left me wanting more and left the romance feeling less satisfying. Regrettably, this book didn't quite meet my expectations.
Spectacularly delicious! Loved it and it was saucy! I highly recommend. You will not be able to put this down! I’m serious devoured like my favorite bowl of ice cream
I absolutely loved this story from the first page to the last! Winter Renshaw is one amazing writer that never disappoints!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! No spoilers. Beyond amazing I enjoyed this book so very much. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to. Truly Amazing and appreciated the whole story. This is going to be a must read for many many readers. Maybe even a book club pick. I just reviewed Love and Kerosene by Winter Renshaw. Our library purchased and our patrons have been checking out and and enjoying the book. I see it is a popular book club choice as well we hope to have more oppurtinies to support authors like Winter Renshaw
Such a touching and unique story! Winter has always had the ability to write unique love stories to catch your your heart and mind, you just can’t get enough! Love, and Kerosene isn’t any different… Anneliese and Lachlan are two halves of one whole, hot and spicy book!
Despite the second chance romance trope not being my favourite trope in the world, this book was still thoroughly enjoyable. Annalise and Lachlan are such a cute couple!
***4 Stars***
I thought this book was going to be an angsty read filled with all kinds of push/pull between Anneliese and Lachlan, and while there was a little, their story played out quite differently than I expected and quite frankly, I enjoyed every minute of it. Anneliese is sweet, but determined. She doesn’t back down, but also knows when help is needed. Lachlan is running from his past and has done a really good job at keeping people at arms length ~ and then some ~ but once he lets his guard down, well, there is a goodness there that lures you in.
Their journey to their HEA did not start off well and was definitely unique in quite a few aspects, but I liked how they found that they actually clicked on all levels and that while neither wanted to be in a committed relationship, they found that not having each other in their lives wasn’t what they wanted either.
As I said at the start, this was a surprise in a lot of ways. It isn’t as drama filled as I thought it would be and it was definitely on the sweeter side of the coin, though the chemistry was intense. There were somethings that made me go…hhhmmm, but in the end, this was a fun read. Great supporting characters ~ Flo and Lynnette were a hoot and I wouldn’t be opposed to more Bryce or Berlin in the future.

Although I enjoyed the first 20% or so of this book, I really feel like the lack of sexual tension between the main characters hindered any investment in their romance. I'm also not one to obsess over the spice level of a romance novel, BUT I don't appreciate numerous allusions to potential sexual encounters only for a fade-to-black scene to be the payoff. It feels like such a disappointment and waste of my time. Unfortunately, this book was not for me.
Winter Renshaw just draws you in with her storylines. Annaliese and Lachlan are great character studies.
If you want all the feels in 1 book this is it!!! WR always has me coming back and wanting more. This book was worth the wait. The slow burn between Lachlan and Annalise was one for the books. What they had to go through was worth finding finding their happy ever after that they both deserve! And the heat was just BEAUTIFUL 😍 😉
