Winnie spends three weeks in London for her job as assistant to a playwright, and her boss’ nephew quickly catches her eye and she is sorely tempted by him, even though said boss forbids her from going after him. Winnie is torn between everything she wants - Liam, to finish writing her play, to do a good job for her boss - and she must find a way to achieve it all.
This is a quick, fun read, with lots of witty banter between shameless extrovert Winnie and charming but awkward Liam - their relationship is sweet and funny and sparking with chemistry. It skirts a little too close to instalove for my personal taste: I think I would have been able to fall into their attraction without getting hung up on how quickly it happens, except it’s constantly brought up by the character, how they’ve only known each other a week, how they only have three weeks together. (they don’t actually profess love during their initial whirlwind romance, but it still feels Very Quick.)
The rest of the cast is interesting, though it’s Ollie, the spaniel Winnie accidentally acquires, that steal the show. The story is heartwarming, lovely and perfect for summer, a light romcom that still brings some depth (one scene even managed to make me cry, in the best way.)
Sometimes I just need a fun, fast read in between some more weighty tomes, and Here For The Drama is just that. A romcom set in the world of theatre, the book follows Winnie, assistant to famous playwright Juliette as they travel from New York to London to oversee a pop-up production of one of Juliette’s plays. Winnie is an aspiring playwright herself and trying to finish her own play in time for a competition deadline; with Juliette struggling to come up with new ideas she persuades Winnie to go on a series of dates, hoping it will provide material for her next work. The only person off limits for some reason is Juliette’s nephew Liam, but with an instant spark they decide not to let this stop them, and they secretly go on a series of dates around London.
I loved Winnie and Liam’s developing relationship, and there was plenty of banter between the two which can’t fail to make you smile. There is also some depth to the story as we learn the backstory for several of the characters, all of whom have their own issues, and we see Winnie grow as she learns to put herself first and stand up for what she wants. Add in the cutest rescue dog, Ollie who almost steals the show throughout the book and this is a fun, heartwarming read that I flew through - the perfect summer read.
This unfortunately a DNF for myself. I really wanted to try and love the book and be interested in the plot but it just did not capture my attention and the characters were kind of dull. The main characters are okay but nothing special, the boss is just constantly complaining and it gets a bit tiresome after reading it page after page. I couldn't really follow the plot and didn't really understand what was going on and I was a bit confused by the sub plot like Winnie and the dog.
It is unfortunate as I had heard good things about this author and her other book is actually on my amazon wishlist so it was disappointing to read this and it just fell flat.
This book definitely brings drama and lots of it. Have lots of tissues on hand as Winnie travels across the pond with her boss for a life changing performance for everyone. Winnie and Liam have beautiful and easy chemistry and I just love their sweet relationship and humour. A fabulous read!
A lovely light hearted rom-com. Some of the references were a little Americanised which you would only notice if you're British, but otherwise the pace, development and story is engaging and captivating
This was a fun and enjoyable read. Parts of it felt fairly generic but other parts were so good they really stood out. It’s definitely a solid and enjoyable novel
This was a fun read, Winnie provides some great comedy and you definitely route for Liam and her to find their happily ever after. This book had more substance to its characters and sub plots than most romances which totally immersed you into the story so I sped through the whole thing.
A few niggly things about Liam who is English but seems to be more American than he should.
The theatre and screenplay writing dragged at times but I think is probably also a bit to do with me not being as interested.
Whilst I do like a HEA I dislike when it feels like the last chapter or two are just written to tie up loose ends and put a pretty bow on it and say it’s finished.
Overall though worth the read!
I really enjoyed this book, it was so much fun.
Such an easy read, and included all things London and all things theatre - my absolute fav things - and even a cute dog!!
I haven't read anything by Kate Bromley before but I certainly will be reading her back catalogue now.
It's light, it's funny and a good palate cleanser, or even a good one to get you out of a book slump.
Thank you to Bonnier Books UK Zaffre & Netgalley for the opportunity to review this ARC.
I loved Kate’s first book, Talk Bookish to Me & was so happy to see this “sequel” starring a character from that book!
I really enjoyed the banter between the MC’s, the secret romance trope & the side stories featured in the book (Cassie was there for like 5 mins & I was tearing up!). The featured romance was very cute & how the relationship panned out felt really natural compared to some romance books!
My only slight issue was that I felt that Winnie & Liam’s (& at times some of the other side characters) personalities seemed quite similar & overly saccharine & although I appreciate this book is written by I believe an American author, there a couple of tiny things a Brit would notice as being out of place (like Liam wearing an undershirt actually under a suit shirt).
Overall an enjoyable drama filled rom-com!
Here for the drama is theatre themed so would be perfect for people who love a good play or musical. Winne is a personal assistant to a famous ans renowned playwrite Juliette. Throughout this book you follow Winnie trying to follow her own dreams of being a play writer whilst trying to juggle her professional and personal friendship with Juliette, whilst having growing feelings for Juliette’s nephew Liam.
I loved how Winnie's and Liam's relationship starts out with lots of banter and flirting between them both and I found the last half of the book addicting with lots of twists I didn't expect !
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
Winnie who wants to playwright, at the moment she is working as an assistant to Juliette. when they hear that a company wants to put on a play of Juliette in London, their bags are packed and they leave for London.
Winnie so wants Juliette to read what she’s written and tell her what she thinks of it. Juliette informs her that she will look at it, if Winnie goes on dates with men for her so that she can get some creativity from her.
But, what either of them didn’t think would happen was Winnie liking Liam, Juliette’s Nephew.
A fun and addictive read, I loved it.
This book follows Winnie, who is an assistant to famous playwright Juliette Brassard. We follow Winnie to London and all the drama she encounters along the way.
I absolutely loved this. I adored Talk Bookish to Me and now Kate Bromley has done it again. This is a very different vibe to her debut novel but I love the premise and everything about it.
Winnie was a headstrong character who just needed that push around certain people, which I'm sure we've all experienced before. Liam was a British sweetheart who instantly makes you swoon from the first few chapters.
I also really loved the growth we get to witness in this book, it is a real stand out component for me.
I loved it and rated it 4.5 stars!!!
Wittily Sweet…
Winnie D’Angelo thinks she might just be about to get her big break at last. Off with mentor Juliette to stage her play in London will surely throw her into the spotlight too. Won’t it? When Winnie meets Liam sparks might fly, but will the show go on? Wittily sweet and charming romcom with a well crafted cast and a snippy narrative make for a delightful and ditzy read.
Cute romantic comedy that’s based in the theatre world. I loved the relationship between Liam and Winnie. Another great read from Kate Bromley!
I liked Talk Bookish to me....I LOVED Here for the Drama! The characters were lovely (we all need a Roshni in our lives), the theatre scenes were so well written and I adored the romance - 5 stars from me!
