What a fantastic uplifting book! It is clear that the author has walked the streets and lived and breathed the sights of Rome which she describes with such passion. The whole city came alive for me as I explored it in the footsteps of Kate, newly arrived and keen to discover the fate of the Italian girl of 2 centuries ago, whose portrait has hung in her family home all her life. A story full of romance, friendship, and new beginnings after being so badly let down by a man she thought she could trust, I loved seeing Kate's journey towards her new life and was so pleased to find such an unexpected but satisfying ending for the long-ago Charlotte too.
I received an ARC of, Rome for the Summer. What a lovely story, summertime in Rome. Kate is a great character, Gabe not so much. A very enjoyable read.
I absolutely loved this book. The cunning dual time line was very well done. Charlotte’s story set 200 years earlier, was linked with Kate’s story in 2016. Kate is betrayed by her boyfriend Gabe so moves to work at The English House in Rome. The links between Charlotte, Kate and other characters in the book are deftly woven together by the author who magically evokes a sense of Rome which is totally authentic.
Kate meets the artist in residence, Jamie, and he shows her round Rome and we watch the slow development of their romance. The characters in this book are beautifully developed. I found the ending somewhat fast and abrupt and I would have liked more focus on Kate and Jamie in the last few chapters. However, I still loved it.
This is the best of escapist romance and I highly recommend it. 4 stars. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review and my thoughts are my own.
Loved it. It had so much, a deceitful boyfriend, a beautiful love story, a 200 hundred year mystery and beautiful descriptions of Rome. And the best ending. Fantastic read
