Wow, I've not read or listened to a a book by Alice Feeney before so this was a first and it definitely wont be the last. I raced trough this audio book and enjoyed every minute.

Daisy Darker and her dysfunctional family have all gone to visit their Grandmother at Sea Glass, her eccentric Cornish house on a tidal island for her 80th birthday. When the tide is in, its completely cut off, and family members die one by one. What a brilliant location and so well described by Feeney, the characters were all so different and I loved them all. None of the family want to be there and all have reasons for disliking each other, Nana seems to be the only thing holding the family together, until she is found dead. someone is trying to kill them all, who will be next and why?

It really is a great whodunnit? I can easily see this being made into a movie or short tv series and would love to see which actors get chosen for the different parts as the characters are all so well described with such very different personalities..

A big thank you to Macmillan UK Audio for approving me to listen to the audio version on this book which was beautifully narrated by Stephanie Racine.

I will definitely be reading more by Alice Feeney - a fantastic book.

There are very familiar echoes of Agatha Chrisie's "And Then There Were None".(set on an island off the coast of Devon). Seaglass is an old, dilapidated house, owned by the grandmother of the Darker family, which sits on its own private island off the coast of Cornwall. Grandmother is a children's author and illustrator, and several years ago she had her palm read where she discovered that she would not live beyond her 80th birthday. And here she is, gathering together her family members, who haven't been under the same roof for over a decade in order to celebrate her 80th birthday. They arrive one after the other, before the island's causeway disappears under the sea for up to 12 hours. Attending are the three Darker sisters, their separated parents, a niece and a local young friend, who spent considerable time with the girls when they were on their Summer break with their grandmother.  The disparate group of revellers (!) are cut off and someone starts a killing spree. It is also Halloween to add an extra frisson to the narrative.

The story is told pretty much through Daisy's eyes. She is the youngest of  the three sisters, all of whom are named after flowers. Daisy was born with a serious heart condition and has technically died on several occasions but medical interventions have always been summoned. She is frail  but she is shrewd as she observes her family dynamics and the unfolding drama.

As the bodies mount up, the party has to contend with shifting familial relationships, and with strategically placed video cassettes that appear out of nowhere, followed up by a deluge of poems, penned to highlight the misdemeanours and flaws of different family members. Frankly, none of the individuals are particularly likeable, so when one after the other gets bumped off, it's a bit of a shoulder shrug from the reader. The author clearly had fun imbuing her characters with their idiosyncraticies.

The nub of the novel is to find out who is behind the killings and it all becomes clear, with a good twist towards the end.

The Cornwall setting is one of sea and storm, the waves pounding and the skies glowering with storm (not sure there would be moonlight to assist the occupants of Seaglass during a pounding storm, never mind, it all adds a bit of frisson and atmosphere to the story).

If there is one thing I know about starting an Alice Feeney book is that I will adore her storytelling. I simply love the way she writes. Daisy's story is divided between the present and the past & the flashbacks all manage to create intrigue and suspicion. It was a bit of a slow burn but it sucked me in nevertheless, keeping me intrigued the whole way through and I reaaaaally wanted to know whodunnit and why! The narrator of the audiobook was fantastic as well.
The story has big nods to Agatha Christie (which I actually really enjoyed!!) and even though it was a bit predictable villain-wise, it was super enjoyable and captivating. I loved the twist and the resolution. My only complaint would be, that sadly, it's been done before, so it didn't impact me as much as I would have liked. Still, I'm so in love with Alice's writing that it didn't take away from my enjoyment. Daisy Darker was another wonderfully entertaining story that I can't wait for everyone to read.

Alice Feeney books never fail to amaze me.
She is the master of twisty psychological thrillers and this one is no exception.
I loved the plot, I loved hoe everything unfolded and I loved THAT twist.
Very delicious and highly recommend.

A new book script arrives from a well known author, as the story is told you understand why it was written, one final book. The Darker family are very dark indeed, a family return to their grandmothers isolated home for a gathering. Reminiscing over past events and happy times spent at grandmothers house are talked about. The characters of all the family members are well described and you get to like your favourites and also understand Grandmothers favourites and why. During the visit one of the family is found dead, the tide has come in so they are cut off from land and also no phone coverage so the family hunker down and wait for low tide to fetch help. Then strange things start to happen, who is behind it? If you like a modern Agatha Christie whodunnit then you will enjoy this book. Thank you #NetGalley for the audiobook to review.

Everyone in the family has been invited to join Beatrice (Nana) Darker celebrate her upcoming 80th birthday, on October 31st. The celebration is to be held at her home on the island. There is time limited access to the island, but her family know this.

Narrated by Daisy Darker herself, she is also the first to arrive at her Nana’s house, closely followed by Frank Darker, Daisy’s father and Beatrice’s only child.

Nancy is no longer married to Daisy’s father, but she is a frequent visitor to the island, more so than Frank.

Daisy has two older sisters – Rose and Lily.
Lily has only has one daughter, Trixie.
Connor grew up around their home and as a result became part of the family.

There are lovely intricates written into the story that just gives depth to the family members, like Beatrice’s collection of 80 clocks, Nancy’s love of flowers and Trixie’s obsession with the colour pink.

For the first few chapters, I thought it was going to be a family story.

Purely by chance, I have just read 2 Alice Feeney books back-to-back. Again, I was convinced I knew the ending of this book (as I thought the last), and just sat back to enjoy her storytelling, but goodness me, I wasn’t even partially on the right path.

The story feels both familiar and unexpected. The events, both past and present gives us moments of pause, then hurtles us into the next one.

I won’t spoil the story for the Ms Feeney’s readers, but needless to say they are in for a great treat.

Alice Feeney has quite easily become one of the top 5 authors to that I will always buy/read all of their works and their back catalogues.

I would also like to thank Stephanie Racine for her wonderful narration. Her acting skills along with the storyline caught my attention from the very start of the novel.

I would like to thank #NetGalley and Macmillan UK Audio for the opportunity of reading this advanced copy of #DaisyDarker in exchange for my own honest review. This book is due for release on August 18, 2022.

I’m not sure what it was about this book that I wasn’t a massive fan of, but it could have been the unexpected supernatural element to it. I didn’t expect the twist, but I tend to prefer more logical explanations to thrillers than the supernatural. I did fly through this book and I did enjoy it, but just didn’t feel like that part of it was for me.

Wow what a listen! This was gripping, intense and completely shocking. I did not know who to trust and questioned everyone's motives on more than one occasion. Daisy's family were truly messed up and as we learnt more about their past the more I could understand Daisy's resentment towards them. Rose and Lily were particularly cruel to her and I couldn't imagine treating any of my sister's in that way.

When the big reveal happened I was utterly speechless! It was a twist I didn't see coming and could not believe what I had just learnt.

Daisy Darker is set in on an isolated island in Cornwall. Daisy and her family are invited to the island by her Nana to celebrate her 80th birthday, who is convinced that this will be her last birthday after a fortune teller told her she would never make it past 80. They family thought this would be like any other birthday celebration and gather at the house. But as the tide comes in, and the clocks strike midnight strange things start happening to the family members and one by one they end up dying.

This is a well written book, although a little slow to start, it soon becomes a gripping read with some exciting twists. I’m not going to say too much but I definitely didn’t see the twist at the end coming!! The story is narrated by Daisy and alternates between past and present times, which was easy to follow.

The characters are well fleshed out however I must admit most of them are unlikeable. Saying that still manage to find a couple of favourites and those were the stars of the book Daisy and her Nana. I really felt for Daisy especially as we learn about her difficult childhood because of her heart condition. I could really relate to her character and the difficulties she faced growing up. Nana sounds really cool although a very strange lady. She has 80 clocks hanging on her wall and she makes everyone clock in and out when they visit and she always dresses in favourite colours pink and purple.

I was lucky enough to listen to the audiobook on NetGalley and it was great. The narrator Stephanie Racine has done a fantastic job in making this book come to life. She got the tone perfect in all the right places.

Daisy Darker is a fun yet gripping read and one I ending up loving!!

This may have only been the second book I’ve read by Alice Feeney but having loved both this one and Rock Paper Scissors it definitely won't be the last, I can’t wait to pick up more!!

Really enjoyed this one!! The narrator and audiobook was spot on.

We follow Daisy who is going to reunite with her rather horrible family at their Nana’s 80th birthday. They all meet at her home with is on an isolated piece of land that is cut off from the mainland when the tide is high.

At midnight someone dies….

Definitely some Agatha Christie vibes and a plot twist that had me questioning everything! Fab thriller .

Daisy Darker you beaut. This was a cute lil bundle of a murder mystery. Everything you'd want in a whodunit. With me Angela Lansbury specs I dived right into the fun Halloweeny, costal, murder mystery.

The setting is beautiful and so well suited to the storyline, I wanna live in a house like Seaglass one day. The tidal causeway was perfect (kinda like @ellerylloyd_author The Club in terms of a location).

The characters were literally to die for, a really rich, well thought out interesting bunch. I duno why but the mix of them reminded me of more grown up Bedknobs and Broomsticks characters, with hints of the movie Knives Out. The 80s references were spot on and the nostalgic mentions of shops, tv shows, games worked perfectly.

I guessed "the biggie" in chapter 5 (although i could have easily missed it right until the ending) and chatted to @andshe.reads about our theories as we went.

Daisy Darker is such a refreshing fun book, it's edge of ya seat gripping, but not too dark as to be terrifying, just the right level of scarey. And the cover, who isn't gona love that, no one that's who.

I listened to it on @netgalley and it was super easy, the narrator is a mint match for the story, that sinister tone creeping in just at the right points.

It's one of my fave stories of the year. And it's a 5 star, 100% yes reccomendation from moi! @alicewriterland hit the ball outa the scary Halloween park. Bangin', just bangin.

Beautifully written and captivating, this is a wonderfully cosy British Murder Mystery, the characters are well rounded and authentic, I absolutely loved Nanna's character to bits. This would make a brilliant summer read and I truly cannot wait to look for more work from this author!

Stephanie Racine is an excellent and engaging narrator as always. I really love her narration style so for me this story, with this specific narrator was fantastic. I might even listen to it again.

Really good audio book. The narrator is easy to listen to and helps immerse you into the story. Who is Daisy Darker? Really enjoyed the family interactions and back story. Alice Feeney books are great, each one so different in their own way.

Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney, yet another successful domestic thriller.
Set in Cornwall on Halloween, the Darker family are reuniting as Nana is turning 80, but a fortune teller once told her she would never see past 80, so the reunion could be their last. Daisy, along with her two sisters, mum, dad and niece complete the family but when the tide comes in, and the clocks strike 12, the killings being and the secrets come out.

Told from Daisy's point of view a very gripping tale ensues of a very sad family never caring about each other, always been driven by self interest. Interspersed with a bit of Christie style killing, can they work out who's behind all this murder before they all sucum?

A great cast of ugly characters, the father, a musician who carries on with his performance when his youngest daughter is taken to hospital for emergency heart surgery I can't imagine being that self centered. The sisters are no better, bullying Daisy as she is 4 years younger. My favourite is Nana, she is very wise and has crazy menu choices, I wish I could have gone round for Halloween tea, just not this year!

I felt the book flowed well with flashbacks from when the sisters were younger neatly fitting around the present situation intensified with ever hour.

Overall, a great thriller, I listened to it at every opportunity desperate to find out who the killer was. 5*

I really, really enjoyed this deliciously dark mystery which is beautifully written. and intricately plotted. It read like a cross between Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None and a fairy tale. The setting of a gothic house on an island which is cut off by the tides was brilliantly atmospheric. The characters were all well fleshed out but mostly unlikeable. I did like Daisy though and really felt for her after reading about her heart condition and difficult childhood. I loved the creepy nursery rhymes written in chalk and the 80 clocks. It's difficult to say much more without giving too much away but wow I did not see that twist coming at the end!!! One of my favourite books so far this year!

I loved the narration by Stephanie Racine, which made an excellent book even better!

Great mystery, totally unpredicted & highly recommended.

Daisy Darker is an interesting psychological thriller. The Darker family are picked off one by one while at their paternal grandma’s house which is cut off by high tide. Each member is killed in a different way while a cryptic poem is left about them.
I found the storyline effective at creating a claustrophobic atmosphere, but the twist at the end was quite obvious from very early on. This didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the book, but I did find the ending quite unbelievable. I also found the lilt of the narrator’s voice irritating and difficult to hear at times without turning up the volume.

I really loved this one- more twisty and even creepier than what I had come to expect from this author! Twisted kids are always a hit. Loved the narrator

This is a review of the audiobook version of this book.

Wow, what a great story, superbly narrated!

At the beginning this just sounds like, albeit incredibly good, an inspired story by ‘And then there were none’ but oh my word as the ending reveals itself I was totally thrown!

I loved it so much that I think I now also want to read it!

Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan UK Audio for letting me review this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Daisy Darker - Alice Feeney

I absolutely loved it! Once the truth was found, everything else fell into place. A sad story that’s well written and I recommend to everyone.

“Sometimes we love monsters without knowing that’s what they are.”

Love the authors notes at the end too. Thank you. 👏
