Karen Clarke is the author of a novel called My Husband's Secret. It is a book that every fan of suspense thrillers should own.
Caitlin Garvey kept a secret from her husband, Jack, that caused him to walk out of their marriage one year ago. Jack hated being lied to, and Caitlin knew it. During this year, Jack met Lydia and her sixteen-year-old son, Matt. His father, William, passed away from heart failure while he was out running.
Despite Owen Whittaker's attempts to date Caitlin, she still loved her husband and hoped he would return one day. She then received a phone call from the hospital informing her that Jack had been in a hit-and-run accident. He suffers from amnesia because of a head injury, a few broken ribs, and an ankle. Despite Jack having amnesia, remembering his contact number for Caitlin is a mystery. Why did he want her to come and fetch him from the hospital? It was unknown to him what reactions this decision would cause.
I was intrigued and glued to my seat until I reached the end of My Husband's Secret. It was fascinating to watch the plot unfold in this book. Karen Clarke is a brilliant author, and I am looking forward to reading more of her work in the future. I found this novel well-edited and would recommend it to everyone without hesitation. It deserves a five-out-of-five-star rating from me. Congratulations.
Thank you, NetGalley and HQ Publishers, for providing me the opportunity to review this novel.
Caitlin collects her husband from hospital after a hit and run accident, to find he has no memory of the accident and is unaware that they were no longer living together. Meanwhile, Lydia is anxious for her partner to come home, worrying about the negative effect his absence is having on her teenage son...
A riveting, relationship based thriller narrated by the two women, each hiding some past experiences which have brought them to their current dilemma. A cast of strongly drawn supporting characters and twists and turns of the plot make for a thoroughly entertaining read.
This book got off to a good start for me but then after about 25% it seemed to drag slightly and I began to lose interest unfortunately.
For me personally I felt as though it was more of a family drama rather than a psychological thriller and I couldn't really get to liking the characters. I did persevere with the book but was slightly relieved when I had got to the end.
Thank you to Netgalley and HQ Digital for this ARC.
I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review
This book took so many turns I had no idea what was going to happen, and the ending was a real surprise. A better than average thriller- 3.5 rounded up
My Husband's Secret sees Caitlin look after her husband Jack after he is involved in an accident, except that they aren't together anymore! Jack suffers from amnesia and can't rememer they were separated a year ago, let alone the fact that he is now in love with his new partner, Lydia!
This book was very dark and the twist was quite a surprise. I enjoyed that it was written from both Caitlin's and Lydia's POV, as it offered some light into their stories.
The book was a very easy read, I finished it in two sittings. Although this is not really a rarity nowadays, I don't think I've read a book like this before (and I read a lot of domestic thrillers)! I really enjoyed Karen Clarke's writing. I am very intrigued by this author now and will definitely check out her other books.

Disclosure: I would like to thank the publisher and author for my advanced review copy of the book. This is my honest review
Dark and twisting, I enjoyed this thriller. It was well written and kept me guessing throughout. I liked the premise of Jack’s amnesia but whilst he couldn’t remember, it was the secrets of the other characters that made the story so gripping.
This wasn't the typical book I would choose to pick up and read, but I liked it all the more for that reason.
It evolved slowly, as I learned (or so I thought) about the characters: Lydia was definitely an obsessive, possesive person who had problems; Jack lost his memory, so his character remained hidden for some time; Caitlin lied from the beginning and Matt - or Mattie as his mum called him - was in the middle of a twisted web of lies and deceit.
I really enjoyed reading this book and found it very difficult to put it down. Highly recrecommended!
Jack is involved in a hit and run. On awakening he is found to be suffering from amnesia, and has no recollection of the accident or the previous months. He asks the hospital to contact his wife, Caitlin, she collects him and takes him home.
The premise of this story was good and at first I did think it an ok read, if a little slow, with very shallow characters. The plot became more unbelievable as it went along, with some odd references that had little or no bearing on the storyline. The title is very poor and also misleading, as it’s another character who has secrets, though most of the players have one or two. To be promoted as a thriller is a misnomer, it’s a drama with a few twists, most of them pretty obvious.
A pretty average read, with little to recommend.
2.5* rounded to 3*.
Thank you NetGalley.
The idea behind the book was a good one but unfortunately I found it quite a hard read, as it wasn't particularly well-written and the characters were all rather unbelievable. I could see it working on TV though.
Well written with a compelling plot and well developed characters. I liked that the book was told from the point of view of different characters and it was tiwsty and unpredictable. I read it quickly.
I love the cover is what caught my attention. The story was ok. It is full of different point of views from different characters. Lots of drama than thriller. It is a story that belongs on Lifetime tv. Some parts were slow but picks up.
This was the first book I have read by Karen Clarke, and I’m happy to say that I enjoyed it. I always like a book with multiple POV’s, such as this one. I loved the twists, suspense, and the ending was unexpected. The author has a nice writing style. I felt the story flowed smoothly. I would definitely recommend My Husbands Secret to others. Thank you NetGallay and also the publisher for this ARC. I’m very appreciative!
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, HQ and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
Great characters, decent mystery, easy to guess the twist but still enjoyable.
Caitlin gets a call from the hospital to say that her husband, Jack, has been in a hit and run accident. She collects him, and finds that he has lost his memory, and has no idea that they have been separated for a whole year.
Meanwhile, his new partner, Lydia, is looking for him, and finds that he is living with Caitlin, and she is determined to win her man back.
This story unfolds little by little, and you realise that the world is not as it seems.
Warning, if you are triggered by Gender Based Violence, this book will make you feel uncomfortable.
I enjoyed the book, although I found that it was a bit slow for my liking. I was not wholly gripped from the beginning. The characters, to me, were not believable, they were a bit hollow and I did not feel that there were many 'thrills' in the thriller. Also, it did not seem as though the husband had a secret, the secret belonged to another character.
Thank you to the publishers and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
A solid four star read. Good premise. Great characters. Enjoyed the style of writing. Plenty of mystery to keep me interested. I guessed the twist hence the four star review. Definitely look forward to her next offering. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it
Thank you HQ, NetGalley and Karen Clarke for giving me the opportunity to read My Husband’s Secrets. In return I will give my honest opinion of this book.
I’m when browsing, I was drawn to the cover. A beach, check, a pink dress, check. The word “secret” in the title, you’ve got me.
Caitlin’s husband Jack has been in a nasty hit and run accident and returns home. I have been reading so many books lately where the heroine wakes up with memory loss, so this is a nice change for once. The problem is, Jack does not remember recent events, not even their separation at first. Coincidence or on purpose? Then there is Jack’s other “family”, - forgotten - and Caitlin’s “friend” Owen, who does not quite get the hint.
The book is written from multiple point of views, Caitlin’s POV and Lydia’s. I do prefer a book written from first person POV. It starts really slow and feels more like a family drama rather than thriller at first. It picks up at some point and I actually enjoyed reading it. The ending was not quite unexpected, but I found it nicely done. The wheel was not invented again, but I was entertained and that’s all I ask for.
This was my first book by Karen Clark and I found myself enjoying her style of writing. I will definitely pick up some of her other books!
I was invested in this book on the first page. It literally drew me in immediately and my attention never waned. Classic thriller with a dynamic main character!
I really, really enjoyed this book! It hooked me from the very beginning and kept me hooked the entire time.
