A super cute book for young children interested in learning more about rocks. Would be an amazing book to have to teach the Rocks and Minerals unit at school (Ontario curriculum.) Of course, I also think it is an amazing book to have at home as there are lots of great activities to do on a weekend outdoors.
This is an interactive and eye catching non fiction book based on rocks, ideal to be used in the classroom or for children with an interest in science or more specifically rocks.
The format of the book is well presented with easy to read fonts, colours and variations on information presented in child friendly ways.
Detailed information on different rock types and formations as well as clearly labelled pictures to help identify rocks.
Really liked the engagement activities which can further prompt children to further their learning as well as enthusiasm.
We absolutely love @storeypub ‘s upcoming book Backpack Explorer: Rock Hunt. It is the perfect book for educational lessons, helping you offer both crafts and information about rocks, rocks types, their formation and identification. It is packed with excellent images, lots of great detail and really provides a brilliant book for young ones to ask questions and find a true interest in rocks and the geology around them. We highly recommend adding this book to your collection, for fun and education. We were provided this book via NetGalley to honestly review. #BackpackExplorerRockHunt #NetGalley
This was so adorable! As a kid I loved to collect rocks and even dreamed for a while of becoming a geologist. I think this book would have been one I ADORED when I was younger. It has a good mix of information, images and also interactive activities.
It could also be good as a refreshed for adults like me who used to be big rock collectors. Some of the information in the book were things I didn't know/or didn't remember. I also like how the connected rock collecting and exploring to more broad subjects and more local/everyday subjects like chalk for a chalk board.
Overall I think this is a great book for kids who either are into rock collecting or maybe want to get into it. I could also see this book being great to gift to a child going on a road trip or camping trip. It does a good job at making rock collecting "cool" and fun by framing it as an adventure.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I read this book with my eight-year-old niece, who is obsessed with rocks, and she really liked it.
Found this book very educational. Most kids (and some adults) just consider a rock as a rock and nothing more. Besides most kids collect rocks and wonder what kind they are without really knowing where to get more reliable information that is geared towards younger kids like what is contained in the book.
Really was surprised that the book has interactive suggestions for immersing the kids into geology; with a combination of the stickers, games, and other ways to really showcase the uniqueness of each rock. This is a parents answer to their kids’ inquisitiveness.
I received an advanced reader copy for free from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review
Rock Hunt is perfect for your young science and nature lover. My five year old would absolutely love this book and the magnifying glass that is included. The illustrations and diagrams are clear and colorful. The text is written in a way that encourages the reader to make observations of the rocks around them. Filled with suggested activities and ideas for exploration, this book has an interactive feel to it. The activities suggested are easy enough that they could likely be done independently and don’t require extra materials. The book was more comprehensive and detailed than I expected it to be without being too complicated. My only complaint is that the book seems to end somewhat abruptly. A final page encouraging readers to keep exploring would make it seem more complete. Perhaps an index could also be added. Overall I would buy this for my science-loving elementary kiddo.
I thought that this book was absolutely brilliant!
It is a brilliant resource for children all about rocks – it uses photographs and illustrations throughout and it is a really detailed and informative book
I liked the layout for the book and the fact sections were brilliant
At the end of the book is a sticker section where children can take the sticker off to add it to the right page when they have found a specific type of rock – a fun book to use at the beach or on a trip out in nature for the day - it is really fun and interactive
It is 5 stars from me for this one – very highly recommended!
An interesting title to nibble on!
During a walk in the mountains, or a class lesson, it is a book that is interesting to offer an apprenticeship in geology to the youngest. I would recommend it, especially to teachers who could pick up ideas for activities in the pages!
In short, an educational, fun, and interesting title belonging to a collection in which I will look! ^^
I'm not very outdoorsy or geology-lover but this book was a great resource to learn more about rocks. Some kids in my classroom would love and it will be a great addition to the curriculum. I'll recommend it!
My daughter and I had so much fun reading this book together, especially as we both love rocks and crystals. We have our own collections, which we love.
The book is amazing, and we both loved it a lot. It goes into detail about how to find rocks and pebbles, what we can do with them once we find them, and how we can collect crystals. There are lots of beautiful images and photographs in the book, which are bright and colourful. The whole book is fantastic, and it is filled with so much knowledge and information.
I highly recommend this book to all children and adults, and I think this is a book which should be in every school and library. It would also make the perfect gift!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.
This book is a nice introduction to rock hunting and geology for children.
The illustrations and pictures are bright and inviting. They convey a real sense of excitement and adventure.
The instructions, activities, and information is perfect for young children and is bound to start a life-long interest! ….. or at least I hope it will, as I might have ordered my child (read myself) a physical copy of this book, as I enjoy learning about this too!
Well worth it if you children show any interest in rocks already or if you want to get your children into it. (too)
This is a really interesting non-fiction book that introduces children to geology and minerals etc in a really child-friendly way - because who hasn't had a child pick up a dozen rocks whilst out on a walk?!
Educational, interactive and full of fascinating facts - what's not to like?!
**Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read an advanced e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own **
This is a great non fiction book with lots of interesting factoids about rocks, minerals, and outside things. I liked how there are activities to engage kids and I think this will peak the interest of lots of kids.
Great book on rocks and minerals! Good educational tool. Love how interactive this book is and ways to look for rocks.
"Backpack Explorer: Rock Hunt" is a necessary addition to any school and public library. It's the perfect book for the budding geologist or rock hobbyist and encourages children to go outside and explore. The book is informative without being overly dense or feeling like a textbook.
is a super fun book that has so much potential for fun days out looking at geology and teaching children and parents about the rock cycle, different types of rocks and crystals alongside a bunch of fun activities.
Its a lovely mix between illustrations and photographs to demostrate what you're looking for when you're looking for rocks and crystals with a bunch of fun facts throughout.
I read this with my five year old daughter - she found the book really interesting and learned a lot! She also really enjoyed carrying out the different activities suggested throughout the book. We live on the coast, so having little investigations to do at different beaches was really fun for her.
This is a great nonfiction book for any young rock enthusiast! Easy to read, easy to follow, easy to enjoy!
I was really impressed with this book! It is loaded with many activities and great visuals. I can't wait to learn with my kids on our many adventures :)
