A cute story about a witch and her two dogs that help around her community. Nice illustrations and fun read with or for your children

This book tells the story of H, a little witch who helps save the day when a thief takes toys from an orphanage. The messages sent in this story include: working together, spreading love and kindness and the importance of empathy. It is a fun book that I think any fairytale/fantasy lover will enjoy and is fairly easy to follow and understand. The font is fairly accessible, and large enough. Writing is set on a small blank white background imposed on top of beautiful and detailed pictures in a way that does not hinder either the viewing or reading on that page. The pictures are fun and the characters are usually smiling, there is also a friendship between H and some of her animal friends. I would definitely recommend this book to parents and teachers of children in the age 4-9 range. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book!

H is a good witch who lives in the woods with her Pappa and two dogs. She helps to protect the forest. But one day, someone steals the toys her Pappa has been working on for the nearby orphans. Can H figure out who stole them and save the day?

I enjoyed the overall message of this tale, which is the importance of kindness and empathy. The illustrations were colorful, and I liked the interesting style of them.

There were a few inconsistencies in the work. One of the characters was called Pappa throughout the entire work except for one place where he was called granddad. Some of the illustrations didn’t quite match with the story either. A deer is tangled in vines, but the vines look just like rope. There’s also an instance where H uses her magic against the dark witches, but instead it looks like she’s caught in their magic.

I also disliked that the two bad witches weren’t given names and were the only “ugly” illustrations in the book. Then, after they had a change of heart, they looked “beautiful,” with one of them gaining rounded, softer features and the other having fair skin and long, flowing hair. This was a poor choice – having a change of heart shouldn’t affect their skin color, hair, or sharp features, and is not a positive message to send to kids.

There were a few typos and errors throughout the text. The words also didn’t flow particularly well, which might make it awkward for reading aloud. There were several instances of run-on sentences, and many words were overutilized throughout the work.

This was a fine read if you’re not picky about some inconsistencies. I would recommend it undergo an editing though.

This was a great read. Lots of wonderful illustrations also, and we loved the dog sidekicks! The ending probably could have been summed up but we enjoyed really enjoyed it. Not sure is this is a series but it should be. Now I'm curious about the girl's family, etc.

An adorable story about the importance of empathy and helping animals. H is a witch who has two dog sidekicks. She goes around helping animals and other people as well. Very cute with illustrations reminiscent of more recent Disney princesses!

A sweet story of a good witch and her two dogs who help those in trouble.

H is a good witch who stays with her grandfather Pappa, and her pet dogs Pixel and Echo (who in turn has a pet lizard!) When H hears of anyone in trouble, she goes along with Pixel and Echo on her flying broomstick to provide assistance. There are two such adventures in this book – one where a deer’s antlers are caught in a tree, and one where all the toys go missing from the local orphanage.

The story focusses not just on how H solves the issue but also delivers a message about goodness, empathy, kindness, and other such virtues along the way. Having two adventures within a single book is a big plus point. The characters are all interesting. I just wish H had a different name. ‘H’ by itself looks so odd.

The illustrations are cute and colourful. But they don’t match the content at times. For instance, the vines that the deer was tangled in resembled ropes. On another page, when H is supposed to be using her magic to confront the dark witches (page 21), it looks exactly the other way around, as if she was the victim of the dark witches’ magic. All minor errors, but they take away from the experience, especially for younger children who rely heavily on the illustrations to make sense of what is being read to them. One thing I didn’t like at all was that after they turn good, one of the dark witches (who was green-skinned till then) is drawn with fair skin and beautiful long hair. What does a change of heart have to do with a change in skin colour? The other witch stays green, so I didn’t get this creative choice at all!

The language seemed a bit off. There is a fair amount of word repetition, which might have been a deliberate writing choice to emphasise words or to ensure they stay in kids’ memories. But the sentence construction is also awkward at times, with many run-on sentences and a few words in incorrect positions. I wonder if this is a translation gone awry, but there’s no note saying that it’s a translation, so I’m not sure.

Basically, it is a nice story with a great message. If you aren’t particular about the fiddly language and the mismatched illustrations on a few pages, you, along with your kids, would certainly enjoy this tale.

This book was very cute. I believe my daughter would love this. I liked the bright illustrations. It was not scary even though there were mean witches in the story. This books shows that helping others is the most important key to happiness. I would love to have the book own shelf.

Echo, Pixel, and H the Extraordinary Witch is a sweet story that shows doing good for others brings more happiness than taking. I loved the little dogs Pixel and Echo, and their travels with H. I liked the bright illustrations. It was not scary even though there were mean witches in the story. It was pretty lengthy- more of a long bed-time story.
