I love quilting books and this one was great, especially for inexperienced quilters. I have been quilting for 30 years but its easy to forget what its like to be a beginner. This book takes care of all that and is a great introduction to quilting.

One of the first-ever encyclopedias that my father invested in, one digital version and one physical one, was published by DK multimedia. The CD came with zooming-in functions that provided microscope-like views for certain objects. Absolutely fascinating stuff. I thought it would be interesting to see what they do with something like Quilting.
It was exactly what I expected. An in-depth introduction to Quilting as a hobby. Required items, simple suggestions and a few extras were thrown in as well. I have (semi-successfully) quilted before and know where my shortcomings lie, so this particular book did not help me much in that regard. It provides a simple and straightforward introduction to the topic with some examples, and people can proceed to the more whimsical and complex from this starting point.
As always, books like this are better as a physical copy than the digital one I read. Given that the craft is one that we work with our hands, the instructions are sometimes appreciated in that format as well( at least by me!).
I did not actually do any of the projects in the book and therefore do not have any associated photos that I could have attached to elaborate on my point. It is definitely a book for people interested or curious about the practice of Quilting.
I received this book as an ARC thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the review is entirely based on my own reading.

I really enjoyed this book, I found it helpful and clear. As a beginner, I particularly appreciated the expanded views of a quilt showing all the layers and technical terms. The book is packed with tips which someone new to quilting would not necessarily know and would never be able to guess! The projects included in the volume have a modern look and feel and are suitable to all levels, meaning you'll find this book useful even after you've mastered the basics.

I thought that this guide was very clear and easy to follow. It has a range of techniques to use and it would appeal to beginners and more seasoned sewists alike. I found it helpful to have a reminder of the different quilting techniques. The photographs were very clear and the layout was logical and practical.

A very informative and easy to follow book for the new quilter or one wanting to learn more. The starting point is the about basic tools, fabric, wadding, measurement, design and general explanation of a quilt. What follows is a more detailed instruction on patchwork, applique and quilting. Lastly there are the project. Putting to work these new skill that the book has explained. The projects are lovely, going from a lovely simple quilt. a tote, cushions, tantha stitch throw and much more.. With lots of templates, photos and explanation, this is a very good books for would be quilter or ones with some experience ..Thanks you NetGalley and the publishers for the DRC

The book starts with about 50 pages of basics from different threads and fabrics to basic blocks, information about template and rulers, colour theory and some techniques like pressing and even unpicking a seam.
Then comes the actual quilting part, first with an introduction of some blocks (though I would not call them basic) and then a description of piecing (hand and machine) of squares, triangles and curves. English paper piecing and foundation paper piecing are also described. Appliqué is also described before we come to the chapter on quilting. There, it starts with methods to transfer motives to your quilt top and then describes different methods of quilting. Everything is described with text, pictures and often photos.
After about 140 pages of groundwork there are 15 mostly easy projects to try out the techniques described so far.
Quilt Step by Step really offers a thorough introduction to quilting and is a great choice for any new quilter.
