This is a nice friends to lovers. Brody's best friend Kate has return from her global adventures. And he's still in love just as he has been forever. Brody has to make a choice. He knows Kate's return is temporary, but is determine to give her a reason.

This was a cute read. I did find Kate unlikeable and frustrating as a lead character. Some of the dialogue was a little dry, but the chemistry between Brody and Kate makes up for it.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of How to Kiss your Best Friend by Jenny Proctor in exchange for an honest review.

The premise and plot sound interesting and romantic, however unfortunately the dialogues and miscommunication were a tad bit too heavy for my preference, which took away from the story reaching its full potential.

Unfortunately this was not for me and I ended up DNF’ing at around 40%. I tried multiple times to get through this book but the constant miscommunication and cringey dialogue was too much for me. The protective family was way too uncomfortable to read and I hated how pressured to be with her FRIEND she was. It’s not her fault if she didn’t want to be with a guy she’d been platonic with her whole childhood - if I had continued the book I know they’d have ended up together and that would have annoyed me.

I had to give up on this book after about 15%. I could not bring myself to care at all about the characters or the plot.

I love books that feature professions like teaching (I am one) and then something fun like a travel writer (sounds fun). But, I hate books that focus soooo much on the miscommunication. The setting was fun, I loved the integration with Brody's family. I enjoyed the kayaking bits and felt it was humorous. I prefer a bit more spice in my books and less closed door but that is a personal opinion and I know many people who would enjoy the book as is. Overall it was a 3 star read for me but I could definitely see how people would absolutely love this book. Thank you to NetGalley and Four Petal Press for this ARC!

I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.

It took me a bit to read this one but I'm glad I did as it was the perfect sweet romance palette cleanser that I needed. It did drag a little bit at times for me but that's because I always struggle with friends to romance as it always involves just miscommunication. A few times throughout this, I just really wanted to shake either of these characters to just grow a back bone.

I did enjoy the setting, especially Stonebrook and I'm excited to read more of this series!

It’s taken me a while to start this book, but I’m glad I did!

This was a fun, lighthearted romance read with brilliant chemistry (haha) between the main characters.

I enjoyed the authors writing style and felt the story flowed at a good pace.

This is the book you should read if you enjoy friends to lovers, small town settings, and generally feeling like you’re reading a hallmark love story. So much of this book was sweet and spicy and perfectly in tune with the romcom vibe i was looking for when i applied for this! I really enjoy when the male character pines over the girl first and it creates this sort of romantic power dynamic that allows for him to really try and woo her and help her see that he is desperately, hopelessly in love with her!

I am also obsessed with the fact that this is the start of a series! I can not wait to read those when they come out!

I will say that there was a fair amount of miscommunication as one of the tropes in the book, which i personally am not a huge fan of (in comedy yes, in dramas no) so that made some of the problems the characters faced a little awkward for me and left me screaming “oh my god just talk about it” but overall i throughly enjoyed the story!

I’ve had How To Kiss Your Best Friend on my NetGalley shelf for a while now so I’m glad the Swooning Leads and Courtship Reads book club picked it up!

Briefly this is a small town friends to lovers Romance.

I was entranced with Brody’s hot nerdy chemistry teacher vibe. And then I met Kate…she is not worthy of the Brody’s greatness. Her feelings were so flippant with regards to her so called best friend. There was one scene that had me LOL but this story was missing the comedic banter. It’s closed door so there’s that too 🥺 Overall this one was just ok for me.

Kate Fletcher and Brody Hawthorne used to be best friends. Attached to the hip. Inseparable. As they grew older, they started going different directions, until Kate left their small town to travel and Brody was left behind brooding in her absence. Years later she comes back and old feelings surface.

Just to clarify, this is a friends to strangers to lovers book. The title can be perceived as friends to lovers and that is not the case. They are both attracted to each other but are too hesitant to try to reach out. The only chemistry between them is their secret pining for each other. Their inner monologues were never ending. They spent more time internally suffering than actually reading the room and realizing that the feelings are mutual.

It was a really fast and fluffy read. Perfect for Hallmark movie lovers with the nice cheesy romance.

When a book already starts with him admitting once again that yes, he is in love with his best friend even though they haven’t spoken in years, it can only be a good book. Brody is just sat there, obsessing over a message from his best friend, Kate, while his brothers go “not again” and me, being the romance reader I am, going “ah, good for him”. When it comes to romance, it’s all about the way the characters find each other in the end. And it was so well done in How to Kiss Your Best Friend.
When Kate returns to her hometown, the first thing she does is surprise her best friend. They haven’t been in contact for years, she doesn’t know how he’ll react. But then they meet and it feels like it always did. Like coming home. But there’s something more, too. And exploring the whole past of the two of them, while also getting to know other sides of each other was so much fun. I really enjoyed how Kate and Brody work together, how they have their own little rituals, all the things that bind them together somehow. They have shared so much with each other in their past, their lives so intertwined they can’t really separate even if they tried.
I loved these little moments. They were written so well and felt very natural and authentic. I could imagine them growing up very well, as well as their relationships with the town and its people.
The two of them seem to be very different but have the same goals. They’re both a bit afraid and I enjoyed so much how they handled their fears. Listen. There was no miscommunication drama. The two of them were honest with each other and while some of those things might have been difficult to accept for the other, I loved that they were honest nevertheless. I liked them talking things out and admitting to what they want but also why those things are scary.
I loved them finding their way and having their whole story written out. They are a wholesome, wonderful couple and I loved them.
I also loved their families. I loved the Hawthornes and their farm, both the glamour and the difficulties and the unconditional love for each family member. I loved the brothers sticking together and helping each other out with (almost) no questions asked. But I also liked Kate and her little, somewhat broken family and how they find to each other despite all their troubles of the past.
I read How to Kiss Your Best Friend in two sittings and enjoyed every second of it. This is such a warmhearted, lovely and wholesome story about growing your roots and finding your people. It is about accepting yourself and learning to live with your emotions and your fears. I definitely plan on reading the other books in the series as well as Jenny Proctor’s other books!
