There's an awful lot of information in this book, and it's explained very well. It definitely feels like the DK books I've been reading for the last 30 years, though in some ways I do feel like it's much more of a textbook-feel than lots of other available non-fiction books nowadays, and I would be more likely to buy a more colourful book on the same subject from another publisher than this type I think, even though DK still has the feeling it's almost a guarantee of quality.

Perfectly decent book for the school libraries, showing the history of exploration and travel. The narrative nicely goes from the prehistoric wonders of Pacific natives finding their destinations in remote places such as Easter Island, to earlier trips and treks where we know who was behind it (whether Islamic scientist or Italian chancer funded by the Spanish court), to deep see exploration and the moon landings. Great photographic selections are here, although for me the pages with their pull quotes that quote nothing – they just add extra trivia – can be a bit too busy. Still, if that's what it takes to get and keep attention – this volume had mine. A strong four stars.
