Tali Nohkati- A Piece of Earth Under the Stars in the second book in a series. I had not read the first when this was approved for an ARC.
Possibly because I didn't have the benefit of the first book, this second one starts out in a rough way- with alot of events occurring, that I felt like would be connected, but at the moment were not. There is a dreamy, sort of floating quality to the writing, which was fascinating, but - didn't really help me to follow a plot. I sort of felt like I was reading a long poem or a mood piece. As far as I can tell, Two tribes join as one, and then have their land destroyed by an intense volcanic eruption scorching the earth. Following this event a new baby is born that the surviving tribespeople delight in this child as they journey North- out of the devastated area. This group eventually encounters a Northern group who recognizes that certain members appear to be nobility.
I honestly found this style of writing to be incredibly difficult to follow- and it may be that I missed some thing by not reading the first book. The author has a lyrical writing style and I did feel as if I might be experiencing a dream while reading- so if you are inclined to enjoy that sensation- this is definitely a book for you, for me, it was a bit of a miss.
