A lot needs to be forgiven before Luke and Emma can reignite their passion of 15 years ago. A Cornish romance story with treasure, sea and sunshine. A great read for a summer day.

Sadly I didn’t get on with this book and didn’t enjoy it. Took me ages to get through due to this. I didn’t like either of the main characters and found them both dull and boring. To the point at the end I really didn’t care if they got together or not. I found the attitude of the female lead awful. I had the audio version and maybe the tone of the narrator voice contributed to this view of her. I have read previous books by this author and really enjoyed them, so was disappointed it wasn’t the case this time.

A good summer book that makes me want to visit Cornwall.
The family feud was a bit to much sometimes or maybe it just needed to be more simple.
But the characters where great and I especially liked the old teacher.

I also enjoyed the narration with different voices for the characters.

A quick and easy read that I found myself picking up after a long day to unwind. The characters are beautifully written and I came to love them within the first few pages and was rooting for them all the way to the end. At times I wanted to stop reading because I just wanted the experience to go on for longer.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A light, relaxing romance.

A Romeo and Juliet style love story between feuding families. Freelance artist Emma returns to her Cornish hometown for inspiration, 15 years after leaving behind her childhood love in painful circumstances to pursue her career in London.

The narrator's voice is soothing and she conveys a wide range of accents.

This was a brilliant book. I just felt so good and relaxed listening to this audiobook. I thought the narrator was fantastic. It held a wonderful sense of atmosphere and would make a fantastic summer read. The book had a great slow to medium pace that flowed so well. I love how heartwarming the story-line was and it had me engrossed. The book definitely turned into a fantastic page turning novel. The book held a fantastic sense of community spirit and wonderful friendship blossomed.

I really do recommend this book to all those who love a slow building women's fiction novel with some slow building romance.

I loved the variety of different characters and warmed to them all straight away. There development over time was delightful to read. I really connected with each and every character and was emotionally involved. There were certainly some great twists to the story and one event where my heart was in my mouth. Yes some great edge of your seat moments. Both the story and characters were believable and relatable which I enjoy in my stories.

So much praise goes out to the author and publishers for creating this wonderful feel good story that just radiates love and warmth. I will definitely be looking out for more books by this author.

A Golden Cornish Summer is a lovely feel good story.
I really enjoyed this, it's a wonderful trip to Falford and Silver Cove; full of mysteries to solve, friendships to rediscover and a few hard home truths.

It was great to be back in Cornwall for the summer, guided by the delightful writing of Phillipa Ashley.
I really enjoyed the main storyline between Luke and Emma as childhood sweethearts reconnecting with each other in their home town after falling out over something that damaged the lives of both families. Lots of humour in this book and I found myself smiling a lot while I was listening. An enjoyable listen from start to finish, well narrated in a way that held my attention and sparked my imagination. It was good to hear about residents of neighbouring villages whom we have met before in other books - it was like hearing a little snippet about the lives of old friends and being glad their lives were as happy as they were when we left them.
This audiobook is a great summer listen, perfect for the beach, by the pool or in the garden in the sunshine. Or for brightening up the inevitable damp and drizzly summer days.

Beautiful soothing voice. Could definitely listen to this narrator over and over.

Story 4 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I really enjoyed this story and the developing/rebuilding of the relationship between Luke & Emma. I was rooting for them.

Phillipa Ashley does an amazing job making her stories play out like movies in your head. After this I needed more so I brought 3 from audible. Can't wait to start Summer at Cornish Cafe next.

A Golden Cornish Summer is the story of Emma Pelistry as she returns home to Cornwall after a breakup from her boyfriend. Phillips Ashley cleverly delves into her past relationships whilst introducing her to new people and forming new relationships. I thoroughly enjoyed how the character of her old teacher Ms Bowen changed throughout the story as she adapted to Emma’s newfound maturity and attitude. It was nice to show the reader how peoples opinions are fluid and we can still impact and change how people view us, even if our past experiences aren’t great.
When Emma was a teenager she snuck a boy called Luke into her parents house and as a result her life changed - but probably not as you’d expect. This is a truly lovely story to read or listen to.
The narrator on the audiobook has a delightfully soothing voice and she lilts between slight Cornish accent in her characters to broad accents for some of her more local characters.

Set in Cornwall with jumps from the past to the present and a good tension of will they/wont they. The characters are well thought out and the story is a romance with twists and turns to make it fresh and interesting. This is my first Phillips Ashley but definitely not my last. Perfect summer holiday listen

A Golden Cornish Summer by Phillipa Ashley

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK and I am leaving this review voluntarily

Emma loved her life in the seaside village of Silver Cove. But when the discovery of sunken treasure ignited a feud between her family and that of Luke, her first love, everything fell apart. Heartbroken and betrayed, she fled.

Now, as she wades into the sparkling surf for the first time in fifteen years, she remembers everything she loved about this beautiful place. Then a huge wave knocks her off her feet. Wet and dripping, Emma is rescued by none other than Luke – who is, to her dismay, even more handsome than ever.

As their paths continue to cross, and Emma is reminded of everything she ran away from, she starts to wonder if returning home was a huge mistake.

Recently I have read a lot of books set in Cornwall - everyone makes me want to plan my visit. This is not a straightforward romance and was definitely a bit 'will they, won't they' in places - but very worth the read. As I have found with Phillipa's previous books this is a great read with well developed characters and the pages just seem to turn themselves.

Emma returns to her hometown at Silver Core, Cornwall after her Father dies. She also has a work assignment and as an illustrator this is the perfect setting to work on her looming deadline. An old family feud ignites between her and Luke, her highschool boyfriend and first love. They find themselves facing the biggest questions of their lives.

With a setting as this one you get a beautiful glimpse of this seaside town. The characters really bring this book to life. The family feud about the sunken treasure and the history around it for both families was not big enough, we needed a bit more to make it pop. Without giving it away, I did like the last few chapters were we get a look into how selfless Luke is.

Overall a really fast enjoyable book! Thank you Netgalley and HaperCollinsUK for this ARC.

Full of Cornish magic and charm. I felt like I'd been on holiday as I immersed myself in this gloriously romantic love story. Misunderstandings and family feuds worth of Shakespeare or Austen as these lovers find their way back to each other. You know you're in safe hands with Phillipa Ashley and this delightful book cements her well earned reputation. Loved it!
