This was a beautiful sequel to Daughter of the Moon Goddess. I loved the retelling of this Chinese mythology that I’ve heard since my childhood. 



It’s fitting that the daughter (Shiori) of Chang’e (the Moon Goddess) and Houyi (the mortal archer) should face should grave threats as contained in this novel. Her heart is on the line and she’s forced to trust those that she can barely bring herself forgive.



There is much excitement and adventure in this book, but it’s also an emotional rollercoaster. 

If you enjoy fast-paced YA fantasy, definitely give this series a go!

Second book was much weaker than the first one.
There is a lot of jumping from one story line to another.

A lovely read that continues the story that we started in Daughter of the Moon Goddess. I was constantly hooked throughout this read, and invested in the world that Tan had built, alongside the swoon worthy love triangle between our main character and her two love interests. Whilst some of the moments of action fet slightly underwhelming, and I wish some of the emotional beats hit harder, this was still a brilliant sequel.

“For we were complex creatures of shades of gray, capable of wonderful and terrible things.. of change, because our natures were not fixed like the stars in the sky but flowing as the river toward an unknown horizon.”

This duology is absolutely beautiful. I was so lucky to get a copy of this second book on NetGalley. So a big thank you to them, the author and the publishers for granting me a copy of this book to read and review. I had a ship that I really wanted to come true at the end of The Daughter of The Moon Goddess and I am so glad it did. This book is an absolute rollercoaster full of laughter, heartbreak and tears. If you haven’t read this duology you should absolutely give it a go. I’m excited to read the novella from this world but I’m also sad that my time here is almost over.

There’s just something about this author’s writing that draws me in, this was such a great end to the duology that began with Daughter of the Moon Goddess. I saved up both books until I had the Fairyloot editions, because the design was just too gorgeous, and I'm glad I had the full experience.
After the first book, the pacing was slower than I initially expected, but in a way that worked for me. It was thoughtful, immersive, and I appreciated the space it gave to really get into tXingyin's journey which is full of complexity, and though I felt there were moments where the romance overshadowed some of the other plotlines I was hoping for, I was still captivated by her determination and resilience. I also really enjoyed the way the author continues to weave in those rich layers of myth and magic.

This book BROKE ME and ended the 2 part series in such a triumphant way!!! Love triangles, family reunions, magic, strength and loss... I did think however book 1 was better than book 2 :)

I went into this one bone, based on only the pretty cover and I have no regrets.

I’m such a picky reader/reviewer. But this one was an easy 5 stars for me. Here are the reasons you should read this.

- leaves you dying for infinite sequels.

I love these characters so much and the writing style is beautiful. There were occasional times that I wanted the book to move a little quicker but it was a delight to read!

I adored this book. The series as a whole is just wonderful. The characters are so well established and the relationships flow so well.

I am gutted the series is over

I adored the first book and this was no different. Utterly magical, compelling and a joy to read. I'm just sad that this journey is over.

I loved the plot of the story. It has strong female characters. It is full of action. It is inspired by Chinese mythology and magic. However, the writing style felt clunky.

I love sue lynn tan, never disappointed with her colourful and detailed stories. Always looking forward to more within this world.

I was oddly disappointed by the direction this novel took after loving the first one so much. I felt there was far too many drawn out scenes, awkward will-they-won't-they scenes and an ending that, while hopeful, left me a bit wanting for the romance the story had initially set out. However, the writing style and imagery continue to be beautiful and that did keep me wanting to turn the page. I'd be intrigued to read the author's work outside of this genre, giving less time to the romance and more to warrior plot - I like Xingyin the fighter better!

I am very late to reviewing this book, but I was so disappointed after loving the first one I at first refused to accept it. I just struggled so much with this sequel and felt like it was stretched so thin over a story that dragged on and on. The author extended the love triangle drama way past the point when we should have been done with it. So much of this book is about Xingyin's back and forth over the two of them, to the point where I started to dislike her and feel she was deliberately leading Wensha on. Maybe just a bad middle book, but nothing about it made me want to pick up book three.

Please note that this book is not for me - I have read the book, However I had to DNF and because i do not like to give negative reviews I will not review this book fully - there is no specific reason for not liking this book. I found it a struggle to read and did not enjoy trying to force myself to read this book.

What an incredible ending to such a fantastic duology - I'm so sad to see it go and I will miss this world so much!

This was the sequel to The Daughter of the Moon Goddess and it did not disappoint. I didn't love it quite as much as the first one but I did think it was a very good follow on.

Xingyin is determined to free her Mother but there are dangerous power shifts in the Celestial Kingdom and again Xingyin finds herself on a quest to protect her loved ones and her world. We have friends, enemies, alliances and war.

If you have read The Daughter of the Moon Goddess then I would definitely recommend continuing the series to see what happens. It was nice to spend some time in some of the other worlds.

I really like Sue Lynn Tan's writing and this world that she has created. Whilst there isn't as much action in this one it was still a great conclusion to this duology.

One issue I had was that I struggled to get into the story at the beginning but that might have been because it's been a while since I read the first one. Another was the love triangle. It's my absolute least favourite trope and for me it really took away from the story and is the reason the rating is 3.5 stars.

This was an enjoyable read though despite those issues and I'm intrigued to see what Sue Lynn Tan writes next outside of this world!

The second book, and it gave me everything I wanted . So rich with detail and world building a beautiful book.

We pick up after the conclusion of book one, but things don't say quiet for long at Xingyins home on the moon

There is a strange new magic that threatens them and forces Xingyin to flee and travel across the Realm. We meet new and old friends, and enemies, along the way. There is love & loss and trials & tribulations aplenty.

Beautiful world, great story and nice conclusion to the duology

Excited there have now been more books announced and excited to see where the author goes with them!
