This is the fourth in the Colter Shaw series but can easily be read as a stand alone. But I highly recommend you read the previous three to get s real feel for the characters.
The story is based around a mother and daughter trying to escape her abusive husband after he is released from prison.
There is a great twist to this book but I don't want to give away any spoilers.
Its extremely fast paced and has an unexpected ending.

Colter Shaw, America's best Finder of Missing Persons, is back in the 4th instalment of the series. I read the first a couple of years ago and hadn't realised two more had been published, so I'll be heading back to catch up on those next. Luckily, this can be read more or less as a stand-alone novel.
Colter is hired by the CEO of an engineering company to find his very talented chief engineer Allison Parker and her daughter, who are on the run due to the sudden release from prison of Allison's abusive ex-husband. The company specialises in the development of a mini nuclear reactor called 'Pocket Sun', which has attracted international attention due to some very innovative features. The plot also features a heavily polluted river, lots of police corruption, some very nasty guns-for-hire, international spies and of course a romantic interest or two.
The characters are well drawn and interesting, and the relationship of Colter and teenager Hannah is quite heart-warming, because she is like a sponge soaking up all the survivalist information she can, and making good use of it. The plot had a few red herrings and mis-directions, and I queried several but without guessing the Big Reveals at the end.

If I am bring honest the publisher had me hooked just by the author's name.
I knew it was going to be an intense read.
The author writes with an ease of an accomplished story-teller. The story flows along at a really fast pace, tense, gripping, with a brilliant twist.
Colter Shaw the character is fantastic and I cannot wait for more books with this character.
Excellent read, really enjoyed reading it.

This is the 4th main book (it also has inbetweenies) in this series and, as such, I would recommend you start from the beginning. For background and character development reasons mostly but also, quite simple, cos they are excellent books. In this book, Colter Shaw's main fundamentals are front and centre when he is asked to try and find a missing person, assumed on the run from her ex-con, ex-cop husband. Allison appears to be excellent in the field of "never be without a means of escape" and even Shaw is struggling to track her and her daughter down. The second refers to weaponry and hints at worse in store for Allison as she just happens to be a nuclear engineer and there's shenanigans around a "missing" portable nuclear device. One that Shaw was originally tasked to keep safe.
I know... and yes, it's all a bit convoluted and, as you would expect if you have read previous books (and you have, haven't you?) nothing is quite what it seems. You really need to knuckle down and concentrate on the minutia of the narrative if you don't want to get caught with your proverbials down!
Suffice to say that Colter Shaw does his thing throughout, and he does it so very well. Tension is high right from the start and remains at that level pretty much all the way through. Misdirection reigns supreme alongside a healthy dollop of twists and turns with a few curve balls thrown in for good measure. I love this series mainly cos it keeps me on my toes. It makes me pay attention. It also makes me feel uncomfortable as there is usually something (occasionally more than one) which on face value makes little sense and has to be carried over, pending explanation which isn't usually far to follow and often makes me kick myself.
All in all, an excellent addition to one of my now cemented favourite series... Roll on next time. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

I am a huge fan of Jeffery Deaver so ideally i Jumped at the chance to read Hunting Time.
Hunting Time is a Colton Shaw book and book 4 in the series. I recommend reading the books in sequence. The book follows Shaw who is looking for a brilliant engineer and has escaped with her daughter . Allison is quite brilliant and her invading skills are top tier. The book was fast paced , thrilling and the character development was exceptional

This is a dramatic, action, thriller that maintains its pace throughout. Colt Shaw travels the country using his unique skills and in this book he is up against a violent ex cop, recently released from prison and who appears to be out to kill his e wife and daughter unless Shaw can protect them.
A tense, exciting read, with the flair you would expect from this prolific author.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to preview.

What can I say….it’s a Jeffery Deaver book, it’s brilliant!
God this is good! I’m a huge fan of the author’s Lincoln Rhyme series and this the Colter Shaw series is equally just as good. A great plot with the usual excellent twists. Two hours to go in a book and it’s all sorted? prepare for a mind blowing twist.

I’ve never read a book by this author and I found out that this book was part of a series so I was a little apprehensive to start it tbh but I was wrong! As this can easily be read as a stand-alone book so I didn’t feel left out at all, it has everything you want from a twisty/mystery thriller and I enjoyed it so much!
Thanks again for the copy

What a perfectly titled book - Hunting Time- as in chasing time, eking out time, maximising time, but also time to hunt - Perfect!
This is a twisty Colter Shaw thriller that has Colter trying to locate and protect a threatened mother and her daughter amid a huge radiation leak in a local water supply.. With a cast of great, well developed characters from the truculent teen to thesociopathic vilains and a father set on revenge, , Hunting Time is fast paced and kept me on my toes throuout.
What I most like about Deaver's Colter Shaw boks are e the parts when he puts his 'survivalist' skills to the test - I love learning these little tips (just in case, you know?)
Deaver is the master of twistiness and in Hunting Time he delivers well timed, unexpected twists and I was on tenterhooks from start to finish.
Although part of a series Hunting Time can easily be read as a standalone, but I defy you not to want to go back and start the series from scratch.
Loved it!

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book
colter shaw had a unique childhood and one he puts into good use with his job
hes hired to find a mother and daughter who are on the run after her ex husband was released from jail early and threatened to kill her
and what a journey of discovery this one is....
with betrayals and murder in the woods its not looking good
not a bad read kept me entertained during my covid illness

A bit of a slow start getting into this book however it was worth sticking with as the story grew and grew with a good twist that I didn't see coming

"Hunting Time" is a twisty, action-packed thriller and the fourth book in the Colter Shaw series. I found the references to Shaw's backstory intriguing. The plot works OK as a standalone but I would have preferred to start at the beginning of the series. The scientific stuff in the first 10% of the book left me cold. I also found the liberal use of contractions in speech quite off-putting, as it can make the text difficult to read. Overall, it's an enjoyable story and a series worth checking out.

Although this strand doesn't have the tension or the detail which characterise his Lincoln Rhyme series, Jeffrey Deaver's latest series is a welcome addition to his canon. Colter Shaw was raised by his survivalist father to cope with the most extreme of circumstances, and he is making a career out of tracing missing people. This novel is full of surprising twists and turns, and at times the pace is breathless; the story is engrossing from the start and entertaining throughout,

It has been a while since I read a Jeffrey Deaver book and I really enjoyed this one and found it hard to put down, A very past paced and gripping read full of lots of little twists that I did not see coming. I will definitely be looking to read more Jeffrey Deaver books soon.

Jeffery Deaver you legend!
Colter Shaw is back on another reward mission, with his percentages, his Winnebago, motorcycle, Glock, and his bad-ass survivalist skills. Damn, I missed this man.
In all honesty, I wasn’t blown away with the previous Colter Shaw book, but this addition has certainly reignited my love for the series. Colter finds himself caught up in a gig that sees him essentially having to find and provide protection for a scientist and her daughter. How everything plays out from there and how the plot and sub-plots are interwoven is simply brilliant. I would hate to give anything away, suffice it to say that I found this book exceeded what is expected from a book in its genre. I found myself captivated by the characters (there really are some brilliantly portrayed characters), enthralled by the plot, and enjoying each end every twist and turn (ah, to be blown away by a twist is what every reader wishes for). I even got a little emotional towards the end.
I would highly recommend this book.
Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for a Review Copy.

Brilliant exciting tale in the Colter Shaw series of a man with a somewhat unusual profession, part bounty hunter part man of conscience. The seeming hunt for a mother and daughter by a recently released father who’s out for revenge against the mother who he blamed for his incarceration is the main storyline. Shaw has been hired to find them by her employer but against him is also a pair of hired gunmen and so the chase begins. A series of near misses keep it all rolling along until the sudden twists in the tale start and that’s just the beginning of all the excitement. Excellent addition to this author’s long list of great psychological stories.

Another excellent story from the master of the psychological thriller . A man is out to murder his wife and daughter and so they’re on the run. Trouble is, they don’t really know who is on their side, who they can trust and they have a surprise heading their way.
It’s fast paced, high drama and totally unputdownable. Right up to the last pages, I was held in its grip and still unsure how it would end.
As with all this author’s books, it’s another ‘must read’.

Excellent book from Jeffrey Deaver as usual. Really good storyline with several unexpected twists.a very emotional read too

Colter Shaw is back in this, the 4th book of the series. He describes himself as a Reward Seeker, but gets pulled into various incidents where his expertise is needed. This time he is asked to find a missing mother and daughter, who are running for their lives. Colter is an interesting man, with an unusual background which lends itself well to the situations he finds himself in. As always with this author, the story is well plotted, fast paced with twists and turns that almost leave you breathless. It does make it feel as though parts of the US are completely lawless but that adds to the jeopardy for all. I liked the dynamic that developed between Colter and 16 year old Hannah, and the way that her personality grew. With a very satisfying ending, an enjoyable and exciting read.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I love Colter Shaw. He is such a refreshing protagonist. Whilst he can outgun and out manoeuvre his foe using all the traditional weaponry and skills one might expect, that really is, for him, a last resort. The greatest weapons in Colter’s arsenal are logic and probability, and until he has determined the proportional risk or likelihood of any given situation, he doesn’t make a move. Sounds long winded? Not when Colter Shaw is in charge. It’s his specialism and he can assess a scenario faster than most of his foes could open up a switch blade. It makes for some very interesting, and very unique, moments of threat and jeopardy and also makes for one hell of an entertaining story.
That is absolutely true of Hunting Time, in what starts as a relatively simple investigation into industrial espionage turns into a cross country quest to save a scientist, Allison, and her daughter, Hannah, from what could well be a very deadly confrontation. The tension is high, the pace fast, and the thrill of the hunt, and for Allison staying always one step ahead of the hunter, ensure that the interest in the story never wavers for one second.
Jeffery Deaver has such a skill in setting up the perfect scenario, ensuring that we are armed with all of the salient facts and then leading Colter, and by extension, the reader on one heck of an adventure. There is absolutely no doubt about the threat levels in this book. The perspective is shared between Colter and his investigations, Allison and Hannah as they try to evade those who are searching for them, Allison’s ex-husband, the very man they are hiding from, and a couple of heavies whose only aim is to ensnare Allison and ensure that her fate is well and truly sealed. The switching POV keeps the action fresh and the sense of threat at an all time high, giving us, as readers, little time to relax before the next pulse-pounding scene.
It’s not all action and tension though. There are some poignant moments, some scenes where the softer, more emotional moments take over, driven by both familial love and, in some cases, pure physical attraction. These scenes were vital because I knew all to well that, sooner rather than later, I was going to be perched right back on the edge of my seat, wondering just what dangers Allison and Hannah, and to a certain extent, Colter would be facing next.
Be prepared to be surprised, and keep your eyes well and truly open. This wouldn’t be a Jeffery Deaver novel if there wasn’t more than the odd twist or two. He most definitely delivers in Hunting Time, making use of the obvious but also managing to blindside readers a touch. The clues are all there, although you may well miss them first time around. Some are more obvious than others, but the level of subterfuge, by both characters and author, are perfectly pitched and extremely effective in this book.
What I really do love about this series, aside from the irresistible Colter Shaw, and in fact any Jeffery Deaver novel I have read so far, is that the author does a superb job of serving up strong female characters. Not just Allison Parker, although she is a woman of great resilience and whose logic rivals even Colter’s, but also Sonja Nilsson. She is the head of security at Harmon Energy, and a perfect match for Colter in both skill and mindset. There is a real spark there and it’s fun to see the pair feeding off each other. But it is perhaps Hannah who surprises the most. As a teenager she is prone to the surliness and lapses in judgment you might expect, but they way she takes on board some of the simple lessons that Colter shares with her is impressive and really brought a smile to my face.
Another absolute belter of a story, packed with energy, tension, and all the thrills and suspense I have come to expect from this series. Brilliant characterisations, a very vivid depiction of a town in decline and that time-stealing sense of urgency that kept me completely glued to the page. What more could you ask for in a book? Definitely recommended.
