First of all i have been a fan of Louise Pentland since her fame on youtube back in 2013 and loved her videos. I've never read any of her books before though. I loved the references to the 80s and 90s being a 90s child myself it was very nostalgic. I loved that most characters are very likeable and the plot was fast paced so i enjoyed reading on. .
The more you read this book, the more you want to know about Tabitha. She lives with her partner called David and works is a vintage shop called Pearls and Doodles. Her friend puts her into a competition regarding the shop, which her partner seems unimpressed with, and he even hides the letter to confirm she was shortlisted. There is a magic ring, and every time she wears it, she goes back to 1989, where she meets someone called Bea, who is full of life. Her dad, suddenly tells her mum that he is gay, and moves out to live with his boyfriend, previously her mum was very quiet, but after the news about her husband, she changes her look etc and becomes more extrovert. Tabitha doesn't want to take sides, so she keeps in contact with her mum and dad. After a heart to heart with her mum, it became apparent that her mum also had a big secret that she wasn't actually her mum, in fact it was her sister Bea who had passed away, this is the same Bea that Tabitha had been in contact with when wearing the ring. Her mum got back in contact with her old boyfriend from her youth, and everyone was happy in the end.
Imagine one Sunday, your whole life as you know changes. Tabby's world that she knows changes suddenly.
Lover of all things vintage, she finds a ring and suddenly discovers if she wears it then is able to time travel to 1989.
Tabby supports her mum and then her mum reveals more shocking family revelations.
Loved watching Tabby discover her strong she was and transporting back to the 80s.
I didn't know whether this book was going to be fun and light-hearted, or a bit more deep and emotional, but either way I expected lots of nostalgic 1980s references and an empowering story of a woman starting to be true to herself. Unfortunately, it felt like the author wasn't sure either, and the book ended up being none of those things. Personally I would have liked more time travel, more time spent in the 80s, and more personality and character development from the MC Tabitha. She was incredibly frustrating, and came across as self-centred and dim, to the point where really obvious things were put right in front of her face and she was still missing them. It's a shame because I really loved the premise of this book (and have been singing Time After Time nonstop!) but it just wasn't for me unfortunately.
Thank you to Louise, Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
What a lovely summer read - the time travelling aspect was amazing and the nostalgia was heavy (but loved it!), I was hooked straight away (as I am with all of Louise's books) and thoroughly enjoyed it!
Took me a while to get into this book, the start was slow and I initially found the whole ring time travel angle a little silly. But it turns into a nice, comfortable read about family and taking chances in life. The characters are all fairly likeable and overall it’s an easy little read.
I have read all of Louises books so was looking forward to reading her newest book, as something aside from her current series. One thing I did like is how she wove little bits of her other stories in - with Aunty Cath and Lavender Lovelies!
I wasn't really sure what to expect and did find the first half a little slow but found it really picked up in the latter half. I really enjoyed the Tabby character, and enjoyed seeing her, her mum and her dad navigate the newest chapters of their life. I disliked David from the off- what an unpleasant human.
Overall a really enjoyable read. Can't wait to see what Louise does next :)
Thanks for allowing me to read this ARC!
This is a really sweet comfort read - uses the time travel element to good effect to tell an emotional story about family, mothers and daughters, and finding the confidence to change your life.
Time after Time is a truly gorgeous story, about a woman called Tabby who owns a fabulous vintage shop called Pearls And Doodles (which I 100% wish was real)
Tabby lives an unadventurous life.
A dull pig of a boyfriend.
Her dad who has just come out as gay.
Her best friend Vivi who is a regular visitor and is Tabby’s biggest supporter, constantly telling her how amazing she is!
....
Then Tabby finds an amethyst crystal ring that changes her life.
It's not just any ordinary ring or piece of costume jewellery ... when Tabitha wears it she is transported back to 1989 where she meets Bea.
I love Tabby's character, she is so relatable and just so real. Time After Time has a wonderful message of find what makes you happy in life and embracing it, whatever it might be.
It was such an easy, light read but it had so many twists, full of good vibes, a little bit of 80's nostalgia and plenty to keep you entertained. The descriptions are so detailed, you feel like you're there in the shop, their fashion seems amazing and the whole vibe is just fab.
I will say I'm alittle bias as i love Louise's writing, I've read Wilde About Me and adored it so i had to grab this and I feel so lucky to get an advanced copy.
I didn’t initially connect with this novel as the main character, Tabby, came across as a rather weak individual. The supporting characters are an entertaining bunch. The later parts are much better and the 80s scenes brought back good memories. The demonstration of changed social expectations and behaviours was well done. An easy summer read.
Absolutely brilliant!
I couldn’t stop reading this fast paced fun book!
I adore books featuring time travel and I love nostalgic 80s memories, so this amazing book was just perfect for me!
Some emotional moments kept me tearing up, I loved the clever ending too!
I enjoyed this book as a bit of light reading. It features Tabby who is stuck in a stale relationship but not sure where to go. She works in a shop and lives her work but it’s not her shop. She has living parents until one day a bombshell is dropped that turns her life upside down.
She discovers past family secrets and that her partner is keeping a big secret of his own.
A good read that kept me interested from start to finish was just a little far fetched.
An enjoyable and easy read from Louise Pentland. The main character is likeable and the story zips along pleasingly. It is at times predictable but well written. A good beach read.
This is different from my usual type of book I tend to read but I really enjoyed this easy and funny read.
We meet Tabitha who has a pretty normal routine life with her partner David, goes round to her mum and dads for a Sunday roast every week and works in a nice second hand shop... until one Sunday her dad has a big announcement.
I loved the characters in this book, pretty much all of them - except David! I loved Tabitha and her friendship with Vivi and the book flowed easily with a constant stream of Tabitha's. thoughts which were very relatable to me. - then throw in a magic ring and a trip back to the 80's and we are really talking.
The book was positive about not knowing what you want to do or where you want to be yet. Enjoy every moment now , don't worry about anyone else and do what makes you happy.
I will be recommending this book to others and keeping an eye out for more from this author.
This was SO FUN!!!!!
I have to be honest. I knew Louise was releasing this book because I have followed her on YouTube since her sprinkle of glitter days. Therefore I saw her video announcing the book. Jumped at the chance to read it on here and I'm so glad I did, definitely will buy a physical copy.
At first, I was like hmm.... I didnt really get it, the writing felt a little all over the place and I felt like I couldn't understand where exactly the plot was going.
But it didn't take long before I fell straight into the wonderful and whimsical writing. Louise's writing SOUNDS like her. I could imagine her reading this out or it being a vlog!
I loved Tabitha. I was rooting for her the whole way. The entire plot was so good. So many different elements, all joining together and making sense! I loved all the nods and references to Lou's personal life - Pearl and Doodles, Liam, "wild" (OK but Louise there is such a thing as mentioning "wild" too much, hahaha)
Also loved the acknowledgements. Overall, I think this was brilliant!!!!!
A quick and easy read that I found myself picking up after a long day to unwind. The characters are beautifully written and I came to love them within the first few pages and was rooting for them all the way to the end. At times I wanted to stop reading because I just wanted the experience to go on for longer.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this book. The writing style is easy to read and relatable on many levels. There is plenty going on without it being heavy going.
Having follow Louise on social media for a while you can see her personality coming through in this book. Love the shop name.
I absolutely love Louise Pentland's writing style and I devoured this so quickly. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me an advance copy, I will definitely be recommending.
Absolutely love Louise Pentland's writing style so this book was a no-brainer for me! A lovely read that had me devouring it in a few hours!
‘Time After Time’ By Louise Pentland
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Louise has this talent for crafting characters that are wholly relatable and of whom the reader wants to champion. I noticed several ‘Louiseisms’ throughout the story which added depth and put a smile on my face, each time I spotted something new.
Packed with nostalgia galore, this was a heart warming read that I absolutely sobbed my heart out to. I thought the flashback idea was very clever and I absolutely loved reading to find out where Tammy’s journey would take her- I didn’t predict the ending but wow- it took my breath away. Genius writing!
Huge thank you to NetGalley and the incredible publishing team at Bonnier Books UK, Zaffre.
