This is my first book by Louise Pentland and II will definitely read more.
The blurb of the book sold the story to me, and though you can work out the connection between the past and Tabitha’s family relatively quickly I still loved the whole story. Mother book is well written and I enjoyed all storyline’s.
I did not like the character David at all and think it’s refreshing by to see a relationship that is not ‘right’ without it being volatile or abusive.
Only negative is some of Tabitha’s internal monologue was a bit long winded.
Omg when I tell you this book is one of those that you could read in a day but then you don't want to because it will be over so you try and stretch it out but then can't wait to hear what unfolds next...in 1989 or now! Louise this was a fantastic book which I think so many people can relate to in one way or another. It gave me all the feels, tears and laughs. Just loved it!
‘Time after Time’ by Youtuber Louise Petland tells the story of Tabitha, a twenty six year old in a failing relationship and with a love for vintage clothes. We are led through a flurry of events in her life when her father comes out over roast dinner and when she discovers a ring that allows her to time travel back to the 80’s.
To be brutally honest, this was a weak read. The plot was bizarre and poorly executed - it jumped all over the place, and it was very much a show and not tell book. There was little subtlety, the dialogue was cliché and the author seemed to just throw in random plot points. I have no idea what the main theme of this book is - I suppose you could argue it is time, but to be honest everything felt chucked in with the excuse of it being under the umbrella of time.
There were definite positives, however. I really enjoyed the scene where the link between the author and the people she is visiting is revealed (even though this was somewhat ruined by the epilogue), as well as the portrayal of the relationship between her boyfriend and her (some of the strongest / most realistic dialogue in the book evolved around this).
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
I’d not heard of Louise Pentland before I read this book and I would definitely read more by her. From having an ideal family life, Tabitha’s (Tabs) world is rocked when her dad announces he is moving out to be with Bernard from down the road! Her mum then reinvents herself to find out what she’s been missing all these years!
Add to that a controlling boyfriend and a ring that Tabs finds in the vintage shop she runs, which when wearing, transports her back to 1989.
A good story that keeps you reading.
I am so glad that I decided to request this book, as It was a joy to read!
Tabitha's life is a bit stuck. It's not bad by any means. She has a partner, albeit a bit of an old-fashioned one, a roof over her head and a job she loves.
Then the boat of her life begins to rock, as her father makes a huge announcement one Sunday lunch, before leaving.
It continues further as she watches her mother slowly come out of the shell she has been living in for the last 20-something years.
Then, she finds a ring at work, which seems to do some very strange things.
I won't go into it further, because you really should read the book to know what that ring does!
I loved Tabitha. She is so unsure of herself, even while becoming a success in her own right.
Her adventures with the ring definitely hooked me, and though I worked out what was happening around 50% of the way into the book, well, around 80% of what was happening, it didn't ruin my enjoyment of the story, and the reveal at the end was a good un!
Tabitha is surrounded by great secondary characters, in the form of her parents, Vivi her best friend, and Bea, her new friend.
Loved it all round.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bonnier Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion
I’ve followed Louise on social media for a while now. I thought Time After Time what with its bright, colourful cover was going to be a good time in the 80’s. Big hair and bigger fun. And it was but it was also so much more. This book has so much heart and a twist I did not see coming.
I don’t know whether it’s binge watching Stranger Things, 80’s you know, that made me yearn so much for this or the fact I wasn’t born until ‘88 so feel like I missed the best of times but this book was everything I was looking for at exactly the right time.
As I’m getting older I’m finding myself drawn more to stories of friendship and families than romance. This book has heaps of friendship and family dynamics and honest, flawed ones at that. It’s got best friends that didn’t just fall into each others laps and it’s got sisters that go above and beyond.
I completely adored this book. I laughed, I cried and I wanted to reach in and give Tabitha a big hug. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m off to mooch through charity shops and listen to some Madonna.
Tabby is stuck. She still lives in the small town she grew up in . . . the town she's barely ever left.
So, when her dad drops a bombshell over their weekly Sunday dinner, Tabby takes a look at her own life. She lives firmly in her comfort zone and doesn't know how to break out. Sometimes she wishes she could go back and start all over again.
When she meets Bea, a free spirit like no one else she's ever known with an 'interesting' sense of style, Tabby quickly befriends her, recognising in Bea the change she's been craving. But soon it becomes clear that more has changed than her new friend. Somehow Tabby has been transported back to the 1980s.
With the chance to reinvent herself in another time, will Tabby finally manage to move forward?
“Time After Time” by Louise Pentland is a booo that I would consider as being completely out of my usual comfort zone of thrillers and historical fiction but I requested an arc when I saw from the premise that the novel goes back in time to the 1980s. So technically, it *could* fall into the historical fiction category. That’s my line and I’m sticking to it. I was a teenager in the 80s and I’m always nostalgic for that period of my life so I really wanted to read this book. I’m so glad I did! It was a thoroughly enjoyable trip down memory lane and was for me, the perfect summer read. It was a fun and witty read, which just proves the point that sometimes we need to get out of our comfort zones and try new things. I’m now suitably intrigued by Louise Pentland’s previous novels as this was my first book by this author. It took me back to happier and simpler times for the short time I spent reading it and just made me feel fuzzy. Oh how I wish we could turn back time to the 80s. I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a good read.
My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc in exchange for an unbiased review.
What a charming book this was! I loved Tabby, she was a brilliant character, completely lovable and real. I also adore a book with a great best friend and Vivi was the ultimate, I loved their grown up sleepovers and snacks.
The transitions between present day and the 1980’s are done so well, and they don’t overwhelm at all. When I started to get an idea of where they were going I couldn’t stop smiling. This book has a beautiful ending.
Time After Time is a heartwarming book about family and love, friendship and connections.
I love Louise Pentland, so I was so excited to be approved to read this book! I did enjoy reading the Wilde series so had high expectations for this one. It was a really nice easy read, however I did finish it feeling a little disappointed.
For me, there were too many "ha ha's" throughout the dialogue and I just read everything in Louises voice because I feel as though she had wrote them in the way she talks.
I liked that it was a different storyline to what's out there at the moment, and loved the strong female characters throughout the book- and the strong male ones too of course!
It hasn't deterred me from reading any future books by Louise at all, it was just a nice read.
I absolutely loved this book! This has quickly become my favourite by Louise Pentland. I laughed and cried, and I was so happy with the ending. I loved the little nods to Louise’s real life (Pearls and Doodles, and Liam) and the little links to the Wilde series. I personally found the twists/shock points to be easily predicted, but I really enjoyed finding my predictions to be right, and really liked the flow of the story. I also really love that the Instagram account is interactive.
The only downside was a couple of formatting issues on my kindle, but I imagine this will be rectified for the proper kindle release.
Huge thanks to NetGalley and Bonnier for the early access.
I really like Louise, follow her on social media and have read the majority of her books.
I think this one was one of the better books.
I really enjoyed the mixture & 80s and present day, also noted the references to her own life.
The main character Tabby was relatable me in that she stays pretty much in her comfort zone, I'm glad that she did find her way out of there by the end.
Overall a nice, easy read. Well done.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book but was intrigued by the description. I have to say the whole storyline was a very pleasant surprise.
The author has done an amazing job at bringing together humour, angst, loss, and many other emotions in such a way it was seamless. I read this in one sitting.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy.
Really enjoyed this. Didn’t take long to complete. Perfect summer read. Characters well written and compliment the themes well. Thankyou
Fun and easy to read but didn’t go in depth enough in the big issues it raised. Would have enjoyed it more if the author went all in.
Tabby is a young woman who feels set to marry her long term boyfriend when her life is turned upside down by her parents separation. She is extremely passionate about her job in an antiques store and finds a ring that seems to allow her to time travel. It's not a science fiction sort of book but its light and funny and very enjoyable.
I found this book to be a very light hearted, easy read which I flew through in a couple of days. It was obviously far fetched and silly but wasn’t without its charm. I found some parts too ridiculous and not explored in enough detail despite being quite big themes. The notion of time travel was ultimately not particularly well done and too silly for me however I did enjoy reading this and would read more from Louise Pentland.
I have watched and admired Louise Pentland for years! When she first released Wilde Like Me I read the book because of Louise, but I read the sequels because I absolutely fell in love with Robin and Lyla and couldn’t wait to read more about their journey.
So when I heard that Louise was releasing a new book, Time After Time, which is due to be published in July 2022 I was beyond excited to see it on NetGalley. So thank you to NetGalley and Bonnier Books UK for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The little odes to Louise’s life were very sweet, her love of vintage, Pearls and Doodles (so cute), Liam the photographer and the mention of a ‘sprinkle of glitter’ made 14 year old me very happy!
I really enjoyed this book, it was a quick, easy, cosy read. All of the characters were written beautifully, their warmth just shone through and were so likeable, except David of course! This book focuses on finding what makes you the ‘most happy’ which Louise emphasises doesn’t always have to be the wildest biggest things and that it is okay to be happy with whatever it is you love. I really appreciated this message!
I loved the focus on both 2022 and 1989, especially the vintage fashion, it added an extra element of depth to the story that mad it different from your typical story. Especially once it all tied together at the end, it made me quite emotional.
Also praise to Tabitha’s mums slip up at the front door because really made me laugh out loud!
A really original book, covering a boring boyfriend, a great best friend, a cool and quirky job and very surprising parents. There is a love story in the book but it is the funny comments from Tabitha’s mum, the sadness around the lack of photos of Tabitha’s dead aunty and the mundane mean boringness of her boyfriend that make this story, A bit mad, but aren’t we all?
I was a child of the 80s and 90s, so there were a lot of references to my childhood that I really enjoyed. I’ve been following Louise Pentland on social media since the ‘baby glitter’ days and it made for a fun read spotting all of the references to Louise’s life. Most characters are very likeable, one not so, and the plot moved on quickly enough to keep me wanting to read on. This book doesn’t fall into any of the genres I enjoy or typically read however, I did enjoy it a lot and found it to be a quick and easy read - the sci-fi element really kept me reading on and was something different that added intrigue to the story. If there was another book set in this world, I would definitely pick it up. My only constructive feedback would be that some things (her mum’s ‘joke’ at the front door, for example) are overly explained. I have a similar sense of humour to Louise and so ‘got’ the joke in the first sentence. A great read that I recommend to anyone who enjoys this genre and to people, like me, who don’t usually! Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the eARC.
What a warm and tantalising read this was! I loved the characters, all very relevant and exciting.....I loved all the references to Louise's life, Pearls and Doodles (IYKYK!) and was hooked. I did have an inkling that the storyline would pan out in a similar way to the way it did, but it was slightly different and that made it all the better. Super easy to read and will be worth picking up when it's released
