Trust, belief and a little magic… then maybe they could both fly free. Since Trevor’s mum died his dad can barely look at him without yelling. Home is awful, school is worse. People just let you down, and Trevor only talks to Mrs. Bingo-Wings, his mum’s cat. But then he meets Midge, a peregrine falcon in danger, and finds out he has a gift that could change his life forever. Trevor is thrown into the heart of a magical adventure that could promise freedom – for Midge and for himself – but can he overcome his doubts and fears, and take on the destiny he’s only just discovered?

It is rightly advertised for fans of CS Lewis

It's okay and the author definitely knows about falconry and other birds. The general premise of the story is good but almost too much detail about falconry and not enough for the story. But I think young readers will find it a very good book but it's not for an adult. Too predictable.

**You had me at magical powers**

An intriguing tale of magic & falconry and believing in yourself, this is a one of kind story about a young boy with an overall challenging life who learns of his new one-of-a-kind magical powers, understanding and communicating with birds. The story brings you through the adventures of Trevor the main character and his newfound magical relationship with Midge the peregrine falcon.

This tale has a wonderful theme of learning self-esteem and establishing confidence in your own power. A great middle grade novel.

This is such a magical book. The main character Trevor has lost his mum and has a horrible relationship with his dad who is also grieving the loss of his wife. But he discovers he has a gift and can communicate with birds, he is a “spellboda” as much as this is a fiction book you can tell that the author is incredibly experienced with birds and falconry so it is also educational.
A beautiful story that deals with some heavier aspects of life incredibly sensitively. This would be a great book to read together with a child as it brings up so many talking points.
Thank you for the arc NetGalley/literally pr.

A beautifully written and imaginative tale for fans of falconry and fantasy. The first chapter with the exquisite description of flight hooked me into the story but it was the relationship between Trevor and Midge that captured my heart. It was refreshing to see a child with mutism on the page and have those around him accept it and make adaptations.
The knowledge and passion the author has of falconry and the conservation of birds shines through and I look forward to seeing where spellboda goes next.

I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to the fantasy and mythology genre, but, I am widening my perspectives and so dar loving it. The author has done this brilliantly. The story is beautifully written, the characters come alive on the page, the settings pop and all characters have a believable voice. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
