This was ridiculously funny?! I had a blast listening to it and couldn't get enough of the banter between Kitty and Radcliffe. I particularly enjoyed Kitty as a main character, she was resourceful, smart and low-key relatable. 100% recommend!
Loved this! Super easy read, amusing and a cute love story! Thought the characters were really well written and loved the banter between Kitty & Lord Radcliffe.
i am so sorry but i had to DNF this. It was getting repetitive but at times it felt like the app was glitching therefore i am very confused.
This was unfortunately a DNF for me: I was not in the place to read it at the time, I will try to give it another chance in the future.
3.5/5.0
This was a really fun historical romance with a sassy & witty heroine who I was cheering for the whole way through.
📚 Book Review: A Lady's Guide to Fortune-Hunting by Sophie Irwin
I thoroughly enjoyed reading A Lady's Guide to Fortune-Hunting, a charming and witty Regency-era romance. The protagonist, Kitty Talbot, is a strong and determined woman who refuses to let societal norms hold her back in her pursuit of financial security for herself and her family. The story is filled with clever schemes, unexpected twists, and a delightful romance that kept me hooked until the very end.
Irwin's writing is engaging and transports the reader to the glittering ballrooms and bustling streets of 19th century London. The characters are well-developed and have distinct personalities that make them feel like real people rather than mere caricatures.
Overall, I highly recommend A Lady's Guide to Fortune-Hunting to anyone who enjoys historical romance novels. It is a delightful and entertaining read that will leave you feeling satisfied and charmed.

This is exactly what I needed while I wait for the new season on Bridgerton and I would recommend this to people who like that show.
I think the narrator of this audiobook was great and had clear pronunciation.
I do think reading this instead of listening would help with building tension as I felt none on the audio but when I read it on paper my imagination was more active.
The romance didn't really develop any tension until about 75% in so I wouldn't class it as a slow burn but more of enemies to lovers.
The characters were well developed and I am looking forward to a sequel!
The heroine, orphaned Kitty Talbot needs to find some financial funds fast or she and her 4 younger sisters will become destitute . A classic regency conundrum which fans of Austen and Heyer will recognise . Kitty devises a plot to find a match for Cecily her younger sister with the help of an old friend of her deceased mother 'Aunt' Dorothy.Kitty and Cecily decamp to London to put the plan into action only to discover Aunt Dorathy's social circle isn't quite up to the mark. Undaunted Kitty schemes ways to ensure they have opportunities to socialise in the most prestigious social circles but her plans are somewhat thwarted by Radcliffe a classic Regency buck who identifies that Kitty and Cecily are not all that they seem. The ensuing interactions between Radcliffe and Kitty provide a fast paced amusing tale that brings Regency romance into the 21st century . A highly enjoyable , light hearted read.
Historical romance is, admittedly, not my usual reading genre. However, I have for many years enjoyed period romance films and TV shows, including the recent Netflix phenomenon Bridgerton. I decided it was finally time to step into the Regency world in book form. A Lady’s Guide to Fortune-Hunting is a delight and I am so glad I decided to give it a go.
Kitty is such a fun protagonist and I loved seeing her use her wit and cunning to try and secure a match. Her love for her sisters and the home they risk losing is the driving force behind her actions, putting their security over her own wants. She’s fiercely determined to achieve her goal, whatever it takes.
The interactions between Kitty and Radcliffe made me smile every time and I eagerly awaited every verbal sparring match. It takes a little while for Radcliffe to appear which, having read the description, did leave me a little confused at first since I was expecting him to make an appearance sooner. However, all quickly became clear and while I did enjoy the opening section, my enjoyment increased once Radcliffe was introduced to the story.
A Lady’s Guide for Fortune-Hunting is a fun read with plenty of humour, a slowly developed and satisfying romance, and an overall great cast of characters. It does what it says on the tin, and it’s exactly what I was looking for. While the novel follows a familiar formula, Sophie Irwin executes it very well. I’ll be looking out for her next book.
I am not a romance-reader, though I enjoy love stories from time-to-time, especially periodical romances. Usually when you read a book set in a historical setting, it is mostly easy to tell that it is written in the current time by an author pretending to write as if they are writing in the past. But this was not the case here, as it actually reads like a book written two centuries ago.
I liked the characters as their interactions. I felt this to be more of a comedy-drama rather than a romance. I liked the banter between the love interests but felt their romance to be rushed and lackluster.
Overall, it was a funny and enjoyable read.
This is my book of the year! The narrative voice is tonally perfect, and the audiobook narrator perfectly cast. I thoroughly enjoyed this and can't wait to read what the author writes next.
I surprised myself but enjoying this book. The characters were witty and funny and rather likable. Kitty was a strong character looking to marry for money and not for love in order to save her family and their home after she is left as a 21 year old looking after her younger sisters after her parents died. The audiobook was a joy to listen to and the narrator was really easy to listen to and I enjoyed this historical fiction with a touch of class inequality and an enemies to lovers trope.
Thankyou for giving me the opportunity to review this audiobook. Great fun story in a similar vibe to bridgerton
3.5 stars rounded up ~
I really liked this book, even if I did pick it up and put it down more than I usually would an audiobook.
It is what I like to call a "smooth brain" book - something wonderfully enjoyable, gentle, easily identifiable characters that you could zone out for a minute and still easily catch up - this is NOT a bad thing, I mean it in the most complimentary of ways.
Eleanor Tomlinson was a perfect choice of narrator and did a brilliant job of modulating her voice to suit the cast of characters - I will definitely seek out more of her narration roles!
Set in "the season" in 1818, Kitty needs money, and fast! Orphaned with three younger siblings and a run-down house, she has no choice but to come out into London high society and find a rich husband. Suspicions from prospective husbands' family members and the hurdles of class-climbing drive this character driven romcom.
Genius. This novel is brilliantly done and wonderfully good fun. I lapped up every bit of camp, Austen-esque drama and almost felt like I was reading the real thing! Terrific.
I really enjoyed this so much more than I was expecting to. I flew through it in an afternoon because I didn't want to stop listening.
Such a great story, I can't wait for the next one now!
Funny, witty and an absolute delight!
Thanks NetGalley and HarperCollins UK audio, for the audiobook! It was an excellent listen, narrated by Eleanor Tomlinson whose voice was a perfect fit for all the characters and she did a brilliant job of modulating it to suit them all!

Review -
Oh Kitty! I am a fan of this marvellous young lady. 💃I had nothing but admiration for her right from the get-go.
Resourceful, clever and conniving even, Kitty simply knows how to manoeuvre her way into every avenue she thinks to be beneficial to her.
Thanks to her aunt Dorothy, Kitty and her sister Cecily, she enters the polite society and their balls. But when an opportunity for something bigger arises, she wastes no time in embracing lady luck’s benevolence, using her shrewd mental faculty and smartly disguised manipulation.
As she begins to spread her wings, Lord Radcliffe begins snooping out her intentions and that’s when the real fun begins. I just loved how the author develops the dynamics and this delicate “dance” between the two.
Of course, it was entirely predictable how things might play out eventually for Kitty, but the way in which the plot unravels, how Kitty handles every challenge, the subtlety and attitude with which she enlists help from Radcliffe, gets what she wants at any cost was utterly splendid.
The humour deserves special mention – we were constantly smiling, laughing and grinning at Kitty’s little shenanigans. 😈🤠
The ending was a roller coaster ride with Kitty and Lord Radcliffe rising to the situation, while averting crises for each other’s family. Although it was not a surprise, I was so happy and cheered for Kitty all the way, as she not only saves her family, her home, but also finds true love in her quest.
A well-accomplished triumph of a historical romance! Congratulations to the author on this debut!
This book really helped with the wait for the new season of Bridgeton 😉.
This book had me swooning! I definitely had some Bridgerton withdrawals that this instantly cured with its romance and dashing book boyfriend material. A perfect blend of historical romance and laugh out loud wittiness, the banter is second to none and that slow burn and tension… amazing. Kitty was everything I needed in a main character and I found her not only likeable but relatable too. Highly recommend.
Im a big regency era nerd and I was so excited for this!
It didnt dissapoint…
-witty banter
-enemies to lovers trope
- stubborn selfless MC
-squeeky clean,closed door
but one hell of a slow burn 🔥
- regency era humour 😍
-gossipy matrons
Ive had conversations with friends about how it would be great to see or read a regency romance where the MC isnt set on love because she cant afford it.
Where her circumstances make it so she has to settle because although its less romantic its far more likely and selfless.
If you too have wanted to see an MC with that mindset then this book is for you!
the nods to pride and prejudice were 👌
I listened on audio and Eleanor Tomlinson’s voice acting perfectly captures the characters and humour . 😍
I definitely recommend getting the audio version
A wonderful romp! For fans of Jane Austen and Bridgerton. A fun, sweet romance with likeable characters. I couldn't put this down. Whilst the story was a little formulaic at times, it was very enjoyable and lived up to my expectations. Narrator Eleanor Tomlinson was fantastic.
