🎆Short, sweet: bring on the hotdogs and cheese cannon!🌭
3-3.5 🌟 stars
I got a hint of a deeper story when the leads are discussing the tragedy that has touched each of them. This is a very simple instalove involving two workers in a mall. Wish it had been longer so the characters and romantic bits could have been expanded upon. Except for the epilogue the story only unfolds over one Fourth of July celebration. Otherwise, nice, read it all in one lunchbreak story with a bit of humor from side character Connor and a happy conclusion.
Although Robinson's got a holiday series going here that are all connected by the one mall location, you can read each short novella by itself without referring to the others.
Thanks to the author, Author Collective 20 and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the novella; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
A Fantastically whimsical five-star read. This is just sublime, I have loved all of the Mall series, and love how they are all stand-alone as they tell the story of a different business in the Mall, and I am wondering what will be next. I love this one, as we get to hear all about Kamar and his beautiful voice, as well as the sunny disposition of the wonderful Summer and her truly lovely story. This is short and sweet, but it has so much charm. I adore this author and feel they have a great way of sucking you into the story and making you feel so much in such a short space of pages.
A short and sweet cheesey romcom featuring an independent lgbtq+ female lead.
Review: ⭐️⭐️
Mall American Girl, by Sarah Robinson, was a cute summer novella that is great for people who like reading but don't have a lot of time to do so (Publication Date: 07/1/22).
Summer is the owner of a tanning salon in the mall. While working one day Kamar, a musician, comes into her store looking for an electrical outlet. The two exchange witty banter and find out they are both entering the mall's annual 4th of July contest.
After wins and losses during competition, Summer's ex-girlfriend, Winter, and a life saving situation, Summer and Kamar come together under the fireworks.
1 year later the two are still friendly and in friendly competition even with life moments and milestones.
I thought the writing was a bit cheesey and stereotypical. I did appreciate the inclusiveness of different sexualities and beliefs. However, the ending was abrupt and the characters lacked development within themselves and their relationships. I wish Mall American Girl was more focused for the length of the novella or was longer to allow for the characters and the plot to be stronger.

Mall American Girl is another entertaining short in the At The Mall series, featuring tanning store owner Summer and singer/songwriter Kamar who gets roped into taking part in the Yule Heights Annual Independence Games.
But he faces a tough competitor in Summer who is reigning champion and likes to win. And with a few a familiar faces plenty of humour and an ex who doesn't seem to want to take no for an answer. This was an engaging and sweet read, that fans of the series are sure to enjoy.
Mall American Girl is short, sweet, and leaves you with a smile. Great writing and cute characters that leave you wanting more.
A relatively short story focused around a competition in a mall - how many hotdogs can you eat kind of thing. Summer saves Kumars bacon when she lets him plug in his amps for his music In her shop, and then potentially his life when he chokes on a hotdog in the competition. A few funny bits but not enough plot for me.
Mall American Girl is a cute fun read. I love how Sarah Robinson brings little pieces of her mall characters together throughout this series. This is Summer and Kamar's book. Summer is a sweet heart with a competitive edge. She has her own reasoning behind why she runs her tanning salon. Kamar is a sweetheart that loves his music. There is such a flirtatiousness the who way through between Kamar and Summer. You feel the pull grow stronger as they compete against each other and cheer each other on with the games the mall is throwing.I love how they come together in this one. Summer and Kamar are so much fun. I could nto get enough. You need to one click this one now.
Mall American Girl was a cute summer read that takes place on 4th of July. It was short and I wanted so much more from this couple, but overall I enjoyed it. The epilogue was definitely the best part!
"Summer glanced down at her arms, seeing small raised bumps breaking out across her skin at the very sound of him. […] Like his lyrics sat on her heart and weighed her down in all the best ways that love and loss could do."
This was a cute read. A bit messy and all over the place. A bit insta-lovey, but I guess that is to be expected with novellas.
Personally, I liked Mall You Need is Love more, but I'm intrigued enough to check out more from this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of Mall American Girl by Sarah Robinson in exchange for an honest review.
When Kamar and Summer meet, it seems to be love at first sight, but soon they are competing against one another in the hot dog eating competition, and love flourishes.
As always Robinson gives us a great novella, but one where we still want more. I did feel the character of Winter was irrelevant, as she didn't honestly bring anything to the book, however, if this was longer then maybe she would have.
I felt the writing style has been cleaned up in this one, as in the previous novellas the character POV kept switching within the specific character chapters, which became confusing and irritating. So this novella was a lot easier to read.
This novella is part of a series and I love the way the previous characters are mentioned and everything is neatly wrapped up.
I really enjoy reading this author and look forward to reading more.
I received a copy from NetGalley.
I wish this was a smidge longer. The overall story is fine, but there's no resolution with the ex-girlfriend Winter, which is apart of the bigger conflict with the story. Other than that, it's cute, it's an easy read and I'm sure someone else will eat this up.
Sweet little summer novella centered around July 4th. It left me wanting more of their story, but I was very happy with the epilogue!

I love a holiday story, but you don't get too many 4th of July ones. If you're in the market for a delightful 4th of July novella, I highly recommend this one.
It's set in a shopping mall, and all the characters work at various stores. The mall is such a fun setting, so many people cross paths and spend time there, it's the perfect mixing pot for a romance. This is the story of Summer (who owns the tanning salon) and Kamar a musician who plays at the mall for tips. They meet just before the mall's big 4th of July celebration: the Independence Games. They compete against each other in a hot dog eating contest and potato sack race, and eventually find out that the true prize is love.
It's good fun, and really put me in the mood for a 4th of July BBQ and fireworks!
This romance came from a different place. Summer and Kamar meet at the mall during the Fourth of July celebration.
While the romance was cute I think a few pages could have been added to explain a few things/ such as going into details about the ex and why she is the way she is.
I think for a short story we shouldn't add a deep item if we can't go into more details about it. there were some carrots dangled without the supporting information to make me feel informed
A good short story that could have used a few more pages
This book was the cutest book i've read in a long time. I really enjoyed summer knowing what she wants and it wasn't the boy in control the whole time. My only complaint is I wish it was longer.

The epilogue was my favorite part of this whole book. I was smiling ear to ear the whole time I was reading it.

A simple and sweet book. Perfect for a quick read before bed when you don’t want to stay up late.
