The second book in the Elements of Cadence duology is easily one of my favourite books of 2022. It has hauntingly beautiful and often poetic writing and I was invested in the journeys of all four main characters. I was absolutely engrossed in this book and loved the carefully crafted world-building.

I will be keeping an eye on what Rebecca Ross brings out next, and will also pick up some of her previous work!

I read A River Enchanted when it first came out and immediately fell in love with the world, the writing and of course the characters. Needless to say I enjoyed returning to the world in A Fire Endless just as much. This series is so comforting and whimsical whilst at the same time incredibly action packed and intriguing. The characters were just as lovable and I enjoyed meeting our new characters too.

Whilst I could definitely read more of these characters and this world, I believe it works perfectly as a duology and the author did an amazing job wrapping up the plot and concluding the series in A fire endless. These books are so unique and it’s definitely a series I’d recommend to anyone who likes whimsical fantasy.

A Fire Endless by Rebecca Ross is the second book in the Elements of Cadence duology, the bestselling Celtic-inspired fantasy series. Whilst I enjoyed A River Enchanted, I found the epic conclusion to be absolutely captivating.

“…and I would tell you to sing up a hundred storms, if only to hear such beauty and truth again. To feel it settle in my bones and warm my blood. To know it is mine and mine alone to claim.”

Despite Adaira’s sacrifice, the Isle of Cadence remains divided. The Breccans continue to despise the East for their prosperity and the Tamerlaines fear the magic and desperation of the West. Jack, her husband, is lost without her but as famine and sickness break out on the Isle, he is forced to travel across enemy lines to reunite the clans and confront Bane, the spirit of the north wind who threatens to destroy both the human and faerie realms.

A Fire Endless is a beautifully written and carefully crafted romantic fantasy with Scottish-inspired folklore delicately woven throughout. It’s a magical story about love, ancient tradition, sacrifice, and family honor. The romance element is incredibly tender and sweet, however, it’s the family dynamics and nature of the spirits which I found most compelling.

The world-building was carefully crafted and clearly a lot of time and care has gone into creating each and every character. A River Enchanted was good, but A Fire Endless is exceptional. A wonderful, magical read that completely swept me away.

Rebecca Ross has such a magical way with words that this sequel to "A River Enchanted" was sure to be another storming read - and it was all that and then some

Ease of Reading: 4✨
Characters: 4✨
Plot: 4✨
Writing: 4✨
Overall: 4✨

SPOILERS AHEAD DUE TO SEQUEL AND BECAUSE RANTS

What I liked:
-That there were four main characters
-That the two main male characters were not stereotypically manly
-Torin became a healer in a 'witchy' way and broke gender norms
-Sidra in general is my fave
-The whole story in the spirit side of the island
-The story itself was interesting and well paced
-The side characters had depth
-That Adaira was her own person and got on with her life even when Jack left
-Sidra and Torin's relationship

What I didn't like:
-Adaira and Jack's love story. I found the pet name 'old menace' super cringy and I didn't feel any heat between them, they seemed more like friends than lovers, which I think would have actually been better, the book didn't need this romance element.
-Some of the writing was annoying, there would often be points where the characters lamented over their feelings or how things that had happened made them feel. It was very tell rather than show. I just read what happened and thought it was often already clear how they should be feeling, these paragraphs just added extra waffle.
-The obviousness of the overall plot, as in, the island is divided in two, its clearly gonna end with it healed.
-The happy ending for Jack. Like, why randomly after 111 days did he decide to ask to be mortal again. Also it didn't make sense, like just don't make him need to be immortal in the first place or give more reasoning. I think I just don't like it when everything wraps up nicely, it gives me nothing to ponder.

Overall, I liked the Duology, and I have seen so many people rave about it, so I'd probably recommend it, but its not up there for me in the Fantasy genre.

I loved this so much, loved the characters and world building, the premise is what drew me in and found this to be so atmospheric

A Fire Endless was definitely one of those books that makes you appreciate its predecessor. The second installment in the Elements of Cadence duology allowed me to reflect on A River Enchanted and also demonstrated how well thought out each individual element of the plot line is. This duology certainly feels like a cohesive story bound in two volumes rather than one.

The more the story progressed, the more I cared for each of the characters and was invested in their journeys. Adaira, Jack, Sidra and Torin all come to a climax in their own personal quests for healing while also striving to heal Cadence itself. Adaira’s journey towards self-discovery amongst the Breccan clan is explored by juxtaposing it against her life as a Tamerlaine. Jack struggles with the absence of Adaira while crafting a plan through music to defeat Bane.

One of the novel’s strongest points is the carefully crafted relationships. Each pairing goes through their own struggles and come together beautifully - making it a joy to experience alongside them. The connection between Sidra and Torin is particularly captivating, their own individual journeys bringing them apart and ultimately together.

The writing in A Fire Endless is whimsical and cosy, it’s believable and crafts not only an interesting and fleshed out world but also tackles an overarching issue affecting all of Cadence whilst developing each individual character through their own tribulations - and sprinkling in much awaited romance. It’s certainly a pleasure to read and an absolute 5* - the only downside being there is no more to wait for after you turn the final page.

How beautifully written this was! 😍 As the last book in the Elements of Cadence Duology we literally hit the ground running where A River Enchanted ends - Straight in! I loved that! 👌🏻

We have a lovely story of healing and multiple inter-woven plot points, I liked how the characters we met in book one progressed and grew in this instalment!

I feel like in A Fire Endless, not only did the characters grow with the story but so did the romance. We get a lot more tastefully written scenes that are focused on the emotion which was done well. In the first book, it was just implied and then faded into a new scene as it were.

I’d love to re-visit this when the audio is available too! 😍👌🏻

This the second book in a duology that I loved, a compelling and gripping story that kept me turning pages.
I liked the first part and loved this one.
Great world building and storytelling, fleshed out characters.
Can't wait to read another book by this author.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

This book was an absolute delight. It was a brilliant conclusion to the duology. If I could I would visit Cadence immediately. It is just a brilliant book.

I absolutely loved a River Enchanted and I loved Fire Endless even more. Many characters you will love and root for. A very satisfying conclusion to the story.

Picking up perfectly from where the previous book ends. Rebecca Ross has carefully crafted a world that builds with the story.
A Fire Endless is the most captivating tale which I couldn't put down, it flowed better than the first but I think that is solely down to knowing the characters and having an understanding of the world in which the story is set.

A fire endless by Rebecca Ross

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thank you to netgalley, harper Collins uk and Rebecca Ross for the opportunity to read this book

"If I am weak for wanting you, then let me embrace that weakness and make it my strength"..."and if you must haunt me, then let me haunt you in return"

This was so beautifully written that I feel the need to recommend it to anyone I have ever met. Not only do I have the digital arc and the illumicrate special edition but also the audiobook. The audio is narrated by Ruth Urquhart and I think they did a really great job at capturing the emotions of the scenes.

I did cry, although not necessarily at a part I thought I would. And then I cried again and so naturally this is a 5 star read for me. The characters and the plot are weaved together exceptionally well and there wasn't a single POV that I didn't want to read.

If I had one complaint it would be that a certain reunion was cut out of the end of the book but I can imagine that well enough and it's probably just as well it wasn't written as I would have sobbed.

If Rebecca Ross wasn't already an autobuy author for me she certainly would be now, very excited to read divine rivals when it releases.

Thank you so much to HarperCollins UK and NetGalley for an e-arc of this book.

I enjoyed A River Enchanted, although the same issues I had with the first instalment unfortunately weren’t improved upon in this second outing.

For me, I just don’t care about any of the characters. I don’t feel anything towards them. They are very bland, with little characterisation.

The world building is also not as coherent or as full as I would like.

I do like the premise, and not every book has to be one where it’s action-packed, but this one falls short of being wonderfully atmospheric instead.

A RIVER ENCHANTED was one of my favourite books this year and its sequel, A FIRE ENDLESS, was just as much fun to read.

We get to see the west! A lot of the book is spent on the other half of the isle, exploring its lands and people, the way magic and life is different there. It also goes much deeper into the magic and the way it has divided and ruled the island.

It's also a book about family. After meeting his sister in the first book and unravelling the mystery of his father, Jack has a chance to meet him in this book. There's Adaira's blood parents, and her attempts to get to know them, understand them, after being raised to see them as enemies.

I loved Torin's quest in this book, how much he had to learn new skills as his task is very much suited to another character's skill set, not his. It was such a great way to continue his arc from the previous book and also explore the magic and spirits further, forcing him to choose faith and change.

The book is once more lyrical, very much like the music at its heart. It drew me in (and then meant I had to keep a very tight eye on the announcement boards so I didn't miss my stop on the trains I read this on!)

It is the perfect ending to this duology, full of hope, heartbreak, and bittersweetness, and I'm sure I will be looking for an excuse to re-read it as soon as I can!

Many thanks to Netgalley, HarperCollins UK, HarperFiction and the author, for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have never rushed to write a review as soon I put the book down before. But this book!! God this book had me on edge for 48 hours. I cannot believe I finished it and now I long to be back in Cadence.

A Fire Endless is the second and last book of The elements of Cadence duology. This book begins a few weeks after the events of book 1. Bane is in a rage trying to claim all of Cadence for himself, Adaira is trying to find her place and pace in the west, Jack is adrift without her, Torin and Sidra are struggling to adjust to the new changes in their lives while trying to solve the mystery of the blight that seems to be affecting the immortals and mortals alike. The vibes of this book, the air of uncertainty, the power in the air, the flow of the story, trust me will keep you on your toes. I was pacing the lengths of my room trying to hold on to the story and worrying about the ways in which the story could go.

The best part of a Rebecca Ross book is the way the scene changes POV from one character to other. The author leaves us in a lurch with one character and the camera suddenly changes to the POV of another approaching this situation. This whole way of storytelling is very artfully crafted and executed.

I think this is definitely one of the best duology conclusions I have read and one of the best books I have read this year.

I really enjoyed this book. I was lucky to have received A River Enchanted as an ARC so was grateful when I was also approved for the sequel.

This book is a lot more fast paced than its predecessor which I appreciated. I also was in a better headspace when reading this one meaning my reading experience was more enjoyable.

I enjoyed how Rebecca weaved the storylines together and I appreciated the different points of view throughout the book to allow for time away from certain storylines.

I also enjoyed the character development a lot more in this book and their relationships with one another felt like real relationships rather than just set characters.

I would recommend this series to people who enjoy high fantasy with a lot of worldbuilding.

4.5 stars

Headlines:
Sweeping storyline
Clan battles
Family

Having liked book one but not loved it, A Fire Endless pretty much added a 100 x boost to my interest in this world, the characters and the story. I got swept up straight away with Cadance and the clans with my love for Adaira, Sidra, Jack and Torin increasing. I said when I read book one that it gave me vibes from Marillier's Sevenwaters tales and that remained true.

There was so much to this second installment of the tale and the storyline was strong, complex and magical. I really enjoyed how the fae-folk (spirit) realm crossed over with the human realm and how those fae-folk characters came into more focus. Kae and Hap were particular favourites. In terms of my favourite human characters all the kudos has to go to the women of this piece, namely Sidra who I adored and Adaira whose strength and leadership was epic.

The story of the blight, the Breccon clan and life in that castle was just gripping. The story was told in such a personal way, through the eyes of characters readers already care about, that the pages just flew by even though there were a lot of pages.

The sense of family in this book is so prominent; blood and found. That's the overwhelming feeling I'm left with at the end. I feel so satisfied about the duology overall and I recommend to all my fantasy reading friends.

Thank you to Harper Voyager and InstaBook Tours for the review copy.

A Fire Endless was an absolutely stunning conclusion to the story that started with A River Enchanted!
Honestly, I think this was even better than the first.

This series is so, so lovely. It has the same comfort of a warm hug and magical cosiness of a daydream, and the atmosphere, the vibe of this story is immaculate and just as strong as it was in the first book. The fairytale-esque vibes with the lure of scottish charm is just so cosy and lush! The mysterious island of cadence, the resolution to an age-old feud between clans, and exploring the realm of spirits create a very tangible and well structured world.

The two main characters, as in the first book, I loved them very much, and even if in A Fire Endless they remain separate for part of the book, they are still fantastic, well-characterized characters and their bond is something unique and wonderful!
All the other characters are also very well written, they are flawed and very human and I loved their presence in the book!

Speaking of romance, I really liked the relationship between Jack and Adaira, and also the writing and the vibes are so romantic that it seems to be in a fairy tale.

In a nutshell, A Fire Endless is an exquisite and perfect end to the Elements of Cadence duology.
Rebecca Ross's writing is magnificent and so are the characters she brings to life!
Highly recommended if you love stories with a hint of mystery, a fairytale setting and vivid, human characters!
A Fire Endless is out today! Don't miss it!

Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Voyager for providing me with this e-ARC
