Loved this suspenseful story. Kat and Mark move from London to a tiny island off the Northern Ireland coast. They move there to be closer to Mark's mother who is in a care home, and with the idea that it will be an ideal locale to raise children. But they are both keeping secrets and their relationship start disintegrating. Loved the slow build up of dread and tension, and loved the descriptions of the island, which was a perfect backdrop to the story.
I was attracted by the blurb and the book started strong. The descriptions of the places were great and I would like to be there.
I found the story very slow and it didn't keep my attention.
Not my cup of tea.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
The Couple at Causeway Cottage is full of secrets, lies, twists and turns and some downright nasty characters which I love.
Kat and Mark have move Rathlin Island in order to be close to Mark's ailing Mom.
They are quickly welcomed by a few islanders .
Does Kat recognize one of them?
Mark is working long hours on the mainland and Kat is getting suspicious of him with just reason.
The tension mounts as the pages turn .
Who can Kat trust.
Does she really know Mark as well as thought.
The Couple at Causeway Cottage has an ending I did not see coming.
Add this book to your TBR pile, near the top, and you will be glad you did.
Thanks to NetGalley and HQ, HQ Digital for a tense but oh so good read.
Who exactly did I just marry!?😱
Kat and Mark are newly-weds, anxious to start their young lives together. Mark’s mother is elderly, so to be closer in proximity to her, Mark and Kat move to a small island off the Irish coast. (Such good kids!)
Eventually lies from the past begin to surface, and Kat no longer knows who she can trust!
A highly addictive thriller that kept me engaged and entertained all the way, the storyline flowing effortlessly. With short chapters that kept me saying “just one more” until I found myself at the epilogue!😉
My first read by Diane Jeffrey but I’ll be diving back into her previous works until she releases her next! Diane…you have a new fan!
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ Digital
The Couple at Causeway Cottage follows Kat and Mark as they move to a new town to be close to Mark’s mother. It may be a new beginning, but will old secrets stay dead?
I will say that this book was a little hard for me to get into. The pacing seemed a little slow in the beginning and I felt like at some parts it became a little predictable. The build up to the big ending was a little exciting. I felt the pacing was spot on for that section but then the ending fell just a little flat and almost a little too vague for my liking. I find myself having more questions than I did during the climax of the story.

This is the second book I have read by Diane Jeffrey and it didn’t disappoint. Diane has such a clever way of writing that you get so immersed in the story you can’t put it down. Eventhough I guessed one of the twists early on I didn’t guess that outcome. It’s definitely been left on a cliffhanger and left open for book 2 as I have unanswered questions right now. This book does contain/ speak about rape so this is a trigger for you please don’t read this.
The Couple at Causeway Cottage by Diane Jeffrey caught my attention because it was based on my favourite coastline and allowed me a glimpse of Rathlin Island which I so intend to visit! The descriptions of the island through Kat’s photography eyes is great and Diane certainly has a handle on the changeability and unpredictability of Northern Irish weather which added to the atmosphere of the book. Kat and Mark were simply hard to understand. A big life move and such poor communication shrouded in lies and deceit. Without introducing spoilers, I feel the core subject matter of the book (Erin’s experience and subsequently Darragh’s behaviour) is disturbing and I don’t believe it was addressed sufficiently but was just simply glossed over for the sake of the plot development. Perhaps this is for a sequel? The ending certainly leaves the possibility of a book about what happens next. Overall a decent read. Three & a half stars
Kat and Mark move to an island of the Northern Irish coast for a new beginning far away from their frantic London life, it's the perfect place to bring up the family they're longing to start. But as soon as they arrive, cracks begin to appear in their marriage, Mark is still texting his ex-wife. Kat is lying about a new friendship. And one of them is keeping an explosive secret about the past. The couple in Causeway Cottage are hiding something - and the truth can be deadly.
Kat and Mark move to Rathlin Island to be near Marl's mother who is in a care home. The Story is told from Kat's point of view. I didn't like any of the characters, they weren't really believable either. Kat and Mark both have dark secrets, but someone seems to know all about them, It's also a bit predictable, but that doesn't make it a bad read. It's descriptively written, with twists, and I thought it was more a mystery than a thriller.

The Couple at Causeway Cottage is such a roller coaster! I could not put it down and I did not want it to end. I highly recommend this book.
This was a bit of a slow burn for me but blimey, once it lit up, it was engrossing! A dark tale, filled with connections and twists and turns that I had t predicted - a great read!
I fully requested this book on Netgalley because I’d just returned from a trip to Ireland. I was so happy to see so many spots I’d visited in this book and feel like I was still there. The location descriptions and atmosphere were very vivid. Though I do think that the one plot twist was pretty predictable, I found this book very readable. I read it in two days. Couldn’t put it down after I got about 30% of the way in. This book is gritty and dark, but I loved it. Also loved the ending and wonder what, if anything, might happen next.

Kat and Mark move to Ireland from London to be near his mother, who is ill. Once there, they meet Darragh, who Kat thinks may have been the brother of a teenage friend of hers, Erin, who disappeared. She thinks she may have had some culpability in that situation and tries to hide that relationship from him. Meanwhile Kat suspects Mark of having an affair with his ex wife, among other people.
This book was just ok for me. I thought it was slow without a lot going on until about 70%. There was also a lot of Kat eluding to whatever she did when she was 15 that led to Erin's issues but not revealing it, which I find annoying. Quit referring to the big secret all the time. Eventually the big secret of what actually went on with Erin is revealed to Kat without her figuring anything out on her own and with so much left in the book, I figured this must be a misdirection and there would be more shocking revelations at the end, but there really weren't, which made the whole thing sort of anticlimactic for me. I have liked other books from this author. I didn't think this was her best.
I really enjoyed this psychological thriller. As the story started to unfold I thought I could predict what would happen but I was certainly wrong!
Great escapism.
I enjoyed reading this book and there was a few twists and turns along the way that led me to want to carry on and not put it down. Not sure about the ending though, and having read some of the other comments it seems you'll either love or hate the end of the book. This was more of 3.5 for me.
This was a great thriller -atmospheric and developed characters. Loved the ending.
<SPOILER> I loved that the end went straight up crazy. If you're introducing wild unlikely coincidences and psychopathic behavior, the wild impulsive decision to murder (?) is great.</Spoiler>
Thanks to NetGalley for a free ARC.
Kat and Mark have relocated to Rathlin Island off the Northern Island coast. Mark wants to be nearer his mother and they both hope that the island will be the perfect place to start a family. However, cracks begin to appear in their relationship when Mark starts to text his ex-wife and Kat becomes attracted to a local man.
There is a really intricate plot which drops some real bombs at times. Plenty of secrets are revealed. The characterisation is good and it is interesting to observe how the characters change as their pasts are revealed. This is a clever and entertaining read.

Kat and Mark are The Couple at Causeway Cottage, a cottage located on windswept, atmospheric Rathlin Island off the coast of Northern Ireland. They have moved here to be nearer to Mark’s mother who has dementia and to escape from the pressures of city life. Mark is commuting to work, Kat plans to start a photography business and they hope to soon start a family. It sounds perfect, doesn’t it?
It isn’t, of course. This is a psychological thriller and every character in it is hiding something. At first there is a chance, however slight, that problems could be solved by confessing all. That doesn’t happen and, although you know things will not end well, the conclusion comes as a shocking surprise.
This a fast paced, well written thriller. The characters, especially Kat, Mark and Darragh, are well described. The conclusion is a bit far-fetched but I was so invested in the plot by then that it made sense to me. That’s all I can say without spoilers. Rathlin Island, with its small village, churches, cliffs and extreme weather, makes The Couple at Causeway Cottage deserve all 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, HQ Digital and Diane Jeffrey for this ARC.
A brilliant book you can’t put down. Kat and Mark move to Rathlin Island from London to be near Mark’s mum who is in a care home there Kat is very excited to start this new life but lots of secrets come to light relating to Kat’s life in her younger days and her husband keeps texting his ex wife.
Definitely worth reading I will be looking for more books from this author the only negative thing is the ending not sure about that.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC
Gripping book that has you guessing until the very end. I absolutely loved the setting which made the book even more atmospheric and ominous.
A young couple move into causeway cottage for a fresh start on a beautiful island in northern Ireland but things are not as they seem. You will doubt all the way through who is lying and who is telling the truth and you will certainly be surprised by the ending!
Would highly recommend. It certainly had me turning the pages and I finished it in a couple of days.
This was such a great book, loved everything about it from the characters to the story itself, a great psychological thriller from beginning to the end …
