Kat and Mark Fisher are moving to Causeway Cottage, a house on small island off the coast of Northern Island. Here the couple plan to start fresh and start a family. On the small island everyone knows everyone else’s business. With Mark working away Kat feels isolated. Her growing friendship with someone with links to her past, and a secret she’s kept, start to bring up memories she’s tried to forget.
I couldn’t put this book down once I got into it. I wanted to know all about Kat’s past and the secrets she’s kept. I read the bulk of it in one sitting. There are twists and more secrets revealed. This is the first from the author I’ve read and I’ll look for more. The only criticism I have is the explanation of the Robert the Bruce spider story. No me brought up in the UK would need this explaining to them!
Loved this book, read it very quickly. Beautiful sense of place, I enjoyed the descriptions. I've been to NI twice, and although not this part of it, I could see clearly its beauty. I wouldn't say this is a thriller at the start, more a cosy kinda crime read, but it gets darker. The ending seems quite convenient, but still had its own surprises. A 5 star read, regardless.
Kat Fisher moves to Rathlin Island where she and her husband Mark have just purchased Causeway Cottage. Mark, a head of research for a pharmaceutical company in London had always had a romantic notion about living on an island and had talked her into moving.
Kat who has always wanted to be an outdoor photographer thinks this will provide the perfect opportunity for her to pursue this goal. This would also be a perfect place to raise their children as well as to get away from Mark’s ex-wife, Fiona.
The following day after settling into their new home they bump into a man named Darragh Moore in a pub. Mark takes an instant disliking to Darragh after accidentally spilling beer on him.
Since then the couple have run into Darragh on several occasions. We learn early on that Darragh could be someone from Kat’s past.
Kat’s mother-in-law Margaret, who lives in a nursing home is still quite fond of Kat’s husband’s ex-wife, Fiona. As such Kat hasn’t been able to form a bond with her mother-in-law.
On their way back from visiting Margaret the couple finds a parcel addressed to Kat sitting in front of their cottage 📦. Who sent it?
In the parcel is a painting 🖼 of a view Kat took photos of earlier; alongside a handwritten note signed DM which Kat hides from her husband.
Earlier while the couple went walking, Darragh’s dog, Dexter ran into Kat and almost knocked her off the cliff. This made Mark furious considering Mark and Darragh didn’t hit it off well on their first encounter.
Following a visit to London to see her friend Charlotte, Kat learns a secret about Mark’s ex-wife that makes her question her husband’s fidelity..
Overall an interesting psychological thriller. Would recommend
Thank you to Diane Jeffrey, NetGalley, and HQ for the arc of this book
The Couple at Causeway Cottage by Diane Jeffrey was a phenomenal twisted story!
This is a compelling psychological thriller. The novel is very well written with a clever and twisty plot.
Fast-paced and full of twists that keep you turning the pages. Well drawn and believable characters draw the reader into this complex story.
The settings come to life through convincing descriptions, allowing the reader to clearly visualise them. I was totally addicted to this psychological thriller.

HQ Digital,
Thank You for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
I will post my review to my platforms, blog, B&N and Waterstone closer to pub date.
This was a book that definitely has you thinking. I will say there were a lot of details that could have been left out because it felt like it took away from the story being told. The ending wasn’t conclusive. It did not explain what happened clearly. Certain people seem to be nice but then in the end they definitely were not who you expect them to be. This is a good book but can do without some of the fluff. There definitely are some shocking discoveries made but not until 3/4 through the book.
I loved the setting of this book! The oncoming of winter to the island added to the mystery and intrigue of the story.
I enjoyed the twists and turns. Even if I did figure out a few of them ahead of time. Some I didn’t see coming and was shocked!
I read this in less than 24 hours so it definitely held
my attention. Each chapter added more and more intrigue..I couldn’t finish it fast enough.
This was an enjoyable mystery. Although I wouldn’t consider it a thriller.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this book!

Loved it.
Kat and Mark move to an island off the Northern Irish coast for a new beginning. Far away from their frantic life in London, it’s the perfect place to bring up the family they’re longing to start. But as soon as they arrive, cracks begin to appear in their marriage. Mark is still texting his ex-wife. Kat is lying about a new friendship. And one of them is keeping an explosive secret about the past.
I really enjoyed reading it. Finished it in less than 24 hrs.
Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for giving me an advance copy.
Well I really really liked this book! It had suspense, intrigue, and such a bendy twisted story! The storyline was very interesting and had so many twists and turns! It definitely kept me glued to my kindle! But! I'm just not sure about that ending?! I guess its for us to imagine or think what we want to think but I'm the type of reader that wants it given to me! Or spelled out! Lol I'm not sure if that says I have no imagination?! But I want the whole story! It still was a really great book anyway! I definitely enjoyed reading this one! I will recommend reading this book! Its well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
I could not put this book down. I could not stop reading…this book was sent to me by Netgalley for review, and I will read it again…just in case I missed something the first time…I was mesmerized. This is a great example of a book that can be written in linear time…no bad language…no really explicit scenes…just intrigue and mystery…the author is talented and gifted in weaving a story that will stay with the reader once finished…I cannot say enough about this novel. The setting perfect…the characters true to life…not lovable but not despicable…the timeline fantastic…the intrigue…the mystery…and I won’t mention the ending…thanks to this author for giving us the opportunity to read this book.
