Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Random House for the ARC of this book.
I absolutely loved this book. The most amazing story with so many strong women at every turn. Something I will be highly recommending when it is published as it is a really uplifting read. I could hear all their voices as they spoke because the characters were all so well formed and believable.
Well done Ruth, fantastic !!!! Could just imagine Soozi singing “Amazing Grace” at the party.
I have read another of Ruth Jones’ books and loved it so I was excited for this one and it didn’t disappoint.
It tells of the relationships between 4 generations of women - 89 year old Grace, her daughter Alys, granddaughter Elin and great grand daughter Beca.
I found the stories of the 4 women woven between different points in the past and the present day really emotive and moving. They weren’t without their faults and dramas but ultimately love was proven to be the strongest emotion.
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it.
I love Ruth’s books!!! And this one did not disappoint!! I loved all of the characters and the plot was brilliant!! I was torn apart and put back together again
Another cracking novel from Ruth Jones. A tale of 5 remarkable women. Each with their own strengths. A true matriarch at 89, Grace, at the top of the family tree down to Beca who is doing her GCSE. A tale of inter generational familial love.
Grace the wild swimming Wonder Woman, Alys the alcoholic hippy, Elin the pompous school teacher, Beca the teenager finding herself, Soozi the worldly wise.
A wonderfully written tale of feminism through the ages. An easy read but also very thought provoking. I defy any women not to relate to one (or all!) of the main characters.

Not read any of Ruth Jones's books before but I definitely want to read more. I loved this book, the story was believable and the characters were both lovely and horrid, and really follow how real life is. Did I enjoy this book more because it tracked life in Wales and I'm Welsh, maybe but it's still a great book, but had that homely feel.
Grace is turning 90 and has been looking at her life, although she mostly thinks her life has been good. She has regrets, she hasn't seen her daughter for 30 years after a falling out. She brought her Grand-daughter up, and has a great relationship with her great Grand-daughter.
The story is told from the point of view of all 4 women, and looks at the struggle they all face, and how they all interact with each other. It moves from the present through the past and back again. I would strongly recommend this book and fall in Love with the characters ❤️
Lovely story about the complexities of family life through 4 generations of women. Engaging and sweet Love Untold kept me interested from the start and keen to see that things work out for everyone. Worth a read!
An epic tale of love, families and generations - the start and the end is about the matriarch a much loved and lovable character Grace, (and being a wild swimmer too I loved those swimming references!) her daughter Alys, granddaughter Elin and great granddaughter Beca, this tells their stories, and how they have all gotten to where they are now! Few twists and turns and boy what twists! Thoroughly enjoyable read! And of course I couldn’t help but read Soozi’s words in Nessa’s fabulous Welsh accent! Thank you
I loved the three of us and was thrilled to be able to read this advanced copy of Love Untold.
The story follows Grace, her granddaughter Elin, her great granddaughter Beca, Grace’s close friends John and Cissie and Grace’s estranged daughter. Alys. It’s a beautiful love story that looks at the ups and downs and challenges of all relationships - obviously there’s a lot more to the story than that but saying more could spoil it for you.
As there is quite a bit of incidental Welsh in the book, it would probably to useful to have an explanation of these words/terms for those who aren’t familiar with them.
This is the first Ruth Jones book I’ve read and I absolutely loved it. Lots of dialogue, which I enjoy. It’s like watching a TV drama unfold before your eyes with brilliant characters who all bring their own troubles and woes to the story. There isn’t a single character to dislike. OK so maybe Alys, Grace’s daughter is a bit of a handful but at 70 years old herself, you begin to realise that a leopard can’t completely change their spots no matter how hard they try.
There are loads of secrets to discover, everyone is hiding something from their past or indeed their present. It’s funny, at times touching, and is a book you just can’t put down. Each chapter gives a viewpoint from each of the characters, sometimes in the present, other times their thoughts take them back in time. There’s drama, fall outs, lots of moments where Alys is concerned, where you just cringe at her behaviour both past and present.
A brilliant story covering four generations of mothers, daughters, granddaughters and great- granddaughter that will appeal to readers of all ages. I would highly recommend this book, definitely up there at the top with the best books I’ve read so far this year. A hard book to follow on from too, I missed reading about Grace’s family once I’d finished. It really is one of those books you just don’t want to end.
A complex family saga!
Grace lives in Dylan’s Quay. She had lived there since her husband Aneurin Meredith died in 1968. Grace had moved in with John and Cissie Edwards to turn their beautiful home, Syn-yMor, into a guest house. Her daughter, Alys reluctantly moves in with her but escapes to London as soon as she turned eighteen.
Elin Matthews (married to Greg) is Grace’s granddaughter. She is the Head Teacher of St Stephen’s High and mother to Beca.
I must be very careful about spoilers in this delicious novel revolving around this family so full of resentment, long-held anger, prodigal daughters, and cold-water swimming. When I started the book, I wasn’t that sure about the characters as Grace is easy to understand and love, however, the same can’t be said for her granddaughter, beautifully portrayed as a Head Teacher, following in her grandfather’s footsteps, whereas her daughter hates school and the tension between the two is palpable.
Alys, the prodigal daughter…… Ruth Jones has drawn her warts and all.
A novel to truly read and compare to our own family? Definitely! Show me one family that doesn’t have hidden skeletons!

I absolutely adored Ruth Jones previous two novels and so was thrilled to have the opportunity to read Love Untold. It's the story of four generations of Welsh women- 89 year old Grace , her daughter Alys, granddaughter Elin and great granddaughter Beca. It's a novel of family relationships and secrets, the bonds between mothers and daughters and how relationships can be healed. I loved the believable characters, Ruth Jones has a real talent for bringing strong woman to life and I rooted for them all. I loved the gorgeous West Wales coastal setting and felt that I was there among the characters. Love Untold is a gorgeous, emotional read that I was completely immersed in over the course of 24 hours and feel bereft now I've finished it. Highly recommended.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC
Loved this book about 4 generations of one Welsh family…Grace, Alys, Elin and Beca. A gorgeous story of life, love, heartache, family feuds and friendship.
Love Untold by Ruth Jones
Grace is about to turn ninety. She doesn't want parties or presents or fuss. She just wants to heal the family rift that's been breaking her heart for decades.
But to do that she must find her daughter Alys - the only person who can help to put things right.
Wow , wow , wow , loved this book , I feel it's her best one yet.
It was like drawing up a chair at a kitchen table , being given a cup of tea and a few biscuits , and listening to your next door neighbour telling you the story of her life.
Loved the characters and the authors way of telling the story.
Pure joy.
I was attracted to this book because it was written by Ruth Jones. It didn't disappoint. It is so well written. I loved the way bits of Welsh find it's way in to the dialogue. As I was reading I could hear the Welsh accent coming through in the voices. Amazing to do this on the written page.
This is the story of four generations of women. I did read the first few chapters twice to get the protagonists clear in my mind. Then I could not put the book down. Brilliant book. Recommended.
Love untold is a multigenerational based read, telling the tale of four generations of females with Grace being the matriarch, Alys her wayward daughter, Elin her outspoken organised grandaughter and lovely Becca the great grandaughter,
Told through the ages it does jump about a bit but the general theme of relationships between the females through the ages continues, the troubles and strife that beset the family, love and forgiveness and a few surprises along the way!
Based in lovely wales, with spatterings of Welsh and a great community of inclusiveness and friendship you can almost imagine yourself in the valleys!
An interesting thought provoking read .
Thank you netgalley for this early read.
Thank you to NetGalley, Random House and the author Ruth Jones for the opportunity to review this wonderful book.
What a wonderful, heart-warming, beautifully emotional story by Ruth Jones of 4 generations, trying to navigate their own lives and their relationships with others and each other.
It is such a well written book, with the characters being fully formed and believable, it had me rooting for the best outcome for them all.
Also I loved that it is set in Wales, with such familiar and comforting use of the Welsh language and idioms, so reminiscent of my own upbringing.
My third book by Ruth Jones and it didn’t disappoint.
Told across 4 generations of strong Welsh women, Love Untold meets love in lots of different forms. From Grace, about to turn 90 but still living her best life although estranged from her daughter Alys, who hasn’t seen her daughter Elin in decades; whilst Elin has married and raised her teenage daughter Beca with the love and support of Grace behind her.
This book made me smile and sob. I was fully engaged with the stories told by all 4 women and their lives, which all seemed so simple on the outside but far more complicated when you peeled back the layers.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read and review.
What an absolutely gorgeous book. Ruth Jones is an amazing and captivating writer. It is so well written The characters are brilliantly written especially Alys. I loved this book & cried reading it. Do not miss out
An enjoyable read that involves you in the lives of three generations of a family. I like how the author headlines with the name of which character is going to feature in the next part of the story. Many aspects of life affecting the different generations are cleverly covered.
This is a heart-warming story about the relationships between four different generations of women within the same family with a handful of other supporting characters thrown in to good effect too. Family secrets, grief, loss, sexuality and forgiveness are key themes addressed throughout the book in a very entertaining way.
Whilst this is an easy read it makes you think on many levels and has the ability to make you both laugh and cry in equal measure.
I have read and enjoyed Ruth Jones' previous two books and this one is her best yet in my opinion.
I am grateful to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
