A deeply moving story, about 4 generations of a family.
Based on Wales, Grace is due to turn 90 and would love to make amends with her estranged daughter Alys.
The book uncovers Grace’s life from a young age to becoming a mother, grand-mother and great grand mother but all so focuses on each day of the 4 generations issues.
The book is funny and heart warming and I can guarantee you’ll shed a tear.
You will no be disappointed.
I enjoyed reading this and the development of the story through the book. However some of the characters felt too unrealistic and the Welsh aspects of the book too forced and there to fulfil the expectations of a Ruth Jones book rather than because they bought credit and depth to the story.
Another page turner from Ruth Jones between 4 generations of family it is both funny and sad at times. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me an advance copy, I will definitely be recommending.
This book explores family dynamics and the dramas that many families face. I really enjoyed the way it explored the unconditional love within families. I also loved the unexpected love story.
I have enjoyed Ruth Jones's previous novels, this one I absolutely loved.
Told by the POV from 3 generations, what a rollercoaster of a story, both heartbreaking and heartwarming.
I really enjoy authors writing style and am fast becoming a hugh fan and i look forward to reading more from Ruth.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
We meet Grace in this story. Grace lives in Wales, is estranged from her daughter, Alys, but is close to Alys’s daughter Elin and her granddaughter, Beca. Grace hasn’t seen Alys for 30 years, and raised Elin as her own. But Grace is about to turn 90 and has decided the time is right to try and reconnect with Alys, without telling anyone. Secrets, deep seated anger, and emotion is all exposed in this heart warming story.
Grace was a great character, full of wit, and remarkably switched on for her age, and she doesn’t take any rubbish from anyone. The other characters were also well written, and were all relatable in their own way. This story was brilliant, and the descriptions used of the setting in Wales were excellent, and really made you feel like you were there. The chapters weren’t too long, which is always a bonus, and the story unwound perfectly, and then wound back up perfectly.
Ruth Jones never fails to write something excellent, with an underlying message throughout. This story taught me that life really is too short to not be yourself, and make yourself happy as well as doing what you can to help others. An excellent read that I’d highly recommend.
I have read all of Ruth's books and loved each one, this was no exception. It follows the lives of four generations of fiesty women from the same family. It looks back at past events and doesn't shy away from the failings of humans including alcoholism and crap parenting.
I liked all of the women despite some of their traits being annoying, they all have redeeming features, even Alys as it happens!
The men were secondary to the story but John was an understated important cog in the wheel.
I may not be able to say it's my favourite of her books but that's only because I can't choose between them. I have really enjoyed them all, in part because they are so different but acutely inciteful.
Huge Ruth Jones fan here, so was very excited to get my hands on the upcoming release, Love Untold. The book has everything that I loved about her others, the characters, the connections and the settings. It was just so vivid and I adored it.
A lovely read. Heartwarming and heartbreaking. A story of four generations of women - a Great Grandmother, an absent mum, her daughter and granddaughter, I enjoyed this emotional read.
Ruth’s writing is as warm as she seems on tv and this book has all the love and warmth and a bit of sadness that you find on her tv shows. Not to be missed.
This book is a beautiful read about the trials and tribulations of family life and a woman desperate to be reunited with her daughter after so many years apart but not wanting to hurt and disappoint her grand daughter. This book is full of love and heartbreak and the ending really did leave me a bit broken at the end.
Ruth Jones has written a really good tale again.
Mixing pathos and humour it covers four generations of women and their useful or otherwise spouses.
Grace is almost 90, her granddaughter is am uptight menopausal headteacher whilst her great granddaughter has more in common with the octogenarian than her own mum. Then there's the lying ex-alcoholic who has ostracised herself from her family.
With such heavy, dark themes it's clever to make it funny and fun also.
The finale denouement is suitably surprisingly although the final act seems a bit pedestrian.
It really is enjoyable and one that I found I was keen to race through although, at the same time, trying not to end it too soon.
Wow. I absolutely loved 'Us Three' it was one of my favourite reads, so I could not wait to read this new book by Ruth Jones.
I was not disappointed! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters are so heart-warming and relatable, that I was rooting for them throughout the whole story.
The story revolves around the lives of 4 generations of women, all of who have their own battles and hardships. This story shows the love and relationship between them and the hurdles they need to overcome.
I would highly recommend this book, and already can't wait for a new one from this author!
Another brilliant book from Ruth Jones. Funny in parts yet moving and wonderfully ‘real’ I enjoyed every page.
This is a book that explores the relationships between mothers and daughters told through the women of the Meredith family.
Grama Grace is about to turn ninety. She is very much the head of the family and her home in Dylan's Quay is where all of the women find themselves returning to when they need a cwtch and some straight-talking.
Elin is her granddaughter. She wants to throw a surprise party for Grace but while she is organising that, she is worrying about her 16 year old daughter, Beca and when she discovers that her husband has been cheating on her, she feels that the party is the only thing that she has any real control over.
Alys is Grace's daughter and Elin's mother. Very much the black sheep of the family. She is estranged from all and seems to like it that way.
Every single character is written with love and warmth - even the troublesome ones.
I enjoyed this book immensely and am sure that it will be a huge success.
This is the third book by the wonderful Ruth Jones who seemingly can turn her hand to anything. This book follows the story of Grace and the three subsequent generations of her family, all women. There are lots of conflict and twists and turns as we, the readers, follow each of the family through their dramas. A great book, funny and well written.
The first thing you should know about this perfectly titled novel is that it’s extremely readable. A few paragraphs in and I had sunk right into story and struggled to put it down. Grace and the other women in her family are brilliantly written and whilst they are each completely different to eachother you get to know them all really well due to the multiple narrators in the book. The men are written in more of a blurry two dimensional way and I can totally see why but it’s a shame for one of them as he is a real hero who deserves his own happiness. It’s a cleverly written domestic drama - I didn’t guess one element of the story and when I looked back all the clues were there. I will certainly be there for the next book and any other stories Ruth Jones has up her sleeve - Llongyfarchiadau ar lyfr gwych arall!
Thank you to Ruth Jones, her publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to review an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the story of four generations of a family. Grace is nearly ninety but regularly swims in the sea. She has not seen her daughter Alys for many years, and in fact Alys' granddaughter thinks that she is dead.
This is just one of the secrets between the women in this family but can they survive if they know the truth?
The characters are people you want to get to know and you become invested in their lives. Heart-warming & full of love, but make sure you have a tissue to hand.
A very easy to book to read. The story moved at a good pace and the plot was easy to follow. Takeaways from the story are that everyone needs to be loved, family approval is a bonus and tolerance is a moral virtue.
This heartwarming book about four generations of women is exciting and I couldn't put it down! All four are completely different, yet the same. Very well written and a lush read!
Full of emotion you will just want to keep reading it!
This was my first Ruth Jones novel, and I'll now be rushing out to get her other books! A beautiful hug of a read, with a family and cast who felt completely real from the beginning. I loved the multi-generational perspectives in the novel and the growing understanding between the women in the family as the novel progressed. Such a warm, witty and poignant novel, I will be hugely recommending it to everyone I can!
