First things first, this is narrated beautifully. It was so much fun to listen to! Not a single bad thing to say about the narrator! Loved it!

Now onto the book itself... If you loved the vibes from Gallant, you'll likely love the vibes in this book too. There's a sort of dark layer of magic woven through the whole novel and it is just so gorgeously done. I loved all of the little details about where life and death met and how spirits in this world acted and reacted.

Signa feels both familiar and brand new to me. She has so many familiar and easy to love traits from other books I've read and adored (her determination and the way she views and talks about death and poisons) whilst remaining fresh and fun to read about.

And whilst we're talking about the MC... What a way to introduce her. This book begins with such an epic opening and I was immediately hooked by it. It was just so fantastically done and I loved how it showed so much with such little space in which to do it.

The best part about the beginning being so good is that this book manages to keep that level up throughout the rest of the novel. With ghosts, poisonings and betrayals, this book definitely kept me hooked all the way through! Even though I had guessed every twist (a common thing for me) I loved watching it unfold. It all fell into place so wonderfully.

And I am definitely eager to get my hands on the next one in the series!

This book has plot as well as the spooky mystery vibes so many people love. A beautiful setting and a well thought out and excellently described set of characters. The character group is kept small but I feel that adds to the story, making it feel even more spooky.

The audiobook is narrated incredibly well, bringing death to life in a way that makes you feel the shadows crawling over your skin. The speed of the book is slow to start but picks up about a quarter of the way in, with it really picking up pace from around 70% in.

The slow burn romance between the main character Signa and Death is beautiful. Gothic fairytale this book really is. The romance pulls you in and has you reading without wanting to put the book down.\

I really hope there is a sequel as I want more of this world.

I was lucky enough to receive an arc audio of Belladonna from netgalley and Hodder and Stoughton. I really enjoyed this book and the eery feeling that came of throughout the story telling. I was invested in Signa's story and was really hoping that some good luck would come her way. I loved Death's character in the book as well and him having a slightly different roll to play than usual.
I think the narrator did an excellent job in making the story come alive as well

I was caught from the start of the story, but I got a bit annoyed over it turned into a detective story. So yes it's a fantasy story with romance and a crime to solve.

But I did like the fantasy part, it made it abit unpredictable, and I am allso intrigued to dive into the 2end book when it comes out.

And I listened to the audio book on speed 2.0, and the narrator did er superb job in my opnion.

In the end I was very entertained and would recoment this book, especially for those that loves mystery, fantasy and romance.

Therefor my rating

I enjoyed this, especially the Signa and Death dynamic, which is what drew me to this story in the first place. The mystery aspect I found quite predictable, though I don't consider that to be necessarily a bad thing. The ending might have me intrigued enough to pick up the sequel. However, without the final twist it could have been a solid standalone, which I would have preferred.

A brilliant concept, the idea of Death as a romantic interest, looking out for the main character throughout, guiding and shaping her experiences.
The narrator was fantastic, really good variations between character voices so it was easy to follow.
The ending left things a little stilted, clearly setting up the next book in the series but the cliffhanger was a bit meh.
Overall enjoyable, easy listen.

This was quite pleasant from start to finish. It kept me engaged and invested throughout the story but I really didn't like the ending.

A gothic-infused romantic mystery. It was a first for me to pick up something in this genre and boy am I glad I did!

A slow-burn romance between the female main character and Death. This screamed Penny Dreadful at me from the first page and I was sold. In the Victorian era, we follow Signa Fallow, a girl who can't die. Not that she didn't try to... As a result, she meets death quite a lot as those around her die, and only she can see him. The ghostly and atmospheric world enveloped me, the chemistry between Signa and her love interest was decadent…

Sigma herself is a delightful character. She's stubborn but protective, desperate to find the place she belongs after being passed from guardian to guardian her entire life. She arrives with her remaining family at Thorn Grove, a grand estate with a dark past and a mystery she is determined to solve.

I am really, really excited for the sequel, Foxglove. It’s not the worst of cliffhangers, but rather, sets the stage nicely for the next adventure. I’m so excited to return to this world and see more of these characters.
