Another satisfying read from Cousens. If you like light and witty then you’ll adore her work. 5 stars from me.
3.5? 3?
Before I Do was a smart twist on the love-triangle trope and I enjoyed reading it. The book tells the story of Audrey, who is about to marry the love of her life, Josh, when everything starts going wrong: from bats falling from the ceiling of her wedding venue to the reverend passing out at her wedding to a man from her past who she'd once thought was her soulmate reappearing as a wedding guest. Audrey starts to reconsider whether or not she's making the right decision by marrying Josh; after all, all of these events can't just be coincidence, can they?
I enjoyed how the story was written, with the reader constantly being taken to the past and then back to present day. This type of story-telling can get confusing, but I thought this was very well done here. However, I did think the main characters were missing some development - it became quite obvious to me how the story was going to go just from how much time was spent on each character! I also do think that while I did enjoy this, it is not as memorable as other books I've read this year. Nevertheless, this is a solid romance book and I'm sure it'll be a hit with many!
4.5/5
When Audrey’s whirlwind, what-if romance from the past shows up to her wedding to the man she now considers the one, she questions whether it’s a sign from the universe. Should she go through with it?
I did not want to put this book down! I was so engrossed in both of Audrey’s love stories and was equally torn between who she should choose, just as she was. I fell in love with both Fred and Josh just as Audrey did, with the flashbacks providing perfect context for Audrey’s doubts and showing the reader exactly how Audrey fell for both of her love interests. With comedic relief provided by all the wedding day disasters whilst also keeping the tension high, I was so engrossed in this book. I definitely recommend!!!
Great fun loving book.
Lovely sit by the pool easy read, fun book to keep you guessing.
I enjoy this book and its was easy didn't take up much time book.
This was a simple, fun, easy and quick read. The perfect type of book for your holiday, beach, pool kind of read. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
This is the first book I have read by Sophie Cousens, and I absolutely loved it! I’m not a fan of modern chiclet really, but this storyline appealed to me, and I’m really glad that I was chosen to read the book.
It was really funny, and sad in places as well.
I will definitely be looking to read more from this author.
Another enjoyable book by Sophie Cousens., just not as good as the previous two. Before I Do is a laugh out loud read with some serious cringe worthy moments. I think Granny Parker and Hillary were my favourite characters, I'd actually love for Hillary to have his own story. Audrey was very hit and miss for me at times, I felt at times she treated Josh quite badly, but overall by the end of the book I did like her. She experienced some growth throughout the book and the epilogue really made me smile. If you enjoy chick lits featuring a wedding from hell then this is the read for you. As with Sophie's previous reads, I could definitely see this being a movie.
A great story full of laughter and tears, highs and lows. Nice and easy to read but hard to put down.
Brilliant read. Fantastic storyline
Easy to read and relatable characters
A real page turner will be keeping an eye out for more from this author
I had mixed feelings about this one. I loved the writing style, the author always has a way of drawing you in which is why I love her books. The characters here were not my favourite though. I struggled a little to relate to Audrey and there she was not particularly likeable in parts. I did not love her and Fred despite the supposed kismet of it all (their whole thing felt insta lovey which Is a trope I hate). I did really like Audrey and Josh together though which I supposed saved it for me. They felt a lot more real and the love that grew there felt genuine. Not a bad read but not my favourite from this author. (2.75 ⭐️ rounded up)
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
Audrey is getting married to Josh, a nice, perfect guy who treats her right. She normally dated the musicians or poets or those that weren’t looking for anything serious.
The book is narrated in different timelines, going from the present to individual scenes from the past, when she met Guy and spent one day together but, when they were to meet the next day, he didn’t show up.
She thought that Josh is her true love, that is until HE turns up before she’s due to get wed and the doubts she had surface again.
So, does she marry Josh?
The story had sad, difficult moments, showing how it’s working together to overcome these times in your life.
I finished this book last night and have got to say I absolutely loved it!! When Audrey finds a mysterious set of photos in a photo booth she leaves her own response and finds who she thinks is the man of her dreams.
Fast forward and she’s getting married but not to Fred (the face in the photos). However when Fred is a unexpected guest at her wedding she begins to question her future with Josh, especially after an unfortunate sequence of mishaps!
This book was beautifully written, funny, charming and thoroughly enjoyable. I started and finished it within 2 nights and was happy with the ending!
Thanks for allowing me to read this advanced copy!!
An entertaining, funny, and compelling story that I enjoyed.
It's well plotted and well written, I liked the characters and the style of writing.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Audrey is preparing to marry Josh, the love of her life but the day before the wedding Fred turns up as date to her future sister in law. Fred whom Audrey spent an amazing day with years before and hasn’t seen since as he never turned up to meet her the next day. What happened?
. Is this a sign? So many what ifs?
This is a light read but I found there to be a bit of a lull in parts. The will they, won’t they plot keeps the story going and you don’t know what Audrey will decide.
An enjoyable read with a cast of interesting supporting characters especially Brian.

I was pleasantly surprised by this 'will they/won't they' story of Audrey and Josh (and Fred).
This genuinely kept me guessing as to who Audrey might end up with. Sometimes I was rooting for Fred, sometimes I was rooting for Josh. Personally I think Audrey is a bit of a weak main character, her flightyness was annoying at best and downright stupid at worst. Hillary and Clara as the best friends are brilliant - they provide much needed comic relief and sensibility. The relationship between Audrey and her mum Vivien was frustrating and not wholly believable to me. I would really like to have had more flashbacks to Audrey's relationship with her Dad as this felt like an important part of her story development.
This book has romance, silliness, superstitions, lots of questions about fate and destiny and far too much talk about liliac coloured wedding items. It's a light, funny read with a little bit of mystery thrown in. Well worth spending a few hours on!
With thanks to Hodder and Netgalley for the ARC
A really good read. A rom com that is funny and warmhearted with some interesting characters.,Audrey's journey told in different time frames keeps you guessing right to the end and I wasn't disappointed. I really enjoyed it
A very light read about weddings, relationships and what can go wrong. Luckily there is more than a touch of humour in the book which, otherwise, I found was getting a bit too muchl on the wedding theme. I didn't actually like Audrey, the main character, who seemed so self centred and totally unreal as did her mother. Hillary, however, was a complete delight. Probably more a 3.5 from my perspective but I know my younger daughter would love it. Good holiday read to not take too seriously.
The book was subpar and not at all what I hoped. I wanted to DNF it multiple times but read it till the end only because it was a Sophie Cousens novel(I truly loved her This Time Next Year book) and I like her seamless writing.
The plot shuffled between past and present timelines which felt stretched many a time. Fred and Josh looked like they were written only on two ends of spectrum: one wholly black and one wholly white at the story's whim, no grey area in their personality.
The plus points of the book were style of writing and the dialogues. Also, there was marvelous friendship between Clara and Audery and Audrey and Hillary. The mother-daughter relation between Vivien and Audrey also felt pragmatic.
Overall, the book was an average read. Thank you NetGalley for sending me the review copy!
A story of what if`s.
For me the story was too long and jumping from past to present too often, also had a lot of unnecessary details in it.
Had loads of characters but only one I liked was Clara, Audrey was very annoying and just too many things went wrong to be believable.
Just not for me.

Loved the story - going back a few years and hours to then being in the now, for me this did take the story a while to get used to but overall I enjoyed it.
I read this story within yet another less than 24hours which shows that it's a quick read and will keep you hooked.
I do have to say that Audrey did make me slightly angry for what she was doing.
