Audrey is marrying Josh, her reliable and lovable boyfriend. However, at the wedding rehearsal dinner, Josh's sister arrives with Fred, a man Audrey really fell for two years before. This sets off a real 'will she, won't she?' story. Is fate intervening to warn her of an impending mistake?
This was an entertaining read with great characters. Whilst it is definitely a romance, there is a rewarding side story in Audrey's relationship with her unreliable and wayward mother. This is a well written and often funny read.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Hodder and Stoughton for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Audrey is about to marry Josh but after someone she spent one day special day with years before turns up as a guest at the wedding rehearsal she starts to panic wondering if Josh is 'the one'
The book does go from past to present several times as we follow Audrey's story
A definite will they won't they story
I really didn't think that this book could be better than Sophie's first, but it is. There is a slow burn to the start though so you need to have patience that it all will unfold as it should. Yes, I'm channelling Audrey and maybe Fred too!
I cannot imagine how any child could live with Vivien and her constant changes in life loves, and not become rather neurotic herself, and unable to believe that marriage is more than the grand guesture and heat. And short lived. Vivien clearly chose badly as did her husbands.
I loved Hillary and thought he was a great addition to the story.
Well told with great humour and insight.
This is such a great story. Loved the story and felt the charcters were really well developed! Highly recommend!
A really funny, sometimes sarcastic romance. There is something about Audrey that is so appealing and you want to be her friend and be immersed in her life. The ‘will they, won’t they’ really is edge of the seat stuff and I didn’t know what as happening till the end. A gorgeous backdrop for the jitters to set in and it is always nice to laugh out loud as you read!
It took me a while to get into "Before I do" but as the present and past collided I soon found I couldn't put the 'book' down. I really enjoyed the journey of Audrey finding herself, albeit it took a while, and discovery what she really wanted. The jumping between past and present was hard to begin with but soon you realised why the book had been written this way.
Before I Do is such a relatable must read!
Well written with likeable characters, this book is very entertaining and difficult to put down once you start reading. I would definitely recommend it.
This was a lovely read, I really enjoyed it and whizzed through it in a couple of lazy days….always a good sign I think! Great cast of characters, fabulous story and very well written.
This is only the second book I’ve read by Sophie Cousens but I really enjoyed it. It follows the story of Audrey who is about to marry her polar opposite, Josh. But as the big day approaches, Audrey is left wondering if Josh really is ‘The One’ especially when Josh’s sister turns up to the rehearsal dinner with Fred, Audrey’s ‘what if’ from six years earlier. This is a great storyline with some fabulous characters (Granny Parker) that entertained me from start to finish. Thank you to NetGalley, Hodder & Stoughton and the author for the chance to review.
I really enjoyed this book! I love a good wedding story and this one was full of drama, friendship and love. I loved Audrey and Josh and enjoyed seeing their relationship and how it developed over the years.
When it comes to the one that got away stories I almost always find myself rooting for the one that got away, but in this story I found myself rooting for Josh and not Fred, the one that got away.
I loved how this story was told in lots of different time lines of hours and minutes before the wedding and years in the past and also the future after the event of the wedding.
Overall I really enjoyed this book! Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a fun wedding read!
This is a real laugh out loud, will they wont they novel. Enjoyable read and well worth it. A 5 star book and well worth the read. 5 stars
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read Before I do. I found it to be a bit slow to get into, but as I couldn't be sure what the outcome would be, I just had to stick at it to find out and I am so glad I did. Interesting tale, cleverly written
A zippy spiral into the panic and questions a person can go through right before getting married, this is tightly written and engaging.
Thanks to NetGalley, Hodder & Stoughton and Sophie Cousens for the ARC of Before I Do.
First up its worth me saying that I loved Sophie's previous title Just Haven't Met You Yet - so much so, that I bought it as gifts for my kids teachers at the end of term,.
As such, I had high hopes for Before I Do and it absolutely didn't disappoint! Such easy reading, you very quickly become invested in the characters as the timeline flicks between the present day and the history that led us to this point.
Audrey is about to marry Josh - when at the wedding rehearsal in walks her sister in laws date Fred - who just happens to be 'photo booth guy' - a man with whom Audrey spent one forgettable day with many years before. Her sliding doors moment, Fred arriving at this moment, plus all the other signs that their wedding is doomed leaves Audrey questioning whether the stars are trying to tell her something.
This ending could've gone one of two ways, and I am so happy with the direction it took. Lots of laugh out loud moments again - with the balcony singing moment almost on a par with the coat rail scene in the previous book. Proper LOLs.
Another great book from Sophie and will certainly recommend.
Heart warming read that transports you to a fascinating world! 🌟
This novel is about love, second chances and what if’s. I am a firm believer of what happens in the past, stays there as your move on with life and learn from it.
This particular novel focuses on the main character and a special one-night she had with a man.
If a novel draws me in from the beginning that’s an excellent sign for me. This novel did that.
The characters are very well written, thought out and have their own personalities and background which brings you the reader, into their world. Without going into too much detail you can know a good bit about the characters.
As people, we always have those lingering passing thoughts of ‘what if?’ This novel shows the main character thinking about these things which I found to be the interesting element.
The dilemma of the characters are very authentic as well that it can easily happen in reality as well which I loved. Can a person that is the complete opposite of you be ‘The One’ or is it someone so completely similar?
Yes, of course the nice guy is nice, but is he missing something? That’s for you to find out in this read!

Sophie Cousen’s witty and uplifting new rom-com Before I Do, follows Audrey, who’s finally marrying the steady and dependable love of her life, Josh. They share a flat and a bank account, and it’s the only relationship Audrey’s ever had that feels like something she can put her trust in. But, as they day approaches Audrey begins to have doubts, and wonders if Josh really is ‘the one’.
So, when Josh’s sister arrives at their rehearsal dinner with Fred—Audrey’s what if? Guy, the man she met six years ago, the man she had one amazing day with then never saw again—Audrey can’t help but see it as a sign.
Surely, Fred’s reappearance in her life the night before her wording is a sign. And when everything that could go wrong with the wedding starts to go wrong, Audrey has to wonder: could fate be trying to stop her from making a huge mistake?
This was such a fun and utterly uplifting rom-com that I literally raced through, it was that good. The characters were full of depth and Audrey (our protagonist) was such an endearing and relatable character who really leapt off the page and into my heart. I simply ADORED her! She was a bit of an indecisive mess, but getting to explore her emotional journey (through flashbacks) really allowed us the delve into the heart of her hang ups and insecurities—and definitely helped to endear her to me.
It’s told through past flashbacks of her childhood, meeting Fred, and the start of her relationship with Josh leading all the way up to the wedding. So, if you’re not a fan of alternating timelines or frequent flashbacks then you’ll probably not enjoy this. However, the past tense scenes were exquisitely well timed, detailed and full of nuance and emotion that really ties the (incredibly moving) plot together.
I liked the development of all of Audrey’s various relationships, I especially loved Clara (Audrey’s best friend) and Hillary (Audrey’s unconventional nanny) who seems like he’s have a lot of fun, gossipy theatre stories. I also liked the detail in Audrey’s complex and sometime fraught relationship with her mother and how her mother’s romantic relationships have shaped Audrey’s views on marriage and love and brought another level of dimension to Audrey’s decisions.
Overall, a satisfyingly uplifting and multifaceted rom-com that’s full of humour and happiness that I didn’t want to end. If you love contemporary romance or rom-coms then I definitely recommend checking this out!
Also, a huge thank you to Hodder & Stoughton and Netgalley for the arc.
I loved this will they, won't they, storyline, and the time hopping that brings us to why our bride is in such a state.
You have one brilliant day with someone and then spend your single ife thinking about them, only for them to appear the night before your wedding, and with your bridegroom's sister, of all people.
I loved the astrology interludes, and the times she thought back to periods with her Dad..
I really didn't know where this story would go next.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the invite to read this eARC.
I thought this was an easy, uplifting read. It was written well, had some lovely heartwarming parts where I thought the author wrote of her characters feelings, thoughts and emotions so very eloquently. I started off not being over keen on the main character Audrey although she did grow on me towards the end and I really liked Josh and Clara. I struggled with the chapters 6/4 years before sometimes - mainly because they were not in time order - and therefore felt quite ‘clunky’ to me - if they’d been in order I think this book would have been a much easier read and maybe flowed better in my opinion. Saying that though, I did enjoy this read although it didn’t wow me. I think this book would be fab as a holiday read, or just for a bit of escapism and there are some wonderful laugh out loud moments in the story. Overall a feel good, easy heartwarming story with believable characters that had a lovely ending.

Audrey is marrying Josh but can't forget Fred who she only met for a day. No one has been able to let her forget him. Josh's sister brings a date with her to the dinner before the wedding and it turns out to be Fred. Audrey then starts to think is she making a mistake. The story takes you back and forward to when Fred and Audrey first met.
This was a good story , written. going backwards . You had a build up to a wedding and everything that could go wrong did. I loved the main characters mother and the star gazing . I know Kielder well. The ending was very clever. I really enjoyed it
